Edison Carrera, who has extensive live theater experience in his native Ecuador and in the US (Spanish-language plays) was the first choice on the first day of audition for the role of Diego's strict father. Gloria Zelaya and Maria Teresa Silva who are friends and mutual friends of Edison were also the first choices on the first day of audition for the roles of Diego's mother and grandmother, respectively.
