Welcome to the latest edition of our (semi) regular crowdfunding feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo, Greenlit and Kickstarter. What’s the film about?

Marriage Bites is a …”one-of-a-kind film that seamlessly combines elements of horror, comedy, and social media theories [Indiewrap]”. The film, written by Ashley Hargrove who also stars in the film as Linda – one half of the married couple at the centre of the film which follows Martin and Linda (Hargrove) who, while rebuilding a stale marriage, face an unexpected challenge when Martin is bitten by a vampire, leading them to test various vampire theories and protect their town from the undead.

Syfy captured the cultural zeitgeist in a massive way Thursday with Sharknado, its low-budget campfest about yes, a tornado of sharks. Generating millions of tweets from people including Mia Farrow, Damon Lindelof and more, the TV movie starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering catapulted director Anthony C. Ferrante into the cultural conversation after a long career writing and directing fare including Haunted High, Leprechaun's Revenge and the simply titled Boo. Ghostquake was previously titled Haunted High. This film made its debut on the SyFy Network August 25th. Now, Signature Entertainment will repackage and distribute this title on DVD in the United Kingdom January 21st. The film follows a vengeful ghost of a former principal in a high school. Students are tormented by overflowing toilets, librarians are attacked by book shelf spritis and characters have to run up steep staircases to get away from supernatural forces! Only the janitor (Danny Trejo) can save the day. The film has received some fairly scathing reviews. Felix Vasquez Jr. says of the film's quality: "they [students] are all here to be about as moronic as possible in one of the least scary movies I've ever seen." If you are looking for something original or suspenseful, do not bother with the Syfy Channel’s American Horror House, airing on Saturday, October 13th as part of the network’s 31 Days of Halloween.

However, if you happen to be in the mood for some goofy fun and, generally speaking, enjoy Syfy fare, look no further.

Penned by Syfy veteran Anthony Ferrante (Haunted High, Leprechaun’s Revenge, Headless Horseman) and directed by Darin Scott, who helmed Dark House and co-wrote Tales from the Hood, American Horror House is a convoluted mess. It kicks off with a little girl murdering her parents in bed and immediately jumps to the present. Who they all were and when the murders occurred is unclear.

With Labor Day looming, the kids are heading back to school, and so is Syfy with the premiere of the network's next Original Movie, Haunted High, this coming Saturday night, August 25th. Check out the flick's new trailer.

Haunted High follows a group of teens trapped in their high school by the vengeful ghost of a former principal. Only the grandson of the dead principal holds the key to ending the killing spree terrorizing the school.

Haunted High stars Danny Trejo (Machete), Charisma Carpenter ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel"), and M.C. Gainey ("Justified"). The movie is a production of Active Entertainment.

"Warehouse 13" star Eddie McClintock must stop the Boogeyman while Danny Trejo and Charisma Carpenter tackle a deadly ghost in Syfy’s two “Most Dangerous Night on Television” Original Movie premieres in August. Read on for the airdates and more info.

In Boogeyman, premiering Saturday, August 11th at 9:00 Pm (Et/Pt), a group of young boys inadvertently free the creature from captivity. Going on a rampage, the Boogeyman, whose origin dates back to the time of Genesis, targets an innocent child – whose father is the town Sheriff (McClintock). Boogeyman also stars Emma Samms ("General Hospital"). The movie is a production of UFO Films.

Penelope Ann Miller (Men of a Certain Age) has nabbed a recurring role on ABC’s upcoming sudser Mistresses.

As reported by EW.com, she joins the racy drama — which is based on the British series by the same name — as a woman who has no idea Yunjin Kim’s character was romantically involved with her late husband.

When we first heard about Echo Lake last December, it was slated to be a web series, but things have changed as co-writer (with Kelsey Zukowski) and director Jonathan Moody now tells us it's turned into a feature. They're in the midst of fundraising to finish shooting this winter, and to help move things along in that regard, they've released a new trailer.

The film from Sick Flick Productions stars Chason Hunter, Brittany Colley, Andre Bland, Eli Harris, Kelsey Zukowski, Jonathan Moody, Sam Qualiana, Brandon McPherson, Robert Shepherd, and Frances Mitchell; and once Phase II kicks into gear, they'll be joined by a few more recognizable names: Jackey Hall (Cyborg Conquest, 869), Shawn C. Phillips (Haunted High, Chillerama), Sierra Holmes (Piranha 3Dd, VH1’s "Scream Queens"), and Melantha Blackthorne (Sineaters, The Witching Hour).

Ferrante co-wrote the story starring Jonathan Baron as a student at Holloman Academy, a New England prep school trying to battle a demonic dead headmaster haunting the school. Gainey joined the film as the haunted headmaster and Trejo signed on to play the school janitor who’s secretly its powerful guardian.
