Among huge expectations pouring from every corners, Billa 2 finally made its appearance in the screens today. Chakri Toleti, 'Unnai Pol oruvan' fame, has boldly attempted in making a movie with Thala. The movie revolves around David Billa, a refugee from Sri Lanka, transforming into a gangster. Parvathy and Bruna, share the lead heroine role but fails to accomplish their part. But,Vidyuth does his part well, being stylish and a perfect villain across the seas.
Ajith literally steals the show. He appears to be a stylish Don. The dialogues by Era Murugan and Mohamed Zafar seems to be punchy and meaningful. Editing by Suresh could've been better. Music by Yuvan is pretty ordinary but keeps us engaged with the movie. Excellent Cinematography by Rajasekhar, he has made the film look stylish with his technical equipments. Slow Screenplay as resulted in many flaws in the movie.
Its Susprising that a gangster donating one crore to CM, with media covering the whole scene. Loopholes like these could have been avoided. Its so disappointing with the gangster song being placed with end credits. Belly dance sequence is unnecessary and lags the movie.
Stunt shows were promising and the helicopter sequence, even though pretty old, yet it is a big treat for ajith fans !! Overall, Chakri Toleti failed to fulfill the humongous expectations. But, thala fans would enjoy this adult rated movie.

Billa 2 Review - Perspective of Ajith Fans & Common Man
Billa 2 had a huge expectation, was talk of TAMIL NADU, Released in Record Number of Theaters - To sum it up, 15000 online tickets were sold out in Mayajaal within half a day of the start of the booking, (82 shows)..
Did the Movie satisfy the FANS OF TAMIL Cinema, is it a Superb Hit like FB messages posted by Ajith Fans or a utter flop as messages posted by Vijay Fans?
Here goes the Review of Person who is neither a fan of Ajith or Vijay or any Actor in the world..
Movie Starts with Ajith first and the best Punch dialogue which you must have seen in Trailer..Fight Scene after that JUSTIFIES the reason for Movie's "A'' Certificate...Lots of VIOLENCE in the Movie..Not for People who hates Violence..
Ajith -- One Man Army..He is a man who doesn't have RASIGAR MANDRAM but has FANS much more than anyone else in the WORLD in the present generation..
People feel Proud to say that they are AJITH Fan..They don't bother about STORY of the Movie, whether it is a HIT or FLOP, they just blindly follow and love him to the Core..It is enough for them if they watch his face in Theater Screen..
Ajith has done a wonderful job in the Movie..Sadly, he is the only one who has done his job well in Billa 2 Team itself other than the lyrics writer..
"Mathavangaloda BAYAM than Namaku BALAM
Just imagine the WHISTLES and SOUNDS , Ajith fans must have given for these dialogues...
But, if you are not a AJITH Fan, you may feel bored as most of the dialogues spoken by the actor are PUNCH DIALOGUES..
Definitely, Ajith's STYLE and COSTUMES were better in BILLA...
Heroines - Parvathy and Bruna doesn't even have scenes as much as Nayanthara and Namitha in Billa..Parvathy - doesn't fit the role and was wasted..Bruna has provided the OOMPH Factor in the movie similar to Nayanthara..
Yuvan Back Ground Music -- He had great opportunity to give an EXCELLENT Background Music but he has not satisfied his fans..Naan E Background Music was the major reason for Success of that Movie..Seems NAAN EE will Reincarnates again Next WEEK in Tamil Nadu...
Chakri Toleti --NO WORDS.. You will be praising Vishnu Vardhan like anything after watching this Movie..Venkat Prabhu used Ajith effectively in MANKATHA..
Idhayam Song was not there in the Movie..
Gangster Song, which was highly popular was totally wasted...It comes as a BLOOPER in the end..BLOOPER too was also just average and not as good as MANKATHA's bloopers.
Final Verdict:
AJITH FANS - MARANA MASS ( SUPERB HIT)
VIJAY FANS - MARANA FLOP (Utter Flop)
COMMON MAN - Average Movie...
Not as Bad as Alwar, Asal & Not as good as Mankatha or Billa..

If you've played GTA or MAFIA kinda games, you'll be irritated to watch this movie! To be frank, David Billa moves around with all freedom after the number of murders he commits(even it can be excused!) But, he executes everyone just like that! To be precise he plays 'GOD'. The movie started well after the credits. It traveled well until Billa joins ANNACHI. After that it gets predictable and monotonous. Sometimes certain scenes won't even stand to our predictions, don't get too excited, The fact is that it's worse than that! So when you start to predict, If you wanna be right with your prediction then expect the next scene to be very normal and the twists implied to be the twists during stone age cinema. The camera was good. All the scenes are the same and that is - BILLA kills boss to be the boss! Only the character artists and locations are changed! They've tried the SIN CITY type in one song which I'd say was indeed new and nice! Ajith plays his part well...Camera was nice, so were the locations. Costumes at certain places were inappropriate, Otherwise it was savvy. Editing was simple and nice. Technically the movie was good. The pre production wasn't effective enough I guess. Bad screenplay alone lets the movie down. One thing is evident from movies like these- They're not allowing the audience to grow! When this kinda taste prevails among the audience, I'm afraid even Great movies like THE GODFATHER (Francis Ford Coppola) won't stand tall! .... SAD!

When you leave the movie theater after watching Billa 2, you wonder if its the best thing that has happened to the gangster genre of Kollywood or even for the Billa series. But, through the course of its narration, it misses the much requited pace and becomes slightly predictable.
The narrative style is entirely new to Tamil Cinema and Billa 2 surely has its moments of awe, which is largely due to the lead actor Ajith Kumar's screen presence and the way he tricks his rivals to death. There is a lot of gun slinging and fewer song sequences than in Billa, but they contribute to the story and keeps you in the edge of the seat. Ajith Kumar and director Chakri Toleti have put together some serious hard work and their efforts and results, are a treat on-screen. Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score and songs hugely supplement the story with its action sequences and his music is out of the world!
A few scenes could have been added to brief even more about David Billa's rift with the cops and fellow mafias. The style of narration is excellent a refreshingly new one though. Its impressiveness lies in the actors supporting it, fine camera work and top notch BGM.
Verdict: Mankatha > Billa 2 > Billa Points: 8 out of 10

Billa 2 Movie Review!
One the most awaited movie of the year Billa 2 released globally with record number of prints. Will it satisfy our expectations read on to know more
First of all Billa 2 is a Don movie, so if we say there is no comedy or sentiments in it we must be joking coz we should expect what we should expect from a Don movie. And the movie delivers it with loads of action. Kudos to the director Chakri Toleti for not succumbing to the stereotype masala path and delivering a honest movie without much of deviations.
The story is simple, how David Billa becomes Don, because of situations and people around him. Digging the story further is not of much use since the movie does not rely on story.
With not much experience in the cast Ajith carries the movie single handedly with ease and will make you sit and watch the entire movie without giving us any dull moments. He is fantastic in action sequences and his screen presence ensures you don't need many other reasons to go and watch the movie. His risks in stunt scenes are worth mentioning and yet again he proved that he is dedicated and takes any level of risk to satisfy his audience. His fan base in abroad is sure to get a good increase coz of his portrayal as a refugee.
Parvathy Omanakuttan and Bruna Abdullah does not have much scope to perform but they help a lot in adding to the glamour portion of the movie, as expected from a Don movie heroines. One might feel that they would have utilized well. Other actors are sufficiently done their job with a special mention to Elavarasu. Both the main villains Sudanshu Pandey and Vidyut Jammanwal are promising and done a neat job. Era Murugan dialogues are short but creates a good impact with the audience. One would expect action movies should have long and loud punch dialogues, but because of Billa 2'S slick nature dialogues cope up well and packs a punch.
Technically the movie is excellent thanks to great camera work RD Rajasekhar and good music by Yuvan. Until the last half an hour we might feel that Yuvan did not live up to the expectations on BGM, but he delivers well in the end, especially the momnet when the BGM merges to Billa 1 theme was fantastic and the audience went crazy.Songs are good and picturized well. That Georgian song is nice to listen. Gangster song comes only at the end bloopers which a slight disappointment considering the popularity it gained prior to the release of the movie but the other way you would think that is a perfect song for end bloopers.
Box Office Prospects:
Movie is sold at slightly less than 30 crores which is very reasonable and is safe enough for the distributors to laugh their way to bank despite the A rating of the movie. Movie will easily manage to collect 60 - 70 crores in 10 days as predicted by Aascar Ravichandran.
Overall Verdict:
Action movie lovers and Thala fans will lap it up. The violent scenes may keep the female audience bit away but not much sexually explicit scenes as told by rumors, you can watch it with family if you can digest the blood and gore during action scenes. Just go for it to see a Tamil movie focusing only on subject rather than mixing up mindless comedies and needless dialogues.
A neat spicy action briyani from the team.
Billa 2 is a clear winner

Just completed watching Billa 2 @ 5AM today... Stunts were extraordinary.Movie has been paced very well.I don't think any hero will take risk as Ajith did in Billa 2....
Worth the watch...I do not want to give anything away...Watch out for stunts and dialogues in the movie.. Cinematography and Music adds strength to the movie..
For Thala fans...We got another back2back hit after long time...
Kudos to Chakri!!
Billa 2 has done justice to thala fans as well as common movie-goers..
Watch it ..u will not regret it...
Going to watch it again tomorrow!!

Billa 2- A review
If you were expecting Billa 2 to be a conventional 'masala' flick with 'mass-oriented' scenes interspersed with the story of a gangster, then you'd be disappointed. Billa 2 is a serious movie till the end. At the outset, it should be mentioned that the movie has scenes adapted from Scarface and The Godfather. It is not like there hasn't been any Tamil movie that ripped off scenes from The Godfather and the like. But they were done hitherto, only as a part of the conventional formula of commercial film-making. Presumably, for the first time in Tamil, we have a commercial flick that is not formula-oriented but genre-focused. Right from the titles till the end, there is no digression. The heartening thing is that a Tamil movie on the gangster theme has nothing to do with the actor's stardom. Ajith's star value is only a bonus to the film. There isn't a single sentence that is out of place; nor a scene that didn't contribute to the narration. The Billa team should be highly commended for utterly avoiding the frivolous aspects of commercial cinema.
Billa 2 comes with a tight script with a single-minded aim to the tell the his/story of a man who eventually becomes a feared gangster. Though it looks a straight-forward plot, its thickness makes it all the more gripping. Eschewing trivialities like dream songs or incongruous scenes or BGM, the film has maintained greater intensity; and the lack of many 'wide angle' (pun unintended) shots added to that intensity.
The most memorable aspects are the stunts and the one-liners. It should be easily said that, for Ajith, these stunts are the never-before-done kind. The moves were fresh and believable with technique reflecting Billa's merciless character. The stunts in the helicopter are nerve-wracking but that should not take the focus away from other refreshing stunt scenes. Added to this, one-liners given to Ajith are sharper than the knives he uses. The lack of verbosity again adds to the sting.
Underplay in Ajith's acting is what makes the film more realistic. The eyes show hardly any emotion apart from a cold desire to do what he does best: kill people who cross his way and make it to the top.
Yuvan's music is fitting. No trumpets blown for Ajith's introduction or fight scenes. He has helped underplay the first-half suiting the plot well. The Billa Theme is heard only towards the end. 'Unakulle Mirugam' captures the mood well. R D Rajasekar's work with the Red Epic camera has worked out well. The tint is maintained well. It gives greater focus on the narration. Visuals for 'Unakulle Mirugam' song are very different and raises Ajith's fans from their seats.
For a change, the ladies have their bit to do than just dance and love the hero. Both Parvathy and Bruno can improve their performances. But their newness shows. The villains' characterization could have been stronger matching Ajith fist for fist.
Though the plot is tight and thick, it is also very flat. Nothing different really happens apart from Billa becoming a Don. It is the same one-way movement of the plot that dulls the edge of narration. Since it is a prequel, it is obvious that Billa eventually becomes a Don. And there was no space in the plot to suggest otherwise. Effort was not taken to break that predictability.
Another major drawback is Ajith's weight. The previous Billa had a slimmer Ajith and it wouldn't be logical to suggest that Billa in the prequel has more weight. (As a fan, I don't mind his weight but as a critic, it doesn't fit in both logically and chronologically) Billa 2 also has a couple of scenes that beats one's sense of logic. When surrounded by armed coastal guards, there are better ingenious ways to escape than just drive the truck past them. The director could have used the richness of the plot to create sharper scenes that all kinds of audiences enjoy.
However, the courage of the film-makers should be commended for willing to sacrifice the winning-formula and depend on realistic narration. If all audiences accept, this would, perhaps, be 'the beginning' (again, pun unintended) of a new commercial formula for action movies in Tamil.

The biggest strength of Billa 2 is undoubtedly its hero. He does his part of looking good whenever he's allowed to, wields his gun in style and delivers the dialogs in his signature style. The film in general lacks pace and drama. The experimental style editing hampers the narrative than improve it. Though the film's not longer than a quarter and two hours Billa's story until his transition takes its own sweet time to unveil itself.
And yet you wish there was more to it than you saw, perhaps a bit more of drama. You comes out feeling his past somehow isn't as gruesome as to make him as dreaded a don as he later becomes, or his circumstances are not as cruel as to win our instant sympathy. Nor are his moves to eliminate his rivals as clever, calculating or cunning as we'd have liked them to be.
David Billa hardly has any fun in life except for that one dance instance. His intimacy with anyone, for that matter even his partner Ranjith played by Yog Jappee, who remains faithful to him throughout, is hardly ever explored.
