Our host for tonight is Elizabeth Banks, aka not Donald Trump Thank God. In addition to not being a racist overgrown oompa loompa, Banks’s other credits include being the director, producer, and co-star of last summer’s Pitch Perfect 2, a key supporting actress in The Hunger Games franchise, a beloved guest star on shows from Scrubs to 30 Rock, and a generally very funny actress/director/producer. And now she can add first-time SNL host to the list! Cold Open: Cecily Strong delivers a heartfelt message on behalf of New York City to the people of Paris. This was a really classy move on SNL’s part, reminiscent of the warm way they handled their first episodes post-9/11. All in all a well-handled and somber start to the night. Monologue: Elizabeth Banks uses the skills she picked up from Pitch Perfect 2 to direct her own musical monologue performance of What a Feeling.

If a popular geek-based sitcom can claim that it all started with a big bang in its theme song, then Buffy The Vampire Slayer's third season finale can suggest otherwise. For alas, the original Sunnydale High school is on the critical list, rendered unrecognisable and burnt out in a bid to rid the world of the antics of Mayor Wilkins once and for all. It'll take a good three years to put this to rights – quite what the Sunnydale High teachers are supposed to do now is open to speculation. Mr Beech will probably end up retiring and sniping at youngsters on the back seat of the bus. Mr Miller, the cheery Hangman beardy chap may ask out Miss Murray on a date and end up flying off to the Bahamas in a whirlwind romance. Sunnydale High itself though will be out of bounds for a spell – except to curtain cut quasi-army refugees,...

I've been humming and hawwing about how to approach the next couple of episodes for the third series of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The issue that I sometimes encounter is that although some episodes aren't advertised as two or even three part stories, they still can be viewed as such. Bad Girls and Consequences are two such episodes that form a loose two-parter, and since they revolve around the same plot points and themes, I guessed it would make more sense to tackle these as one big review rather than two in which I repeat myself a lot.
Mind you, I've noticed that I've repeated myself in the past more times than I care to remember. How many times have I mentioned Dragon's Den or The Apprentice, for example?
Anyway, back to Buffyland. Bad Girls/Consequences marks the turning point of the third season with regards to the ongoing season arc.

After months of speculating, head-scratching, hand-wringing and a teaser trailer that evoked more questions than it answered, the secret is finally out. Just what is the Soska sisters' new film American Mary all about?
The answer: underground, extreme body modification.
Dread Central was recently lucky enough to sit down with the Twisted Twins, Jen and Sylvia Soska, and discuss American Mary. To describe the experience, interviewing the Soskas is like trying to hug a beehive…incredibly intense energy, tireless activity and the sense that even though you're dealing with multiple entities, there's an overall feeling of single-mindedness and unity. The Soskas are an incredible breath of fresh air, and after the success of their unique first film, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, the ladies are looking to solidify their place in the horror community. Judging by early response, American Mary is just the film to do it for them.

In a few short weeks, the broadcast networks will storm Madison Avenue with a whole new crop of shows that will either have the power to blow the roof off Nielsen — or give cable another opportunity to crow about their greatness. Will the (near) future of broadcast TV rest on the shoulders of more beauties and beasts? Do viewers want an updated Sherlock Holmes?
Here is the complete list of pilots that are currently under consideration for fall. As usual, not every project will make the cut — but we certainly have our suspicions about the ones that will (here’s looking at you,...

In less than one month, the five broadcast networks will storm Madison Avenue in New York with a whole new crop of shows that will either have the power to blow the roof off Nielsen — or give cable another opportunity to crow about their greatness. Will the (near) future of broadcast TV rest on the shoulders of more beauties and beasts? Do viewers want an updated Sherlock Holmes? Is primetime really the place for Hannibal Lecter?

A few years ago, some friends and I were sitting around (surprise no. 1) complaining about the cowardice shown in mainstream cinema. It’s something that lots of Monday morning film quarterbacks like to do, and like lots of genre fans, we always steer the conversation to make our beloved little corner of film look good. This day in particular we were bitching about how Hollywood wusses out when they title their movies. Can anyone tell me what a film called “Sweet Home Alabama” is really about? Or what subtle nuances will something called “Head Over Heals” bring to an audience?
The talk swung back to horror where we started listed off how great our titles are. Let’s face it, nothing beats the power of titles like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or I Spit On Your Grave. These titles, simply put, say something. We began...
