"No Place Like Rome" reminds me very much of the Eddie Cantor film "Roman Scandals", which came out three years earlier. Both feature an incredibly anachronistic and funny version of ancient Rome.
When the story begins, the President of Rome (president???) announces that in two months, every man older than 20 must be married...of they'll be thrown to the lions. The time comes for the lion- chucking...and young Flavius is still without a bride. However, he does meet a lovely and willing lady but there's a hitch...she is a slave.
The goofiness of this one is THE reason to watch this one. It reminds me a lot of a Three Stooges short...minus all the hitting! Well worth seeing because it was handled so well.
