I binge watched this and got completely caught up. First it was the fashion that caught my eye. Then the family intrigues in an unfamiliar cultural surrounding. I found it very interesting to try to figure out the intricate family loyalties contra social requirements. Money talks is a lasting impression. Then comes the sino-japanese war and what it does to close family members and society in general. It was a bit difficult to understand the different political aspects of the pre communist era, but that is not really important to understand. You can enjoy watching the intriguing anyway.
Love stories with and without family approval or interference runs through the whole show. Business deals and political deals. People of principle and collaborators. It is all in here.
