Guitarist Randy Bachman of the ’70s rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive is the focus of the 2024 documentary Takin’ Care of Business. The Canadian band scored success with hits including “Takin’ Care of Business,” “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” “Let It Ride,” and “Roll On Down the Highway,” and hit #1 on the charts with their 1974 album Not Fragile.

Bachman left the band, which originally consisted of bassist Fred Turner, drummer Robbie Bachman, and guitarist Blair Thornton, in 1977. Since then, there have been multiple iterations of the group. In 2009, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner formed Bachman & Turner, and in the fall of 2023, Bachman-Turner Overdrive reunited for a tour.

Writer/director Tyler Measom’s new documentary, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, focuses on Randy Bachman. Randy, along with Tal Bachman, KoKo Bachman, Lorelei Bachman, Bannatyne Bachman Matson, Takeshi Kaneda, and William Long, are featured in the behind-the-scenes look at the rocker’s life.

BAFTA Award-nominee Callum Turner is joining Neuromancer, a new 10-episode drama based on the sci-fi novel of the same name by William Gibson.

Everyone loves fun car films. With Fast X spawning a spin-off and sequel and Gran Tusimo (out on VOD Tuesday) doing decent business at the box office, the genre isn’t going anywhere. We thought now would be a good time to check out some less-known (or underrated) entries into the genre.

Taxi

We’re going to cheat right off the start by counting this whole series and one entry on this list. The films here are action-comedy classics for fans of French movies and those who love a good car stunt. The first established the characters, but the second is possibly the best of the bunch. Only die-hard fans will want to bother from the third to the fourth to the fifth. However, those first two are worth seeking out what the French do with a modified Peugeot 406, the vacation town of Nice, and a cast that most will recognize from other movies.

Post Malone experiences something that falls between a religious epiphany and a therapeutic breakthrough while pacing around somebody’s roof in Los Angeles in a new, live-performance video of his Austin song “Something Real.” In the clip, he steps on the shingles of a home as stadium lights, which look a bit like something out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, flash around him. “Give me something I can feel,” he sings along with a gospel choir before breaking with logic to bleat, “like a cigarette just so I can breathe.

Post Malone has dropped a new single, “Overdrive.” The song is the third track to emerge from his upcoming fifth album, Austin, out July 28 via Mercury Records/Republic Records. A Vevo Official Live Performance of “Overdrive” will arrive on Friday.

The acoustic guitar-led single sees Malone pensively reflecting on a relationship. “I’ll remove my tattoos if that’s cool to you,” he sings on the mid-tempo rock track. “I’ll do anything to be cool to you.”

The film will begin production in the fall in Colombia. Bachman–Turner Overdrive’s founding guitarist Tim Bachman has died at the age of 71. His son, Ryder Bachman, confirmed the guitarist’s death on social media. Alongside his brothers Robbie and Randy, as well as Fred Turner, the musician performed on two of the band’s defining records, Bachman–Turner Overdrive and Bachman–Turner Overdrive II.

“My Dad passed this afternoon. Thank You Everyone for the kind words,” Bachman’s son wrote. In the black-and-white photograph he shared alongside the post, the father and son stood together on a mountaintop landing.

Tim Bachman, singer and guitarist with hard-driving Canadian rock band Bachman Turner Overdrive, has died at age 71.

On Friday, the musician’s son, Ryder Bachman, shared the sad news via Facebook.

“My Dad passed this afternoon.,” he wrote. “Thank You Everyone for the kind words. Grateful I got to spend some time with him at the end. Grab yer loved ones and hug em close, ya never know how long you have.”

In a previous post, Ryder Bachman revealed that he’d received a call that the condition of his father, who was his hospice care, had taken a downward turn. “They told me to hurry, come say goodbye to him and pay my last respects, as he probably has minutes, hours, maaaaybe a day left- they don’t know,” he wrote. “He had some complications and they rushed him to the emergency unit and found out he has cancer riddled all throughout his brain…...

Abba guitarist Lasse Wellander has died at 70 years old, the musician’s family announced. The Sweden native died on Friday, April 7 after a battle with cancer.

Taking to Wellander’s official Facebook page, his family wrote, “It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep. Lasse recently fell ill in what turned out to be spread cancer and early on Good Friday he passed away, surrounded by his loved ones.”

“You were an amazing musician and humble as few, but above all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Kind, safe, caring and loving… and so much more, that cannot be described in words. A hub in our lives, and it’s unbelievable that we now have to live on without you.”

Exclusive: Award-winning filmmaker Fatih Akin has signed with Sentient Entertainment for management across all areas.

The German-Turkish creative is perhaps best known for his thriller In the Fade, which claimed the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 2017 and brought star Diane Kruger the Cannes Film Festival’s award for Best Actress. The film was selected to compete there for the Palme D’Or and was Germany’s official entry for the Academy Awards.

Akin is currently in production on his next film, Rheingold, based on the real-life story of Turkish gangster rapper Xatar. Dick Wolf's reign on broadcast is showing no signs of slowing down.

The super producer is poised to add another series to his impressive resume by expanding the wildly successful FBI franchise.

Deadline is reporting that the third series in the FBI universe will be titled FBI: International and is currently in the "dealmaking stages."

Derek Haas is attached to pen the script and will serve as EP alongside Peter Jankowski, and Arthur Forney.

The series will be produced by Universal Television, Wolf Entertainment, and CBS Studios.

Haas is well-known for his work on the One Chicago universe, as well as movies such as 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Double, Wanted, and Overdrive.

Talk of a third FBI series has been going on for some time.

Netflix has partnered with six Japanese anime creators as it doubles down on the genre.

The streamer has struck deals with Clamp (Cardcaptor Sakura), Shin Kibayashi (The Kindaichi Case Files), Yasuo Ohtagaki (Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt), Otsuichi (Goth), Tow Ubukata (Mardock Scramble) and Mari Yamazaki (Thermae Romae).

These creators are a mix of manga artists, novelists, screenwriters and filmmakers. They will develop new projects and Netflix will also explore ways to exploit these projects off-screen through publishing and consumer products

It comes after Netflix struck deals with five Japanese animation producers – Production I.G, bones, anima, David Production and Sublimation – last year.

Other anime projects in the works at Netflix include spin-off feature film The Witcher: Nightmare of the WolfandMasters of the Universe: Revelation, Kevin Smith’s upcoming series based on He-Man, Skeletor, Teela and the Masters of the Universe franchise voiced by Mark Hamill and Lena Headey.

Colombian filmmakers Antonio and Daniel Negret will adapt the feature.

Here’s the synopsis: The Colombian cartel never expected the single most dangerous threat to their drug smuggling operation to be a decorated police dog. Emma Mackey, the breakout star of popular Netflix series Sex Education, has officially boarded the cast of UK-France survival thriller Summit Fever.

The actress joins Freddie Thorp (Overdrive) in the film, which is from A Lonely Place To Die director Julian Gilbey.

Set in the French Alps, Summit Fever is the story of a young English mountaineer who is lured to the Alps by his friend to help him conquer the ‘Big Three’ – the Matterhorn, the Eiger, and Mont Blanc, all over one summer.

“Aliens of the Deep” director Steven Quale is set to direct aquatic thriller “Alphas,” based on the screenplay by Frank Hannah. Finance and sales are by Voltage Pictures.

The story sees a school of great white sharks terrorize a coastal town. The town’s only hope is a damaged killer whale who has been in solitary confinement for years after killing its trainer.

Production is by Nicolas Chartier for Voltage, Pierre Morel (“Taken”) and Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin. Jonathan Deckter, president and COO of Voltage, will executive produce. The film is being pitched at the American Film Market.
