"A Loira Fantasma" ("The Phantom Blonde") is an urban legend from the state of Paraná which began in 1975 when a mysterious newspaper presented
the story of a mysterious and beautiful blonde woman who hopped on a cab and disappeared from the taxi driver's view during the journey. The desperate
man ran away from his car and went to the police to report the incident, but no one believed him. Soon afterwards, tragic hit him and the man was killed.
The movie presents this scenario as it "happened" or at least as it was told in the media, and the legend still persists among residents and people over 45.
The movie brings some strange humor and lots of dark elements, and in its brief presentation everything is brilliantly told and shown, there are good performances from the unknown cast - even though most of the actors are more in the background rather than having one lead investigating the whole thing - and the movie generates interest, curiosity and a strong sense of appeal. It's a small production but a quite effective one and I really enjoyed even though I didn't know anything about the mysterious events that shook over a whole state.
Reasons given to such scenario is the current wave of horror films released at the time (early 1970's) and people went nuts, hysterical beyond belief and someone created this whole thing, that went viral there way before the term was actually coined. In my school years, growing up in a near-by state, there was also a mysterious blonde that appeared as vision to people, the famous 'The Blonde in the Bathroom' (but I guess other countries have that tale too).
But I remember hearing about it, colleagues discussing to extreme lenghts her apparitions and such, it was something that was all over the media as well. It's just one of those odd fun things that people sometimes take it too seriously. And with a movie like this, it's almost impossible not to take it that way. Kudos to everyone involved. 8/10.
