Have you ever wondered how many cameos there were in the first two Sharknado films? Or who the sharks haunted in Ghost Shark? Maybe you’d like to discuss what the best scene is in Killer Klowns From Outer Space? Would you like to know just how big the spider is in Big Ass Spider? Did you recently ask a friend which Japanese dish starts killing people in a film from 2012? Would you like to know if zombies can be vegan? And what exactly is a Stonado?

Jim Wynorski is a legend in the B-movie world, having racked up over 100 directing credits over the course of his 40+ years of working in the entertainment industry. Among those credits are Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, The Return of Swamp Thing, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Ghoulies IV, Demolition High, Piranhaconda, Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, Attack of the 50 Foot CamGirl, and Murderbot – so it’s clear to see why Wynorski was the subject of a documentary back in 2009. The documentary is called Popatopolis, and the folks at Terror Vision have just brought it to Blu-ray for the first time ever! Copies can be ordered at This Link.
Directed by Clay Westervelt, Popatopolis has the following synopsis: Jim Wynorski was the first to cast Traci Lords in mainstream cinema. He directed Heather Locklear in The Return of Swamp Thing. He discovered Jennifer Love Hewitt. Now, the man behind The Bare Wench Project...

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.
Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.
The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

Our latest round up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays is here, with Wes Craven, Creepozoids, Dario Argento and more...
With the DC cinematic universe currently riding high on the coattails of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins’ megahit antidote to the miserablism of messrs Bats and Soops, it would seem churlish to point out that company’s past failures. Things being as they are, though, with the recent release of a camp classic on Blu-ray, it’s time to do precisely that.
The sequel to Wes Craven’s 1982 superhero effort that was more Toxie than Alan Moore, Jim Wynorski’s 1989 adaptation of the tale of scientist turned mutant bog creature Alec Holland, slyly monikered The Return Of Swamp Thing, cranks the ridiculousness dial right up to 'comedy horror' level. When a rogue scientist discovers an immense egg in the dark recesses of a rainforest he thinks hes stumbled across his fame and fortune. But little does he know that it belongs to a terrifying hybrid monster, known only as the Piranhaconda (a moniker only mentioned once in the Entire film and dismissed as a stupid name!). Soon the beast is on the loose, hunting for its unborn child, rampaging through the country and destroying everything in its path in a mass of CGI-enhanced gory-glory.
A killer-creature B-movie from the Roger Corman staple, Piranhaconda is yet another made for Syfy TV movie suprisingly this one comes from director Jim Wynorski, who is well-known in the horror community for successfully mixing T&A and horror.

In his 1960s and ’70s heyday as the king of drive-in flicks and low-budget exploitation, Roger Corman was the single greatest patron of budding talent in the world. The list of filmmakers and actors who either got their start or their big break working for him goes on and on: Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Jonathan Demme, Joe Dante, Francis Ford Coppola, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Peter Bogdanovich, John Sayles, Charles Bronson, Robert Towne.
Alas, Corman has long since traded cheap thrills for pure cheapness. Given that most of his time is now occupied with Syfy monster movies like Piranhaconda, Sharktopus Vs. Pteracuda, and Dinocroc Vs. Supergator, a sequel to 1975’s sleazy, tongue-in-cheek Death Race 2000 might sound like a partial return to form.
The original, directed by the under-appreciated Paul Bartel (Eating Raoul), had one of the ‘70s Corman’s trademark cocktails of talent: a cast led by ...

If you thought it was only studios like The Asylum who were cranking out giant sea creature flicks for Syfy you’d be completely wrong – Roger Corman and his New Horizon Pictures are still producing the kind of cheap and cheerful monster movies that Corman made his name with to this day. Only unlike The Asylum, Corman and co. don’t seem to want to keep to just giant monsters… Instead they’ve cross-bred their monsters as time has gone on – no longer are they satisfied with plain-old Supergator, their first giant creature flick; nope they’ve brought us the crazy combos of Dinoshark, Dinocroc (who took on Supergator in 2010), Piranhaconda; and their craziest giant killer creature combination, Sharktopus.

Seriously. Do I have to lay out the plot of a film called Zombeavers? It features zombie beavers. What else do you need to know? Oh well, here goes: Three college friends decide to spend the weekend at a riverside cabin in the woods, man free, after one of the trio splits up with her boyfriend. However the boys see things differently and invite themselves on the trip in the hopes of having a debauched weekend filled with sex and booze. Little do the group know, they are right next door to a lodge of beavers who have been mutated, by an accidental toxic waste spill, into rabid zombeavers.
See, did I really need to explain that? Kids go woods. Kids get dead.

Brian Pulido, creator of the comic Lady Death and the feature film The Graves, is set to appear on Syfy’s "Foxy and Co.," a reality show showcasing the special effects makeup work of "Face Off" favorite Eric Fox and his team, tonight, March 18th, at 10Pm.
For the show Pulido directed a proof of concept short film entitled Zack the Zombie Exterminator, a horror/comedy about Zack Zander, an amiable redneck metal head with a talent for zombie-splatting who runs “Z-Gone", a family business that “disposes” of the undead.
Pulido and screenwriter Mike MacLean (Sharktopus, Piranhaconda) developed Zack for multiple entertainment platforms.
Simply stated, Zack the Zombie Exterminator puts the fun back into zombie-splatting. Zack is a gross-out spectacle full of zombie guts and exploding brains. It’s slapstick Wtf humor, cringe-worthy and cathartic, and what better guy to fulfill this mad vision than Morbx Fx’s Eric Fox,...

If you've looking for a movie that has one character shouting "That is exactly what the beavers would want!" at another, you're in so much luck. Today brings you the trailer for... Zombeavers. Click on the YouTubes for a closer look at the gnashery nastiness. Billed as this year's Sharknado, the so-bad-we-thought-it-might-be-good-but-it-was-actually-just-really-bad Z-movie, Zombeavers is the spoofy handiwork of director Jordan Rubin, a Carson Daly Show alumnus, and screenwriters Al and Jon Kaplan. A cursory glance at their CVs finds the amazing-sounding Piranhaconda and Dinocroc Vs. Supergator, and this one extends the silliness to a cabin filled with randy students and a dam filled with hell rodents. No word on a likely UK release date for this one but it has a tagline - 'You'll all be damned' - that alone makes it worthy of the widest possible release.

Zombies, vampires and werewolves, oh my! Classic monsters are always a good way for horror filmmakers to go, but sometimes we see more... unique... beasties on the screen. And when they go well (and even when they don't), they're some of the most memorable characters in the genre.
In celebration of the Irish sci-fi comedy film Grabbers, which hit VOD and other digital outlets on July 19 and contains some pretty wild monsters of its own, we've compiled a list of Horror's Top 13 Craziest Monsters!
As always, we'd like to start out with some honorable mentions. Slither and its old school relative Night of the Creeps both gave us a swarm of memorable leech-like monsters. The Host dropped us into an unexpected nightmare on a typical South Korean afternoon with a very unique movie monster. For similar reasons to why budget-stretching pioneer Roger Corman recently produced schlock called Piranhaconda and Dinoshark (but not that ripoff Sharknado), director-producer Florian Steinbiss's German-set, largely German-cast comedy mixes genres with all the quality control of a fourth-grader dispensing every soda flavor into one cup. Co-starring as a professor and father, Steinbiss—who apparently grew up near the original Neander Valley fossil discovery—has no budget and even fewer laughs. Stiltedly filmed in English, Neander-Jin depicts the inexplicable modern-day materialization of a colossal-browed subspecies time-traveler (Jon Chardiet). There are broad, lazy bits about huckster opportunism, an activist beauty who loves the beast philanth...

Did you binge-watch Arrested Development yesterday and now you need more? Let’s hope Buzzfeed‘s ranking of the its 30 favorite guest stars does the trick.

I’m tempted to pull out that old “our long national nightmare is over” joke with the news that Fox reality TV executive Mike Darnell has quit at Fox, as initially reported by Deadline. Darnell has been at Fox for 19 years, which pre-dates the rise of reality TV and his early days include specials like When Animals Attack! and Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire?. ★☆☆☆☆ Over seven decades since he first began making his name with the kind of fun, Z-grade schlock this film falls way short in replicating, executive producer Roger Corman unleashes yet another atrocious monster mash-up for the SyFy channel, Piranhaconda (2011) which makes its debut over here on DVD. Michael Madsen is intrepid, bandana-sporting scientist Professor Lovegrove, trekking through the wilds of Hawaii in pursuit of a mythical creature known as the 'River Devil'. Discovering a nest of eggs belonging to said creature, his team is wiped out by the 60ft snake/fish hybrid, which also sets its hungry sights on the crew of a horror film shooting nearby.

The meanest gargantuan creature-feature yet is set to arrive on DVD from Chelsea Films on 7th January 2013 – I am of course talking about the Roger Corman-produced Piranhaconda. To celebrate this occasion we have an extra special *Monstrous* prize package to give-away which consists of the following monster delights:
Sand Sharks - A shark that swims in sand?! No, honestly! Sunbathing on a beach has never been the same since this came out earlier this year and I’m not sure whether that’s something to do with the sharks or Brooke Hogan’s (daughter of the mighty Hulk Hogan) acting… Sand Sharks Review
Dragon Wasps - The ultimate cross breed between timely jungle thrillers like “Predator” and “Anaconda” and giant critter delights such as “Eight Legged Freaks” and “Lake Placid”. Let’s put it this way, “Dragon Wasps” does for bees what “Arachnophobia” did for spiders! Dragon Wasps Review

The master of low-budget cinema, Roger Corman, is returning to the works of Poe, with new adaptations on the way...
A Bucket Of Blood or The Little Shop Of Horrors aside, our favourite Roger Corman movies are undoubtedly his extraordinary adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe. Beginning with House Of Usher in 1960, these movies often played fast-and loose with their source stories, and were often shot rapidly, but they also saw Corman at the height of his creative powers. Their saturated colours influenced horror for years afterwards, and usually featured some great, glowering performances from Vincent Price.
Although Corman has focused his energies on a rather different cycle of mutant monster pictures (Sharktopus, Piranhaconda and the like), The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he's returning his attention back to the master of the macabre, with a new series of movies based on the works of Poe.

Stars: Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Shandi Finnessey, Terri Ivens, Rib Hillis, Angie Savage, Chris De Christopher, Kurt Yaeger, Noah Blake | Written by J. Brad Wilke, Mike MacLean | Directed by Jim Wynorski
When a rogue scientist discovers an immense egg in the dark recesses of a rainforest he thinks he’s stumbled across his fame and fortune.

Piranha not got enough twists and turns for you? Anaconda lacking the requisite bite? Well, why not have the best of both worlds? From Mike MacLean, the writer of Sharktopus (Jaws not tentacley enough... etc.), and with Hollywood exploitation legend Roger Corman behind it, comes Piranhaconda. Somehow the movie passed us by when it aired on Syfy in June, but all 82 glorious minutes are coming to DVD on January 7, 2013. The film is directed by Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall, Camel Spiders) and stars Quentin Tarantino's Mr Blonde, Michael Madsen, fresh from Celebrity Big Brother. Joining Madsen is Rachel Hunter (The Benchwarmers) and MacLean's Sharktopus veteran Shandi Finnessey. Rounding out the cast is Rib Hillis, who you might have seen on Two and a Half Men and CSI Miami. The plot (more)...

Unfortunately our own Stephanie Ogrodnik was unable to attend the Sdcc panel on Corman's latest production due to the egregious lines at the Hollywood-run convention, so instead, we've got you the poster! Corman's first ever 3d film is a quasi-remake of the horrendous 1958 film, and a quasi-remake-remake of the 1993 remake which starred Darryl Hannah. While I'm sure this will be as equally terrible, it's Kevin O'Neill's first feature, and he's done special effects on lots of big films, including the Pulse Franchise. It's also written by Mike MacLean, the man who penned Dinocroc vs Supergator, Sharktopus, and Piranhaconda. And, it's Corman .. we gotta support The Man. You can watch the incredibly sad trailer for the 1958 version below. [Continued ...]...

Provincetown, Mass. – Trashmeister John Waters and King of the B's Roger Corman were a match made in cult-movie heaven at the 14th annual Provincetown International Film Festival, which wrapped Sunday. Prior to presenting Corman with the festival’s Filmmaker on the Edge Award, Waters conducted an entertaining onstage Q&A with the pioneering independent producer-director-distributor, gleefully throwing in a plug for Piranhaconda. That latest Corman-produced monster opus premiered over the weekend on SyFy. There are few greater things in life than a Jim Wynorski movie. When a person chooses to completely disengage his or her brain from the stresses of reality, the wonky cinematic endeavors from one of the most prolific filmmakers on the planet make for nifty companions. If approached with your disbelief suspended, bound, gagged, and tucked in the toilet, Wynorski’s movies are endlessly enjoyable. His upcoming SyFy original creature feature “Piranhaconda” looks to be one of his more enjoyable efforts, and should fit in nicely with the network’s endless supply of low-budget monster movies. This official synopsis should help set the stage: Part fish! Part snake! All killer! In B-movie icon Roger Corman’s latest, a hybrid creature – half piranha and half anaconda — attacks a movie crew on location near her nest when her egg is stolen. Now they must outrun and kill the deadly piranhaconda as well...

The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.
The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh.

I love Jim Wynorski. The guy cranks out movies the way I crank out bowel movements: one, maybe two per hour. On a good day. I would love to see what he could do with $100 million and a studio willing to let him produce whatever he wanted, but I doubt that’s going to happen anytime this century. Until then, I’ll make due with stuff like “Piranhaconda”, a film that delivers everything Wynorski’s fans have come to expect from the guy: curvy women, low-budget effects, and a feeling of reckless abandon that few filmmakers bring to their work. His movies are brain-rotting junk food, nothing more, and that’s exactly why I watch them. Here’s the synopsis for the flick: Who cares? It’s called “Piranhaconda”, for crying out loud. I think you can figure this one out on your own. The trailer in all its glory(?) resides below.

Piranhaconda... Legendary producer Roger Corman, b-movie impresario Jim Wynorski, and Syfy have birthed a half-anaconda/half-piranha monstrosity. Will it be the heir apparent to Sharktopus? See for yourself.
Michael Madsen (Sin City) and Rachel Hunter (Swamp Volcano) star in this Syfy creature feature about a low-budget horror movie crew, inept kidnappers, and a reptile expert all on the smorgasbord for a ravenous anaconda/piranha hybrid slithering loose in Hawaii.
Distributor American World Pictures has unveiled the trailer for Piranhaconda today. If there’s an aspect about it I find disappointing from watching the trailer, it’s that the Piranhaconda just looks to be a funky looking giant snake that slithers around chomping people and doesn’t appear to make much use of its aquatic or crushing abilities the same way Sharktopus capitalized on the notice of a predatory shark with octopus tentacles. Regardless, it looks like it could be goofy fun.
