Devil's Torturer, The (2004)
*** (out of 4)
Fun interview with character actor Herbert Fux who discusses his cult classic MARK OF THE DEVIL. Fux goes over several subjects but the most interesting is the long-running controversy of who really directed the picture. We all know that Michael Reeves was originally going to do it but died before the production started so Michael Armstrong was sent to do it but then the producer got involved and from what Fux says Armstrong probably wasn't even on set during the majority of the shoot! Fux also talks about being impressed with WITCHFINDER GENERAL and this was one of the reasons why he wanted to do the film. Other subjects discussed are the torture scenes and how they were making people sick plus he talks about the ongoing popularity of the film. Fux also gets in a few political thoughts on how all people have evil in them. Overall this was a very good interview as the actor states that he doesn't remember most of his movies but he does this one. You really deliver him because he shares a wealth of knowledge about the making of the film and you really do leave the interview wanting to hear him discuss his other work. It's also worth noting that they shoot Fux in a very strange and dark way and it's almost so dark that you can't see his face.
