How nice to see a fresh, new approach to a reality dating show. It's so much better than the average themes we've seen before. The fact that all who walk into the venue are known to the person they came to meet, adds to the whole idea being conveyed.
This show is addictive. I had to binge watch all ten episodes once I started! The participants vary in personality, and most are likeable. Any tension is understandable, and comparitively, there is a minimum of drama.
I enjoyed the beautiful location for this season. The settings and foods were eye candy. All in all a great first season for this new concept.

Three days into Covid-19 isolation, I stumbled upon this train wreck full of attractive people praising and cursing a "Portal" for bringing them people from their past. Not all of the contestants are the worst, but there are some deeply awful people on this show. Also- it's clear that the entire show's budget was spent on dry ice.
Silver linings? Betty Who is effortlessly delightful and people exercise together with a 20lb wheel of cheese.

Except for all the like, 'Like' being said like every second word, it's like really, like annoying. But if you can, like, put up with it, it's kinda like fun and like, dumb!

Sometimes you need love to grow. Contestants often had to choose between one of two options when they clearly weren't ready to make that decision, often after just one date, and when we as audiences barely got to see some of their interactions. Contestants sometimes chose the shinier option instead of the person that would have worked better for them as a result.
On the plus side, I heavily enjoyed the diversity of the show. I also liked that there were multiple daters and that the main contestants were sometimes separated from their dates but had times were everyone got together. It allowed you to see the contestants in different contexts which helped you to get to know them better.
Overall, the show has promise and I hope to see future seasons, especially if they make improvements. Also, whoever styled Betty Who (the host) deserves a Razzie.

What can one say about the show that is obviously created just a philosophy created just to fill a slot in the in the millennial bracket?. The contestants on this show are all shallow, self involved, self-promoting people of a very distinct demogeaphic rqnge - upwardly mobile, confident, pretty Millenials.
Of course they have the token gay man and Asian woman, but they both qualify for the same bracket. These people aren't really looking for love because they all seem to lack the mental maturity for any real connection, they are just looking to fill a slot in their mental picture.( Pretty, upwardly mobile spouse to contribute to our life goals - check!!) For almost all of us real love comes when you aren't ooking, aren't expecting it and open your heart to it, not when you are just looking for a business partner. These relationships are doomed to fail before they start, maybe not in the space of this show but within 5 years, tops. But hey, at least the setting and people are pretty.
Want to run a real show like this? Pick people of all walks of life, with a ton more diversity and age range. I'd love to see this show for 30-60 year-olds, with most in their mid-to late 40s. These are people that have actually lived, have regrets and wish for a do-over (but I know those people are out of the 'prime spenders' category *sigh*).

There is 100% no science based facts that you meet the one by the time your 25 but don't know it. Most Millenials get married and have kids in there 30s or later due to wanting to experiencing life and with life expentancey at an all time high, they should experience life as long as they can before settling down. A trainwreck of a show forcing people to be together before they are ready to be together or were no right for each other in the first place.

Don't get me wrong - I enjoy both - but this show is the winner. Less toxic relationships & more entertainment since it can be anyone from your past.
I'm only halfway through, but my current highlights are Anthony's confessionals (or reactions to anything) & Allyssa's cringeworthy dates. Probably will finish this in 24 hours. Good job, Amazon.

Novel concept and great addition to the world of dating shows. Unlike the cheesy fairytale known as the bachelor, this show actually pairs people who, in most cases, know each other. Tune in to see if an old fling can become your new thing. Sometimes you meet the love of your life at the wrong time.
Excellent premise for a dating reality show. It's a thought that's crossed all our minds at one point - what if our perfect match was in our past??!
Interesting cast members and matches from their past. Most are just regular nice people. And, of course there's one drama Queen!
Now on the second episode. I'm looking forward to see where this goes...

The cast is super diverse and the concept is fresh and relatable. The show was so addicting! Definitely enjoyed watching all the story lines unfold and they all were so different that it kept things exciting. The fact that their dates are all from different parts of their past just makes the show that much more enticing! Definitely must see reality tv!!

It was my first experience watching a dating reality show and I really think that The One That Got Away is one of the well recommended show to watch.
All of the cast are just amazing.. in my pov , watching a dating show isn't means that blindly watching , you get to know each other's more as a newly couple and more...
Lastly , I would be excited as I'm expecting there will be Season 2 coming soon !! Love to all cast !!

I agree with the other review that this show is a classier version of Ex on the Beach. I think that this show could use a bit more work, but it had an interesting first season.
The casting for most part is fantastic! I really love Anthony. Give that man his own show! He's so fun, entertaining, hilarious, sassy, and amazing. I love every single appearance he makes on the screen. It's also nice to see more representation on a dating show, and hopefully there will be more in the next season.
I like to see the interactions between the people from the past that show up. I like to see the friendships that form on reality TV.
I am not a big fan of the host. She's meh. Not bad, not great.
The main cast is okay. I enjoy watching how delusional Alyssa is, and her cringe dates are amusing. It's so obvious that she's not getting people she expected to see. I am not a big fan of Ashley. She definitely needs to work through her insecurities. She gives men mixed signals, and gets jealous over men she's not even into. I am not a big fan, but I guess it makes for some entertaining drama.
Give this show a try if you have watched all other reality TV, and are craving some more. I hope there will be a second season. I also really hope Anthony gets his own show because I will watch all of it!

Loved the show! Very entertaining.
Only down sides: would have liked to see more dates between the candidates. Feels like they were waiting around mostly. (Plus an idea of how much time was passing between the events would have been great.
AND my biggest critic for this show: the host was so handsy, she could not stop touching the candidates and being like way too much intimate/loving with them. Made it awkward and uncomfortable to watch.
She seems nice, but it was too much for me.
