Lead actress Sara Anne Jones died of a drug overdose at home on September 4, 2012, in New York. The film had only just begun screening at festivals.
The majority of the actors in the film had never acted before and have "Toad Road" as their only acting credit.
According to the DVD commentary, the bulk of the cast were doing drugs for real.
