After a tragic accident in the 1990s was blamed on a child emulating Beavis's pyromania, the studio forbid any further references to fire or Beavis's love of it in the classic series. The new series has no such restriction and Beavis's love of fire is on full display. Although the "tragic accident" in question happened because two parents left their 3-year-old and infant in their trailer park home unattended while they went to a neighbor's trailer to smoke some pot.
This revival features segments in a universe where Beavis and Butt-Head did not go to space camp like in the movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe and instead grew to be middle aged.
This is the first iteration of the show not to air on MTV. The original run (1993-1997), and the first revival (2011), aired on MTV, with this second revival playing on Paramount+. The original plan for this second revival was to air on Comedy Central, so even if it didn't go to paramount+, it was never intended to air on MTV.
Smart Beavis and Smart Butt-Head are parodies of The Watcher from Marvel Comics. Marvel had published comic books of the original series in the early to middle 1990's.
Principal McVicker and Coach Buzz-Cut do not appear in this reboot, as Mike Judge stated in an interview that he grew tired of voicing them. Another of his characters not to return is the original Burger World manager, who has been replaced by a new one for unknown reasons.
