Kesha is taking her foot off the brakes and going full-speed ahead on her new video for “Joyride.”
Directed by Dimitri Basil, Cooper Roussel, and Laura Gorun, the video sees Kesha racing through the desert in a hot red convertible while being chased by a helicopter, gun-toting assassins, and a shirtless dude hell-bent on catching up to the pop diva.
The video ends on an inconclusive note, while a press release teases that the action-packed video sets the stage for Kesha’s next track, “Delusional,” out Nov. 29, and “an even...

Despite acting since she was a child, leading one of Disney Channel’s top sitcoms, Wizards of Waverly Place, starring in A24 cult classic Spring Breakers, and landing Golden Globe and Emmy nods for her lead role in smash hit series Only Murders in the Buildings, Selena Gomez still has trouble convincing casting directors to give her a shot.

Selena Gomez knows she isn’t the acting powerhouse that she once was. A star who was once at the pinnacle in the industry knows that her stocks have dwindled. But none of that can change the fact that she still is Selena Gomez.
Her name is still enough to turn heads in Hollywood. After all, everything that she has done for more than a decade can’t go away in a flash. But much to everyone’s surprise, her reputation has potentially cost her a few roles. Until she found the most ingenious technique to combat the situation.
Selena Gomez wants to do more movies and series in her career Selena Gomez has always loved being associated with movies and shows|| Netflix
Life has not been easy for Selena Gomez. Though the 32-year-old has quite the filmography to her name, that doesn’t do justice to the reputation she once enjoyed.

Ask Selena Gomez what she gets out of acting that music has not historically afforded her, and she replies in no uncertain terms: “Sanity.”
It’s an exceedingly honest answer, which is what you come to expect after spending any amount of time in Gomez’s company. The Only Murders in the Building producer and star has no patience for anything less than the unvarnished truth, messy as it often is. “She’s herself, always, and I think that’s part of why her fans love her so much,” says her Wizards of Waverly Place co-star David Henrie, who has routinely watched her open up on personal subjects, including her battle with lupus, struggles with depression and diagnosis of bipolar disorder. “They go, ‘Oh, I see myself in that.’ “
But for the foreseeable future, Gomez would rather get lost in someone else’s story, something that music has never allowed her to do.

On what she wishes she knew before getting into show business:
“I have no regrets and I have a fantastic family and there were rules laid down by my parents and I’m appreciative of that. However, I don’t think I would’ve done it very young if I was thinking of myself now. There were a lot of things that I felt stunted by. Then adding a lot of pressure from a lot of people didn’t help me develop a sense of self in my twenties. It was a very difficult time.

Harmony Korine met photographer Larry Clark while he was still a teenage skater bumming about Greenwich Village in New York. Clark and Korine began talking, and Clark revealed that he wanted a screenplay, written with an authentic point of view, all about modern, largely unsupervised teens and the way they wrestle with the AIDS crisis. Korine was happy to participate, and wrote the screenplay for the highly controversial "Kids," released in 1995. "Kids" was dark and edgy at the time, as it was incredibly frank about the sex lives of high school students. Even today, opinions on the film are mixed.
Korine, however, instantly became a new Enfant Terrible in the indie cinema world, and made his directorial debut in 1997 with "Gummo," a stylized poverty drama about a random assortment of oversexed and undereducated Ohioans recovering from a recent tornado. He followed that film with "julien donkey-boy" in 1999, which he made...

James Franco is tucked away in the corner of a five-star hotel lobby on Rome’s Via Veneto, sipping an Americano coffee. Wearing a chocolate brown hoodie he proudly says he co-designed, the actor and filmmaker looks relaxed and flashes his signature smile.
He’s in the Eternal City for the Rome Film Festival launch of Italian director Claudio Giovannesi’s “Hey Joe.” In the gritty drama, Franco plays Dean, an alcoholic American WWII vet who winds up back in Naples in the early ’70s in search of a son he fathered there before absconding to New Jersey.
The film is his first to surface on the fest circuit since his career went on hiatus following a now-settled 2019 lawsuit alleging that he sexually exploited young women who took his acting class. As he sips his coffee, Franco and I agree that his character is looking for redemption. Could the same be said of Franco?...

Gummo, spine #1238, will release in the Criterion Collection on October 22, 2024.
Outside of Gummo and Spring Breakers I’ve not seen any of Harmony Korine’s filmography. Based on those two films I’d come to the conclusion that his vision and style of filmmaking didn’t align with the types of films I enjoy. Despite my negative first reaction to Gummo, which I watched in 2004 at the age of seventeen, I’ve never forgotten the movie and what a strange viewing experience it was. Now that I’m in my thirties and with the Criterion Collection releasing a brand new 4K transfer, it seemed like the perfect time to revisit it and see if my feelings had changed.

Even before the release of Brat in June, a truck displaying “Kesha” on top of a very specific green background seemed to tease that the pop star would feature on the new Charli release. Once upon a time, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were Hollywood royalty as a dynamic power couple. They were constantly making headlines and their young fans were obsessed. However, all of that changed when they officially called it quits in 2018. Now that one of Justin‘s former mentors, Diddy, has been arrested for a slew of inappropriate charges, folks are doing deep dives into Justin‘s mentorship relationship with Diddy back in the day. Here’s what’s been discovered about Selena‘s perception of it all.

Los Angeles-based Great Escape has kicked off sales talks in Toronto on heist thriller Stranglehold starring Ashley Benson from Spring Breakers and Jake Lacy from The White Lotus alongside Justin Long, and Ron Perlman.
Clark Duke directs the feature, which shot this summer and is in the vein of Dog Day Afternoon, Die Hard and the Coen Brothers oeuvre.

Not every child actor story turns out to be a tragedy. The Disney Channel child star to super rich adult pipeline is real, and Selena Gomez is the latest star to take it to new heights, according to a fresh report from Bloomberg. The "Only Murders in the Building" star is officially a billionaire, with a net worth of $1.3 billion dollars, but most of that money didn't come from her acting and musical career.
According to the outlet, Gomez has made her millions via a combination of acting, singing, brand partnerships, a mental health startup, and -- most importantly -- a mega-successful makeup line called Rare Beauty Brands. So, what does reportedly being richer than Zendaya or Miley Cyrus mean for the actor who first got her start on Disney's fantasy family comedy show "Wizards of Waverly Place"? Well, she can basically do whatever she wants in Hollywood.

A prominent director of indie movies sees streamers like Kai Cenat and iShowSpeed as the auteur filmmakers of their generation. In an interview with Indiewire, Harmony Korine dubbed Kai and Speed as a few of the “talented and creative minds” who are hosting innovative streams instead of taking traditional Hollywood career paths.
Korine, a director best known for edgy films like Kids and Spring Breakers, discussed the streaming landscape while promoting his new feature Baby Invasion. 30 years into his career, Korine believes Hollywood is at a crossroads, with many decision-makers ignoring the abundance of talent that’s bubbling up on the internet.
“What’s happening in Hollywood — and you’re starting to see Hollywood, I think, crumble creatively — is that they’re losing a lot of the most talented and creative minds to gaming and to streamers,” Korine told Indiewire. “Like IShowSpeed is a movie, Kai Cenat is a movie.

If one had to guess which filmmaker a film journalist could catch themselves conducting an interview with at two in the morning, at a table inside a hotel bar overlooking the Venice canal, Harmony Korine would probably be the most likely choice.
Coming off the world premiere of his new project “Baby Invasion” at the Venice Film Festival, the innovative, enfant terrible filmmaker is still struck by the heat inside the Sala Grande (“it was like a sauna”), but he’s also been processing the joy it felt to receive one of those signature applauses that lasts so long, security had to shut it down — especially for a film like this.
“I never seen anything like that in a place like that,” said Korine, back at the festival one year after premiering “Aggro Dr1ft” there, the first film produced under his new Edglrd banner. An 80-minute film inspired by first-person shooter games,...

On Sunday, for the first time since the Telluride Film Festival’s North American premiere of Jacques Audiard’s one-of-a-kind musical Emilia Pérez on Friday, the three principal stars of the top-tier Oscar contender — Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez — sat down for an extensive group interview about their lives, their careers and the film for which they and costar Adriana Paz were jointly awarded the Cannes Film Festival’s best actress prize in May.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the ladies reflected on the special bond that they formed while co-creating Audiard’s film, which revolves around a frustrated lawyer and a cartel leader who recruits her to help carry out a covert operation without the cartel leader’s spouse finding out.
They also discussed — candidly and, at times, emotionally — the different hurdles they each faced en route to Emilia Pérez; the most daunting aspects of playing...

Technically, Day Four at the Venice Film Festival started at midnight for me, walking out of the after party for “Babygirl” still abuzz, trying and failing to slyly make it onto the water taxi headed to star Harris Dickinson’s after after party under the noses of A24 employees. The preceding event was one of the few gatherings happening during the festival to invite over some press to rub elbows with lead Nicole Kidman, director Halina Reijn, and company, as well as director Christos Nikou (“Fingernails”) and actress Taylor Russell (“Bones and All”) who are each serving on a different jury at La Biennale this year.
While that all made for an exciting start, the day’s offerings made for a more lowkey Saturday, with earlier screenings of films like “Battleground” and “And Their Children After Them,” both competition titles, only drawing moderate buzz. Even the premiere of Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai’s “Why War,...

Harmony Korine is going to do whatever the hell he wants, and in the case of his disturbing and anti-audience movie “Baby Invasion,” he turns the trigger-junkie protagonist at the top of a video game into the eyes and ears of a motion picture. If that’s what you call this disquieting and sickeningly compelling new project, framed from the perspective of an assassin pillaging shiny happy McMansions in Florida, Korine’s haunting grounds of late from “Spring Breakers” to his disastrously boring “film” “Aggro Dr1ft” last year. Where that infrared twisted techno dance pivoted on desperate dancers and sex workers twerking into the void as a hired killer fired shots all around them, “Baby Invasion” has a clearer focus this time: It’s to make you, the viewer, feel bad, and often wanting to beg to the screen, “Please god let this end,” or perhaps more aptly, “end me.

Midnight screenings rarely come more fitting than “Baby Invasion,” Harmony Korine’s latest experimental, unconventional and video game-like assault on the senses, which had its world premiere on Saturday night in Venice to an 8.5-minute standing ovation.
The film served up a provocative array of unique visuals: We saw our heavily armed, baby-faced criminals torturing people, dancing to Burial’s thumping techno score, chopping up huge piles of coke and throwing up the middle finger while sitting on the toilet.
Whatever it is we witnessed, the crowd seemed to lap it up. Once the hour and 20 minute movie wrapped, cheers erupted from the audience as Korine danced to the beat that soundtracked the credits. And it didn’t stop there: fans erupted into a chant of “Harmony! Harmony! Harmony!” as the director waved his arms as if to say, “More! More! More!”

Iconoclastic auteur Harmony Korine delivers another tripped-out feat of movie gamer madness with Baby Invasion, which follows last year’s Aggro DR1FT down a similar rabbit hole (one that includes lots of digital rabbits this time) in which violence, mayhem, masks and McMansions come clashing together in the Florida sun.
Whereas DR1FT was a freewheeling assassin flick whose images were processed and reprocessed until they looked like drug-addled nightmares, Invasion applies a different aesthetic but a comparable narrative approach, breaking the barriers between cinema and video games until we no longer know if we’re watching one or the other. And just in case you didn’t get that, onscreen titles come up at some point saying: “This is not a movie. This is a game. This is real life. There is no real life.” All clear now?

‘Baby Invasion’ Review: Harmony Korine’s Latest Brain-Barf Synthesizes a Career’s Worth of Big Ideas
Early on in “A Clockwork Orange,” Alex and his fellow droogs break into a rich writer’s home and rape his wife, which would be wrong enough if he weren’t crooning “Singin’ in the Rain” in the process. Half a century later, the scene seems no less appalling, given the way Stanley Kubrick made such ultraviolence look like fun for the demented kids who were doing it. Could there be anything more nihilistic than that?
Middle-aged bad boy Harmony Korine certainly thinks so. The latest stunt from his taboo-razing Edglrd studio, “Baby Invasion” blurs the lines between real life and a gnarly video game, so much so that it’s hard to tell what we’re watching for most of the trippy project’s 79-minute running time.
First-person footage of Florida McMansions ransacked by screen-addicted sociopaths? Creepy face-replacement technology that turns armed vandals into demon-horned Gerber babies? AI-generated cameos from an elusive CG rabbit?...

Director Harmony Korine took a moment at the Venice Film Festival press conference for his latest film “Baby Invasion” to encourage Hollywood to start embracing the forms of entertainment that have taken over youth culture, like gaming and streaming.
“What’s happening in Hollywood — and you’re starting to see Hollywood, I think, crumble creatively — is that they’re losing a lot of the most talented and creative minds to gaming and to streamers. Like IShowSpeed is a movie, Kai Cenat is a movie,” said the “Spring Breakers” and “Aggro Dr1ft” filmmaker, shouting out two of the most popular personalities on YouTube and Twitch.
In making a point about how Hollywood power players are locked into convention to the point of scaring off young creative minds from attempting traditional filmmaking, Korine went on to say, “They go other places because movies are no longer the dominant art form. Harmony Korine doubled down on his thoughts about the current state of the film industry at a Venice press conference on Saturday, saying that “we’re starting to see Hollywood crumble creatively” because it’s “so locked in on convention.”
As he puffed on a cigar, causing smoke to invade the conference room, Korine — seated next to his designer Joao Rosa and a neon green-masked Gaspar Noé — waxed lyrical about how the industry is misusing its youth.
“Hollywood needs to encourage — they don’t need to, but they would be smart to — encourage the youth, the kids. Why we’re starting to see Hollywood crumble creatively is because they’re losing a lot of the most creative minds to gaming and to streaming,” he said. “They’re so locked in on convention and then all those kids who are so creative are now just going to find other pathways and...

Charli Xcx’s hit new album, Brat was released on June 7 and fans are eager to witness a live performance of songs from the singer’s now-iconic summer album. The tour will start on September 14 in Detroit and conclude in Seattle on October 23.
The album’s distinctive cover art (“brat” written in Arial font on a lime green background) has inspired the “brat” aesthetic, which has spread from slime green merchandise to marketing campaigns, and inspired a lifestyle trend among Millenials and Gen Z.
The high-energy dance-pop album touches on partying, Von Dutch and womanhood and has prompted TikTok dances, memes and fashion trends, and led to the new term “brat summer.”

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Fall in Love with Love (and New York City)
You never forget your first crush. Life and love grow so complicated as we get older, but those early butterflies, stolen glances, and fleeting interactions are so easily romanticized in the rearview, relics of a bygone innocence and who we used to be. No matter what follows, the first stirrings of a crush are full of promise and excitement — even if you feel a bit like you’re going to explode.

Selena Gomez is comparing her Cannes award-winning turn in “Emilia Pérez” to her subversive casting in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.”
The star, who recently shared the Best Actress award at Cannes 2024 as part of the ensemble cast of “Emilia Pérez,” told The Hollywood Reporter that both films “have a special place” in her heart.
Gomez had already been a hit teen star with Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” and films such as “Monte Carlo” and “Ramona and Beezus” before Korine cast her as a college student who robs a drive-thru to fund a vacation to Florida. Rachel Korine, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson co-starred as Gomez’s onscreen pals; Gucci Mane and James Franco rounded out the cast of the iconic 2013 film.

The festival runs from August 28th through September 7th. It will be the 81st year they’ve done it. They’ll be showing tons of movies from all over the world in different categories.
Some of the big movies competing for awards include Pedro Almodóvar’s new one called “The Room Next Door.” Luca Guadagnino, who did “Call Me By Your Name,” has a movie called “Queer” that sounds intriguing. Justin Timberlake‘s new song “Selfish” seems like it might be about Britney Spears. That raises a lot of interesting questions about how Timberlake understands his relationship with the “…Baby One More Time” singer two decades later. Regardless of how you interpret the song, Timberlake said it comes from a very personal album.
Justin Timberlake might be calling Britney Spears his ‘angel’ in a new song
In “Selfish,” Timberlake says he doesn’t want other men taking his place in the life of a woman he finds attractive. It sounds like he’s asking for someone back. Since Timberlake had a famous relationship with Spears, it’s hard not to interpret the song as a barely coded message to her. The track feels possessive with all the emphasis on keeping the woman away from other men.

Britney Spears wanted to save one of her songs from obscurity, and Madonna helped her do it. In her memoir, Spears elaborated on her collaboration with the Material Girl. She revealed what she thought of the song in question years later.
Britney Spears used Madonna to get her label to like 1 of her songs
In Spears’ 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears recalled the creation of her album In the Zone. The “… Baby One More Time” singer said her label wanted to release another song like the track “I’m a Slave 4 U” from her previous album as a single. They were uninterested in the track “Me Against the Music,” an R&b/hip-hop hybrid that was characteristic of much of her mid-2000s output. On the other hand, Spears loved it, and she came up with an idea to make it appealing to her label.
“‘Then what if we do a feature on it?...

Harmony Korine is making his animated debut with his long-gestating “The Trap,” though without its original stars and in a whole new medium. The filmmaker was first set to reunite with “Spring Breakers” stars James Franco and Gucci Mane back in 2016 for the feature, which was then set up at Annapurna as a live-action film.
Back then, Benicio del Toro, Al Pacino, and Jamie Foxx were also attached to star in the film. The feature floundered for years, and Korine is now resurrecting the project at his multimedia design collective Edglrd. Variety first reported the news. Korine’s “The Trap” will now be an animated adventure and Edglrd is in discussions with production partners in Japan.
The film is described “as ‘Oldboy’ set through a hip-hop filter, ‘The Trap’ imagines another sun-kissed gangster saga, following an ex-con newly released from prison and deadset on revenge once he learns that his...

A24, the Oscar-winning indie studio that has become an edgy brand name unto itself, is getting a big vote of confidence — and an influx of cash.
The studio said Wednesday it has closed on an investment round led by Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Capital. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Thrive invested $75 million into the indie studio based on a $3.25 billion pre-money valuation. A source close to A24 with knowledge of the investment notes that the company’s enterprise valuation now sits at $3.5 billion, suggesting this round of funding will net the company a roughly $250 million total investment.
As a part of the investment, Thrive founder Kushner will join the A24 board of directors.

Launched last year with the support of Chanel, the nascent festival invites both established and emerging talents to share an expansive vision of youth, hosting a competition dedicated to young adult stories overseen by a jury all under the age of 35.
“Across all sections, this festival shines the spotlight on younger generations and celebrates young characters on screen,” says programing director Lili Hinstin. “We wanted to look to the future through the prism of the next generation, and to interrogate the questions and contemporary issues important to them.”
To that end, this sophomore edition kicked off with the world premiere of “Night Call,” a Brussels-set thriller, taking place over the course of one heated night, foisting an unsuspecting locksmith into a criminal underworld...

Julia Fox is standing up against what she sees as a smearing of her creative vision on her feature screenwriting debut “Lipstick Palm.”
Fox exclusively told IndieWire that she is “not pleased” with issues that have arisen amongst the film’s producers. Fox penned the script with Sara Apple, and told Page Six in May 2023 that she was in pre-production on the dark comedy crime feature that was “‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ meets ‘Spring Breakers.'” Fox will act in a supporting role in the film, while the lead stars have yet to be announced.
“Right now we have our cast, we have a director, but we are having some issues,” Fox told IndieWire more than one year later. “We just have some producers that can’t get on the same page, which really sucks and I would speak on it more, but if it does end up going to court,...

Good news for all of the brats out there: Charli Xcx has already dropped a deluxe version of her new album Brat. Dubbed Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, the new tracklist boasts (as you might have guessed) three new tunes from the pop star.
The three new songs of Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not follow the 15 initial tracks of Brat and are titled “Hello goodbye,” “Guess,” and “Spring breakers.” Each picks right up where Brat left off, embodying Charli Xcx’s idiosyncratic approach to pop music. Notably, “Hello goodbye” sees the artist once again linking up with A. G. Cook, while “Guess” features writing credits from the likes of Dylan Brady (of 100 Gecs) and Harrison Patrick Smith (of The Dare). Stream them all below.
