This movie was based on the 2007 beating of Victoria Lindsey.
A video of some of the real-life beating, released by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, was used heavily by the news media and the story caused nationwide public outrage.
Anne Heche and James Tupper previously costarred in TV'S Men in Trees (2006) which is when they fell in love. They made this movie while they were together for nearly 10 years until their split in 2018.
