‘The Gorge’ – Anya Taylor-Joy Wields an Axe in Behind the Scenes Photo from Scott Derrickson’s Movie
Up next from Sinister, The Black Phone and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is The Gorge for Skydance and Apple Original Films, and Vanity Fair shares a sneak peek today.
Derrickson explains the behind-the-scenes shot to Vanity Fair, “For one set piece, we had a WWII Willys Jeep pulled up the side of a rock wall while under attack. Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy did most of their own stunts while attached to safety wires.”
Check out the wild behind-the-scenes photo below and read on for more information.
In the movie, “Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy play elite snipers – one American, the other Lithuanian – stationed in watchtowers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge located in a faraway land whose exact location they’re not even allowed to know. Their mission? To safeguard the outside world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within.

Horror movies have been with us for a very, very long time. This genre, despite inducing shock and fear among the viewers, is extremely popular, and starting with Alfred Hitchcock, some directors have made careers by making horrors. George Romero, John Carpenter, and Wes Craven are considered classics, while today, we have a series of new, young directors who are great in the genre.
And since we’re writing this in a period of year when horrors are even more popular than usual, we have found a very interesting report that has seemingly determined the scariest horror movie of all time based on objective scientific criteria.
If you want to know how the guys at Science of Scare determined this and which horror movie actually won the prestigious title, we advise you to stick with us until the end as we are going to reveal absolutely everything you need to know.

Up to this point, not much has been known about The Gorge, the latest film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Announced two years ago, it’s an Apple Original Film coming our way from Skydance Productions and has Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) in the lead roles – and today, IGN has revealed some information about the film, which will be released through Apple TV+ sometime in 2025. Along with the info comes the unveiling of some first look images and a poster, which can now be seen in this article.
Based on a spec script by Zach Dean, The Gorge is said to be a high-action, genre-bending love story. We previously heard that it centers on two soldiers (Taylor-Joy and Teller) who are tasked with guarding a seemingly never-ending gorge with one agent posted on either side. IGN revealed that Teller...

Video games are adapting many major horror franchises with some truly intriguing results. One of the most recent horror franchises to receive its own game is the A Quiet Place film saga. Given their solid original material, many other horror movies could also receive strong adaptations.
Here are eight modern horror movies that could follow in the footsteps of The Road Ahead.
8. The Hunt The Hunt could result in a very interesting game. Image via Universal Pictures
This film adds a touch of dark humor and provides a sharp social critique, but it doesn’t offer anything new in the horror genre. You could easily translate all of this into a high-quality video game, where you could use multiple characters and a variety of weapons to survive.
The main villains, with their unique skills and rewards for defeating them, could also possess a highly developed arsenal.

A lot of horror movies are inspired by paganism in some way. One horror movie took things a step further by inventing a new pagan god. The film reinforced a lot of widespread perceptions of ancient paganism.
This horror movie is about a fake pagan god who preys on children
One of the best horror movies of the 2010s is Sinister. The movie stars Ethan Hawke as an author who finds a box of mysterious Super 8 films in his attic. The films each depict a different small child killing all the members of their families. He comes to believe that the killings were the work of a Babylonian pagan deity called Bughuul, who was the basis for the boogeyman. Supposedly, early Christians were terrified of images of Bughuul, because they felt that they could help the god enter the physical world and possess children. The film has some pretty terrifying moments.

X-Men ’97 took the world by storm with its debut, smashing together a slew of X-Men stories and delivering a first season that fans can’t help but watch again and again. However, the supposed engineer behind the show, Beau DeMayo, has found himself fired from the job, and there also seems to be some restructuring going on the part of Disney to make the show less in line with what DeMayo had in mind.
A scene from X-Men ‘97 (image credit: Marvel)
Perhaps owing to this, a report has pegged the premiere date of the sophomore season of the show in 2026, which indicates that Marvel fans will be without any sort of proper X-Men content for the better part of a year and a half.

It's long been known that "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" underwent some behind-the-scenes changes when original director Scott Derrickson departed in 2020, to be replaced by Sam Raimi. What those changes were, though, and indeed what Derrickson had planned in the first place, remained unclear... until, it seems, now.
"X-Men '97" creator and former showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared details on X/Twitter. Apparently, big changes were made during rewrites to the Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), turning her from supporting hero to villain.
Recap time: Wanda — once an Avenger — went a little mad with grief after Thanos (Josh Brolin) murdered her android lover Vision (Paul Bettany) back in "Avengers: Infinity War." In Disney+ series "WandaVision," she let loose her reality-warping powers to another level, brainwashing the town of Westview, New Jersey to make an idyllic sitcom-life for herself and a magical facsimile of Vision. "Multiverse of Madness" carries on from there,...

The first "V/H/S" movie was released in 2012, which was actually four full years before the last manufacturers of VCRs, Funai Electric, finally halted production on the medium.
VHS was, for those of a certain age, a seminal and ubiquitous technology. Prior to VHS, the only way to see certain cinematic classics was either to go to a repertory theater (which used to be far more common) and see it on the big screen (requiring a well-curated arthouse in your town) or to wait for something to broadcast on network TV (which was often edited for content or time). With the advent of VHS, movies were on-demand for the first time. One could rent their movies from a local video store and watch them at their leisure. The name Blumhouse has become almost synonymous with horror in the modern era, thanks to the success of franchises such as "The Purge," "Paranormal Activity," and the recent "Halloween" reboot trilogy. That sort of brand recognition is tough to acquire in Hollywood. That said, the studio has had something of an off year, and could use an unqualified hit to get things back on track. It looks like the upcoming "Speak No Evil" remake could be that much-needed hit when it opens next weekend.
Director James Watkins' take on "Speak No Evil" is currently eyeing a debut in the $15 to $20 million range, per Box Office Theory. While the budget has yet to be revealed, Blumhouse rarely goes over $20 million since its business model has always been predicated on spending low to potentially hit it big. It worked with Jordan Peele's "Get Out," it worked with M. Night Shyamalan's...

In the 1960s, The Beatles’ level of fame eclipsed anything they thought was possible. Everywhere they went, they faced crowds of screaming fans and inquiring journalists. While they wanted recognition for their music, they felt things had gone a bit too far. Their friend shared the part of their success that depressed the band the most.
A friend of The Beatles said their fame depressed them
As Beatlemania raged on across the world, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr became accustomed to finding fans camped outside their homes. People followed them wherever they went, and the crush of the crowds became dangerous. As a result, they avoided many public spaces.
“We reached a point where quite often, The Beatles were longing to have privacy,” their friend, Alex Mardas, said in the book All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines.

And we’re back. We’re back to possession and we are back to it being heavy on the religious side and everything purported to be a true story. This time we are looking a little deeper into the legal implications of what happens when someone is injured or even dies during an exorcism, sanctioned or not. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (watch it Here) was a massive commercial hit and garnered middle of the pack reviews when it came out in 2005. 2005 was not a banner year for horror and it was different from the slew of remakes as well as setting itself apart from nearly everything else that came out that year. While The Asylum, known for schlock takes on popular products, would release their version of the true story in 2011 and German film Requiem would come out to far better acclaim the next year, Emily Rose would be...

There’s been a bit of mystery surrounding Shelby Oaks, the directorial debut of Chris Stuckmann. A YouTuber who got his start reviewing films and has now amassed over two-million subscribers, Stuckmann pursued his goal of becoming a full-fledged filmmaker, got producers to come aboard, and then pulled off the feat of raising nearly $1.4 million via crowdfunding to finance his film. After making Shelby Oaks, he got Mike Flanagan to sign on as executive producer, nabbed a world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, and compelled Neon to pick the film up for a wide theatrical release. While he’s not the first person to pull off the transition from YouTube to theaters––you can look to Danny and Michael Philippou’s (aka RackaRacka) breakout success Talk to Me as another example––Stuckmann’s journey to the big screen is about as ideal as a first-time feature filmmaker could ask for.

There are many rules in the genre of horror. Never build anything on top of an ancient Indian burial ground. Don’t say “I’ll be right back”. Because you won’t. Netflix’s popularity can be attributed to many different movies and shows, but, in my opinion, their horror anthology series Black Mirror was integral to their overnight success because I can remember obsessing over its brutal satire like it was yesterday. Then, the streaming platform’s Indian branch made Lust Stories, and the idea of provocative storytelling featuring Bollywood stars felt promising. Love, Death, and Robots became everyone’s favorite almost instantly, with its vivid style and precise storytelling. And then things sort of went downhill with absolutely trashy products like Ghost Stories, Ludo, Paava Kadhaigal, Pitta Kathalu, Ankahi Kahaniya, Ajeeb Dastans, Feels Like Ishq, Ray, and Lust Stories 2. The only diamond in the rough was Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. And it seems like Netflix has learned the right lesson from it and has brought another anthology series inspired by the works of an acclaimed director: Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams.

There's no greater fear than the unknown. Our heritage as beings evolved from organisms whose survival instinct was developed thousands of years ago means that we're all afraid of the literal and/or metaphorical dark, if for no better reason than we inherently know that danger can lie in wait within those unseen spaces. With knowledge comes logic, reason, and enlightenment, but there are still many questions about existence without answers, chief among them what else may exist beyond our corporeal forms. The conception of a God or Gods is a comforting one, but as logic follows, the existence of both good and evil in the world could mean that there is no God without a Devil.
It's that ambiguous, unresolved fear we all have about the nature of evil and its potential tangibility that writer/director Osgood Perkins has demonstrated an uncanny knack for tapping into. From his debut,...

The filmmaking duo behind the 2021 sleeper hit The Black Phone, based on Joe Hill's short story, have just inked a new deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment! Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill have signed a first-look agreement with Sony, specifically their genre-focused division Screen Gems, reports Deadline.
Derrickson previously worked with Screen Gems on his breakout horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose, one of my favorite possession films of all time. Screen Gems is also the studio behind last year's huge hit Insidious: The Red Door and the recently released Tarot. The studio's upcoming projects include the sixth Insidious film and the John Cho-led horror film They Listen.
Besides The Black Phone, Derrickson and Cargill collaborated on Sinister and Sinister 2, which collectively made over $140 million at the box office. The duo is currently in post-production on the romantic action film The Gorge, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Miles Teller,...

Screen Gems has put out a whole lot of horror movies over the years, with titles including The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Don’t Breathe, Resident Evil, Underworld, Deliver Us from Evil, The Grudge, Carrie, The Stepfather, Prom Night, The Pope’s Exorcist, Insidious: The Red Door, and the recently released Tarot – and they’re making moves to ensure they’re going to be seen as a source for interesting horror in the years ahead. The duo behind Sinister, Doctor Strange and The Black Phone, Scott Derrickson and his frequent partner C. Robert Cargill have set up shop at Screen Gems, Deadline reports tonight.
The idea behind the pact? To bring new genre films to movie theaters.
Specifically, in Deadline’s words, they’ve “signed a first look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to produce feature films for Screen Gems under their Crooked Highway banner.”
“We first got to experience Scott’s talent with The Exorcism of Emily Rose. From then on, he and Cargill have excelled in reinventing the genre space by pushing boundaries and tapping into people’s deepest fears. They have an incredible ability to connect with (and scare) audiences. We feel lucky to have them here at Screen Gems and look forward to creating hits and breaking new boundaries with them at our side,” said Ashley Brucks, President, Screen Gems.

Amazing Spider-Man #50 was recently released and ended with a major status quo shift for Peter Parker. The hero has been secretly brainwashed by the Green Goblin, transforming him into the twisted "Spider-Goblin."
We've yet to see the consequences of that change, though we're not expecting the hero's villainous new persona to be a permanent change.
The series has also seen the Sinister Six reassemble, and while that would usually be a problem for Peter, they'll now have to face the web-slinger with his twisted new persona.
Today, we have two spectacular variant covers for the final two chapters in this storyline; illustrated by Gabrielle Dell'Otto, we see the classic version of Spidey doing battle with the team: Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, and The Vulture.

Filmmaker Scott Derrickson helmed the first Doctor Strange back in 2016. The noted horror filmmaker, who was known for his film Sinister handled the first live-action depiction of the Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU. The film received positive responses around the world and was a commercial success, earning $677 million at the global box office.
While Derrickson did a great job with the film, he left the sequel after working on it for a while due to creative differences. Recently, a fan posted a nice detail about the first film which proved why the MCU was great back in the day and why Kevin Feige seemed to have forgotten the kind of creators that were involved in its making.

We don’t know very much about The Gorge, the latest film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Announced a year and a half ago, it’s an Apple Original Film coming our way from Skydance Productions and has Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) in the lead roles – and it has just earned a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, some suggestive material and thematic elements.
Taylor-Joy recently told the folks at Collider that she was drawn to The Gorge because “I was really excited to work with Miles [Teller]. We’re all good friends, but we’ve been wanting to work together for a really long time. I think I was intrigued by the fact that it was semi genre-less in the sense that it was both a...

In the X-Men '97 season 1 finale, the team was thrown backwards (and forwards) in time. In 3000 B.C., we watched as Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Rogue and Nightcrawler encountered a young En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse.
Meanwhile, in 3060 A.D., Cyclops and Jean Grey crossed paths with a younger version of their son, Cable. As for Wolverine, Morph, Jubilee, and Storm, they're currently unaccounted for (though it's been confirmed they're not in the present and are scattered across one or both timelines).
Talking to IGN (via Toonado.com), supervising director Jake Castorena teased plans for Apocalypse in X-Men '97 season 2, explaining why the decision was made to put the spotlight back on the iconic villain.
"With the X-Men, for better or for worse, all roads usually end up leading to Apocalypse, right? It's either Apocalypse, Sinister, or Magneto," he says. "What I will say is we do things on purpose.

As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes, "Moon Knight" occupies a strange place. Starring Oscar Isaac in the lead role, it involves a superhero with a personality disorder, with the whole show steeped in Egyptian lore. It's unique in and amongst the vast sea of other superhero stuff out there. That was made clear even from the show's opening moments, which see Ethan Hawke's villain Arthur Harrow pouring broken glass in his shoes before walking around in them somewhat casually. It was a twisted moment, particularly for the historically PG-13 MCU. It turns out this moment came from the mind of Hawke himself.
In a 2022 interview with Yahoo, the actor, known for his work in movies like "Training Day" and "Sinister," was asked about the moment in question. Hawke explained that it all stemmed from him trying to figure out the character. In the end, he ended up...

Joaquin Phoenix "didn't really belong" in 'Doctor Strange'.The 49-year-old actor was once eyed to play the lead role in the Marvel movie - but director Scott Derrickson now admits that Benedict Cumberbatch is much more suited to the part.Scott, 57, told SlashFilm: "I met with a bunch of actors, and Joaquin was the one that I spent the most time with. "As we continued to talk, it became clear to me that Joaquin didn't really belong in that movie and probably never belonged in the MCU. The iconic character of Doctor Strange in the MCU has become one of the most loved ones over the years, and a major credit for this goes to none other than the fan-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch. In fact, the 47-year-old actor was so widely loved in the role that even those fans who rallied for Joaquin Phoenix for the role can’t imagine someone else playing the character.

That being said, Phoenix got really, really close to nabbing that role from Cumberbatch. However, fortunately enough, things went in the favor of The Imitation Game actor. What’s more, even though his involvement in the movie cost Marvel millions of dollars due to scheduling conflicts, the franchise still agreed, as per what the director of the 2016 movie Scott Derrickson recently confessed.

Scott Derrickson has been working pretty steadily in Hollywood for just about 25 years now, and in that time, he's amassed a fascinating collection of credits. I had the good fortune of speaking with him recently about his pretty wild career from top to bottom. From his feature directorial debut "Hellraiser: Inferno" to his Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster "Doctor Strange," Derrickson has a varied resume, to put it lightly. From insanely high highs to borderline tragic lows, the man's career has endured an awful lot. Taken as a whole, his filmography is a compelling case study. It's also one that has a very clear "before" and "after" element to it.
The big moment of change, at first glance, was his 2012 low-budget horror hit "Sinister," a movie that helped establish the Blumhouse model of success in addition to being regarded as one of the scariest movies ever made. It's something I had...

Doctor Strange director, Scott Derrickson, is known for two things: horror and Marvel. His epic vision and style shine through in films like Sinister and The Day the Earth Stood Still. And yet, fans weep over the scandal-ridden production of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness.
An IP that should have remained in the hands of Derrickson, the changing of the old guard to bring in Sam Raimi was a decision praised by many. However, with time, regrets surface, and missed opportunities are realized as fans grasp the true scale of Scott Derrickson’s vision.

There are truly one or two things in this world that are worthy of being called the stuff of legends. Among monuments, it’s the Giza Necropolis; in literature, Homer’s Iliad; and, of course, Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey when it comes to film.

All hell broke loose in the fifth episode of “X-Men ’97,” “Remember It.” The shocking events are so traumatic, in fact, that fired showrunner Beau DeMayo momentarily broke his silence about the show to explain why it was important to reflect that “the X-Men have now been hit hard by the realities of an adult and unsafe world.”
It was against this unpredictable backdrop that The Newton Brothers Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart composed a score (out May 24) for the reboot that both honored and transcended the spirit of “X-Men: The Animated Series.”

On the heels of their collaboration on the horror film Imaginary, Lionsgate and Blumhouse today announced that they will partner on the development and production of a new The Blair Witch Project as the first film in a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library.
