In addition to hot chicks, it gets a point for a double-entendre in the title. There are multiple awkward adventures and the main adventurer is truly awkward. Something along the lines of a romantic comedy involving a socially awkward, insecure man, or possibly even worse, socially retarded.
The version I saw probably needs a cut or 2 to get an R or NC17 rating for theaters, which should give you the correct impression that it's also a very sexual film. There's plenty of sexual, adventurous fun to help balance the awkwardness and to avoid this becoming a gross-out comedy.
It's mainly over-the-top comedy with a lot of role reversals to add surprises (the direction of the film becomes as obvious as where men entering a sex club are going). The writer/director also throws in enough loops to make you wonder.
Besides capturing discomfort on film, add this to the list of 2012 films (For a Good Time Call, Giant Mechanical Man) using a breakup to launch a distinct story with some innovative techniques that don't require massive FX or superstar actors.

My Awkward Sexual Adventure is about relationship obsession and sexual abilities. People tend to obsess over their relationship and screw it up because of that. This movie is a good example of that.
The good. Jonas Chernick, the writer who also plays the main character, and Sean Garrity, the director, know a thing or two about strip clubs, strippers, and massage parlors, because they are well portrayed, if on the gritty side. The characters are solid and very interesting, if a bit simple. Lots of good laughs. Refreshing take on life. The end is well made and realistic. The end credit scene is absolute genius! I loved it, and I left the theater smiling at the montage.
The bad. The intro is very uncomfortable to watch because the guy is so totally incompetent, however, it gets better. The "month later" transition is awkward at best, but you get right over it. The start of the end credit comes abruptly right in the middle of the screen while there's voice over from the couple.
The ugly. There's still this idea that somebody has to get out of the sex trade to have a life.
The result. If you get over the uncomfortable part at the start, you'll have fun.

When you go see this film, you almost certainly know what you are going to get. However, my expectations of being low were conquered by an above average story and is decently uncliched. But my main problem with My Awkward Sexual Experience is the characters. They lean too far one way so it tries to tug at your emotional strings and this try-hard approach is too cringe worthy for a really pleasant viewing experience.
This film almost works perfectly, but the things that fail this film almost take it down. Characterisation and poor decisions by the filmmakers are almost devastating, but are saved by how original and different the storyline and plot are.

Have you ever been in love with your best friend? That's what we have here. Jordan loves Rachael because they have been best friends since childhood. Not a good reason to get married, but Jordan thinks it is only logical. After a breakup Jordan goes to the big city friend to get away and in the process is taken under the wing of a stripper who finds him drunk in an alley. A sexual awakening follows and the final decision on who is right for him.
I have watched a lot of romance movies and they are predictable plot-wise, just like westerns are predictable, but that doesn't mean they are bad because they offer nothing new. I found this movie a pleasant diversion for the time invested in watching. Sit back and enjoy and don't expect anything more than forgetting the present for now.

Two worlds bump into each other with resulting in a funny and understated comedy. A bit predictable perhaps but chances are you won't mind. You might just find yourself rooting for the characters here. As so many films nowadays contain anti-heroes and heroes that might as well be villains this film is like fresh air, despite the seediness of the setting. Book, cover, judgement: reserve.
As much as I wanted to find something, anything worthy of watching in My Awkward Sexual Adventure (2012) movie, I could not. Never the less I finished watching this movie even though I came very close to turning off several times - I had very hard time keeping my eyes open. It's a different version of 40 year old virgin-which I hated. I would not call this movie a comedy. There is absolutely nothing funny in this movie. The performance is very, very poor, the main main character is unbelievable, no idiots like that exist in real life; his lines are so boring, made up utter nonsense. All other characters are equally unrealistic and the performances are poor.

This film is about a man exploring his wild side with a stripper, after his girlfriend dumped him for being to mild.
Despite its title, "My Awkward Sexual Adventure" is more a romantic comedy than a raunchy comedy. It shows how a socially inept man trying to learn his skills to charm the ladies, with hilarious effects along the way. The girlfriend and the stripper have their personalities portrayed well, making a decision between the two is not difficult! The plot is explicit, with lots of kinky elements to help Jordan explore the wild side. The explicit sexual references are handled quite well, as they are presented at the right time; and do not come across as too contrived, in your face or gross. "My Awkward Sexual Adventure" is fun to watch.

Short and sweet review.
I don't get how people think this is a beautiful film, it's stupid and generic as all hell. The characters have been seen before, and done much better as well. The film is just played for laughs, nothing is even remotely realistic. Mostly with Jordan's character, and the BS love story with the stripper. Why would any want to be with a stripper? who knows. The Rachel character was the biggest b**ch any one could create. She dumps Jordan because of unexciting sex, even though that shouldn't even matter in a relationship. She dumps him, then proceeds to do it with ten different people, while she gets jealous of Jordan being with the stripper. They even try to make us feel sorry for her at one point, even though she is downright evil. There were a couple funny moments, but the film was unpleasant for the most part. It's just a mediocre attempt of Canada's version of a Judd Apatow film. 90 percent of the women in this film are portrayed as slutty.
It is pretty mediocre and generic, to the point where it is horrible.

I found this on Netflix looking for some light watch, I didn't expect much and still was disappointed. What I disliked the most about it was the main character. He should be the guy we root for right? But really he is just unlikable. Based on what he says about his relationship with the Rachel character he is that awkward self proclaimed 'nice guy' who won't take a hint and move on. And the movie really just confirmed for me that a guy like that actally is unlikable and uncomfortable to hang out with instead of misunderstood. I'd like it more if he was a nerd/geek who doesn't have social or relationship experience but really is sweet and maybe funny. Also the whole plot is predictable and the "helping with accounting" bit was just... I mean who wants to be reminded about taxes and bank loans while watching a sex comedy?

...and - more puzzlingly - who read the script and said 'Yeah, that's a good story"?! This film is too sophomoric for any adult to enjoy, and not quite titillating enough for what I think must've been its target audience, junior high kids. As Jordan says to the stripper about her finances, "It's a cluster***k"!
Directed by Sean Garrity, this Canadian film made its Each Coast Premiere on the Gen-Y night party as part of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival at Atlantic Station. This tale is about Jordan (Jonas Chernick) who has hit a road block in his love life. His girl friend notes that he is a bad lover and needs some time away. These love birds were planning a getaway trip and Jordan ventures on his own to gain insight of his best friend Dandak (Vik Sahay) who is a bit of a player in his own right. Through a series of misfortunes, Jordan befriends a stripper who promises to tutor Jordan into the mysterious ways of love. Some scenes are hilariously funny while others show case the vulnerabilities in seeking that one special person. Saw this as part of the Atlanta Jewish Film festival
I read the reviews and thought I'll have a go at this one. The jokes were poorly written and i had zero laughs in the whole movie. Story felt poorly written and boring.
In the first scene of "My Awkward Sexual Adventure" the Jordan (Jonas Chernick) is making love to his girlfriend Rachel (Sarah Manninen) in such an impassioned and mechanical way that she falls asleep (who wouldn't). The obvious break-up follows; she needs more passion and different sexual experiences.
As sad as it seems; these five opening minutes of the movie are the smartest, funny moments I saw in a movie this side of the Atlantic. There are no stupid or dumb or scatological jokes involved; simple a few utterly realistic but absurd moments and dialogs.
Jordan is not a dumb or clumsy person (well it has a few moments). He is an accountant with all the insecurities, limitations, fears and lack of commitment of a person living by the numbers. He needs Rachel to be with him; sex is not that important.
He has to go, on his planned vacation to Toronto, alone (the scene at the airport is another masterpiece) to visit his pal Dandak (Vik Sahay always funny) who offers to be his sexual mentor against Jordan will.
After a few comical situations; Jordan ends in an strip club trying to get a sexy photo with a beautiful girl to make Rachel (who is having a very sexual and orgiastic vacation) jealous. By Karma, meets Julia (Emily Hampshire) a stripper, sweet but very disorganized; totally against checking even her bills; basically his opposite.
He soon realizes that without loosing up; his future with Rachel is dead; he ask Julia for a crash course on freedom, taboos and sex. What follows are the different chapters of Jordan education process.
It is pretty obvious how things will end; but every chapter that follows is staged with intelligence and good taste; but do not even think the movie is tame; it just has good taste. There is plenty of nudity male and female but never out of context. In fact, one of the funniest scenes in the movie it is likely to be too much for MPAA but it will be a real sin to cut.
Acting is superb; Jonas Chernick (also producer and writer) is a seriously funny person; he improves after his experiences but is still the same person a little more confident. Sarah Manninen handles the bitch girlfriend character with class. She just an insecure person that is never sure what she really wants. Emily Hampshire as the stripper, is able to be tender but strong; enough to fall in love with her.
I hope this movie gets distribution in USA and UNCUT. It is really a surprise that a not so original story could be handled with such an intelligent way.

This movie is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It presents itself as the stereotypical commercial comedy. All the characters are easily understandable stereotypes. It's main storyline is basically a total cliché.
So why is it different? It breaks every one of the cliché's it uses. It tells us the story of what happens when our stereotypes become real, actually live their lives. And its easiness about sex is refreshing too, it's not a pornographic movie at all. Sex is just an aspect of it. And yet, even though of the controversial content, if you don't think about it: it's just another boring commercial romance comedy.
(So: controversial perfectly hidden in a cliché feelgood. Remarkable really.) (Did I mention it's excellently produced. Seriously. Excellent production value!) (I wonder if I'd still think this positively about it if I watched it a second time. I guess some parts were pretty weak. But I practically wonder if it's intentional. Nice!)

After noticing how underrated this movie was I felt compelled to write my second review, here at IMDb. This is a great movie! One of the top 5 best movies of 2012. The writer, director and cast delivered a unique fine piece of art. You will like it. Your girlfriend will love it. The harmony and balance between the characters are great. Emily Hampshire and Vik Sahay will get your attention! Jonas and Sarah were awesome as well. Even "Naked Tom" will make you think. Intelligent, funny and sometimes politically incorrect; all you could ever wanted to see in a comedy. If you were looking for a great Saturday night movie you definitely found one!

Having said that, whilst it is not up to the same comedic level of Night Shift, it is very watchable and you get some great cunnilingus tips!
It does pile on a few in-vogue and improbable cliches, like the stripper is surprise surprise in the wrong profession (cue to reform and get out of the game). She is an amazing cook with a very specific fetish on Australian produce (understandable as it is good), who if she could only get a commercial kitchen would become a successful commercial chef. Like cooking for 2 or 200... eh! All the same.
In the end though I enjoyed it, would even watch it again, and this time take sex tip notes. :)

The only awkward part of this film is the title... all the rest is pure rom-com surprise gold. The story is nothing that unique, but still very well written and executed. What is tops is the cast, starting with the leads (and all the rest of the way through) Jonas Chernick and Emily Hampshire.. bit.ly/15IZN6Q .. not big stars by any remote movie-land standards, but here they more than hold their own. They are near flawless, and by the end you cannot see anyone else being as exceptional in their roles. She is adorable in this movie, and quite an actor. Go on twitter, look at a couple of her video interviews posted. Compare the real-life person to the one on screen in this film.. it's one impressive performance! Should you enjoy the genre, this is by far one of the better romantic comedies of the year. Be sure and watch the ending credits with 'captions on' to get all the dialogue. And good films have good music.. this closing track wraps up a very engaging film experience... bit.ly/U3EkRB
Reading the other reviews I see a lot of complaints about the story line and formulaic script. I, like many others, enjoyed the film because of it's honesty in attempting to portray the standard story of: Boy & Girl have problems, break up, go on a journey, attempt to get back together, and finally have an epiphany that they don't really "belong" together, and two of them live happily ever after. This film does that story well and what's even more surprising is that it's Canadian! I find most Canadian written stories to be very bland, tedious and downright boring, so you can imagine my surprise when I watched this film. I'm normally not a romantic comedy type of person, but this film is good enough that I will purchase a copy and it well worth watching more than once.
The characters are well fleshed out and portrayed exceptionally well (IMHO): you both love and want to slap Rachael, Jonas' portrayal of the boring unconfident "loser" boyfriend is wonderfully correct (coming from one of those types of people myself; the only other actor I know of that can properly play that level of awkwardness is Jay Baruchel in "She's out of my league" and I was less embarrassed for Jonas than I was for Jay in the truly awkward scenes), Emily's "Julia" character is exceptionally well done and you really feel for her as the film progresses. (It doesn't hurt that both Emily and Sarah are ravishing).
I would consider this a dirtier version of Pretty Woman and the acting is (IMHO) equal to Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The American Pie twist is hilarious (and strangely instructional :D) and when coupled with the final resolution makes the film well worth watching. Yes, there are some awkward points in the script (Naked Tom ... but it actually helps the plot progress), but I find that in all of the Romantic Comedy genre of films... it's almost a requirement.
In closing, give it a chance; if you're not into romantic comedies, or are a little prudish about nudity and a bit of language... go watch Sandra Bullock's work. If you are interested in an honest portrayal of real people, you won't be disappointed.
