Moving away from regular horror, Bollywood is lately warming up to the idea of serving scares with a spot of humour. The horror comedy as a genre is suddenly in vogue among mainstream Hindi filmmakers.

The genre existed in the Hindi film industry for ages -- the old classic "Bhoot Bangla" and recent releases such as "Bhul Bhulaiyaa", "Bhootnath", "Go Goa Gone" and "Stree" come to mind. These films, however, were one-off cases. What is happening now is that Bollywood filmmakers have suddenly taken interest in the genre of horror comedy in a way that it seems like the genre is here to stay. Importantly, the new crop of films serve the funny scares with a new-age spin and a message.

We look at a few horror comedy films that are all set to hit the screens.

Bhoot Police

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam and Arjun Kapoor.

Mumbai, Nov 17 (Ians) Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan is enjoying timeout with husband Saif Ali Khan and son Taimur in Dharamshala, and on Tuesday posted a glimpse of the family vacation on her Instagram handle.

The actress shared two photographs from her walk around the hill station with Taimur riding piggyback on his father.

"Always looking ahead," Kareena wrote with the images, and gave picture credit to actor Arjun Kapoor.

"Joining your entourage... @rohanshrestha job under threat," Arjun commented on the post.

After successfully enticing audience with a host of shows with their video on demand platform Star India's Hotstar has decided on venturing in the content creation zone. In fact we hear that Hotstar has roped in none other than iRock Production's Siddhartha Jain as the creative director for original content. With this appointment Jain, a serial entrepreneur and film producer, will report to Star India digital head Ajit Mohan. Commenting on the same, a source states that Hotstar is hell-bent on continuing its march forward towards development of original content. As for Jain, prior to setting up iRock that produced the Sunny Leone starrer Ragini Mms, Jain was attached with Adlabs Films where he also produced the Salman Khan and Ali Larter starrer Marigold.

After a decent weekend at the box office, Ek Paheli Leela stated reasonably consistent during the weekdays, albeit on the lower side. As a result, the first week collections of the Sunny Leone starrer stand at 24 crore. Though one didn’t expect footfalls to be too high, they could have been better considering the kind of fan following that Sunny Leone enjoys. Also, her last major release Ragini Mms-2 had been a clean hit at the box office and hence something close to the eventual collections (50 crore) seemed to be on cards. As things stand today though, the Bobby Khan directed film would wrap up around the 30 crore mark.

Another release of the week, Dharam Sankat Mein, didn’t score much. The reviews were decent to above average and the word of mouth was far from being the kind that would have brought the film into the ‘must watch’ category.

The second week of Jhalak Dikhala Jaa started off with a bang as Madhuri Dixit entered with a new international judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy from the Us dance reality show Dancing with the Stars. Rickshaw wallahs in Mumbai were excited as Sunny Leone was in Andheri flagging off the rickshaws that will carry special Ragini Mms-2 branding. ‘Ragini ka naya Mms dekha kya?’, ‘Ragini yahaan baithi thi’, ‘Do mein zyaada mazaa hai’ are among the messages that have been plastered across 7000 rickshaws in Mumbai and Delhi. Needless to mention, these will ply across the cities, further accentuating the film’s visibility.

Ragini Mms – 2, the forthcoming horror-erotica film, contains a horror-packed scene shot inside a lake. In fact, there is even a fleeting shot of the said scene in the film’s trailer.

It appears at the point when Sunny’s co-star follows her to a lake hoping to make love to her.

The lake was in Vasai on the outskirts of Mumbai, in a scary and quiet location. The said scene had to be shot at midnight when the water was cold, so as to get the desired effect. Sunny had to dip into the water to give her best shot but was petrified because the lake was quite a walk from her vanity van. There was also talk of water snakes.

The scene took an entire night to shoot and Sunny fell ill the following day and developed a minor skin allergy.
