Lonely Slavka's life takes a turn for the better when his widowed mother moves the two of them to a city by the sea. Here he develops real friendships and is better able to face life's challenges.

Fourth grader Slava Semibratov lives in a small town with his mother and stepfather. Life seems gray and dull to him: classmates bully him, quarrels constantly occur in the family. The boy's only friend is the rag hare Artyomka, given to him by his father before he was born. Slava's father, Valeriy, served in a peacekeeping detachment in Kosovo and died saving civilians.—Bazza the Beast
