I am a fan of both Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. So when I heard that they were collaborating to make a stoner comedy I was excited. But unfortunately (in my opinion) this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Here's some reasons why I think this.
The first problem is at the beginning of the movie, when we're introduced to "Slow Burn". A poorly animated cartoon joint that, really, looks like a white banana. Slow Burn delivers some of the dumbest and unfunny dialogue I've ever heard. Slow Burn then proceeds to tell us that we have to get high to enjoy this movie. Now, it's no lie that weed makes some terrible movies more enjoyable. But relying on the intoxication of your audience for a films enjoyment is pathetic.
The next issue came when I began to uncover what the overall plot was. A cool kid helps a nerdy kid become cool. This story has been reused 1000 times over. When put into the right hands, this plot could possibly become effective, but usually this is not the case.
Now I could be wrong about this, but, while watching, it seemed that the overall point of the movie was to sell music. When you make a movie specifically to sell something or some things ("Jack and Jill") it will usually not turn out well. Especially when it's obvious.
I could go in depth about how bad the acting was or how flat the jokes fell, but I'm not trying to write a book. Which is sad because this is a movie that I've been anticipating as a fan of Wiz and Snoop, and a fan of stoner comedies. But good stoner comedies have good characters that you like and care for. I could care less if Mac & Devin don't graduate (or for that matter DIE).

Before the movie started the audience are told to smoke some weed because you supposedly can't watch the film without being high. Well let's just say I don't have the best access to it so I watched sober. The movie is probably right. I thought the movie was quite boring and the relief being that it was very short and had Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa in it. The movie is sort of like watching weed porn in a lot of ways. Since half of the movie is showing Wiz and Snoop or their friends getting high in all the different ways. The plot does not have a lot of substance to it and ultimately this movie probably is only for when your high. If your not high, you probably shouldn't watch it. There are some moments that are pretty funny though even if your not high which broke some of the disinterest. I didn't think this movie was terrible, but it wasn't good either for me personally.

Cheech & Chong for the 2012 generation, tries to capture the Kid'N Play feeling from the 80's but fails, just a film to advertise the use of "smoke" as a way of life. Snoop has no acting abilities and it shows, the whole cast seems to be a sycophantic group hell bent on pleasing their leader. Film clearly a platform to "sell" the soundtrack, which like the film has predictable lyrics and strives to be "contraversal" in it's message, but is about 50 years to late (Hendrix, Joplin, Jim Morrison etc etc etc) told us to tune in and drop out far more eloquently.Sadly this is purely a commercial venture, those that will watch it and will promote It, will do so just because they think that they are "stickin it to DA man"

I normally don't write reviews, but I felt compelled to write one after being highly disappointed with the outcome of this movie. Being originally from Pittsburgh, I was exposed to Wiz Khalifa when he was just an underground mix tape artist. The moment I heard him and Snoop were doing a movie, I was dying to see what type of film they would put together. I knew it wasn't going to be a Oscar nominee, but I was excited to see it for what it was, a stoner movie. I anticipated it to be a movie like How High mixed with a little bit of Superbad. The movie starts out with a cartoon clip of this character slow burn who at first seems like a good addition to the movie. He tells you to smoke some weed before the movie because, well lets face it, you cannot watch this movie sober (it's that bad). At various points, slow burn stops the movie to say some irrelevant things that seems like they are just there to fill up some space. It really bothered me, it is like when you are trying to watch a movie and someone keeps trying to talk to you, it really messed with the flow of the story (if you can even call it a story). Also, the movie was stopped multiple times for Mac and Devin to preform full length songs, which also seems like it was there to just fill up space. It would have been less irritating if the videos were placed at the end of the movie or added into the special features. The movie didn't have a smooth flow or an actual plot line. The story was a recycled script that was generic and vanilla. I know it's a movie, but it still has to be some what realistic. I couldn't take Snoop seriously as a 15 year senior, it just wasn't logical. I laughed a few times, but only because of the stony persona they both have and because I'm a long time fan of both the artists (also i was a little spacey). The movie was pushed back multiple times and it seems like they knew it was going to be bad, but they just hyped it up so that people would buy it. I wouldn't consider it a movie. Maybe if they posted it on YouTube or made it for TV then I would not have been as upset with it. Thank God I torrented it and didn't pay actual money for it. At the end of it, I was scratching my head thinking....how in the world did this movie get made? This is coming from a fan, I wanted to like the movie, but I just could NOT enjoy it
.that's saying something. It seemed short and the ending didn't feel like a real ending. I don't care if it was low budget, that is no excuse. Wiz and Snoop should stick to what they know best, making music and smoking weed. Films are definitely not their thing. The soundtrack is great though!
Let me begin by stating that, despite the suggestions of the poorly animated talking blunt in the beginning of the movie (no, seriously), I was not high when I watched Mac and Devin Go to High School. Unfortunately, you would have to be stoned out of your mind to find anything in this movie even remotely funny, and so I sat through the most grueling and painful movie experience I've ever had the extreme displeasure to be subjected to.
In plain terms, there is a very real possibility that this is the single worst movie ever made.
But hey- I haven't seen every movie ever. There is a (small) chance someone managed to make something worse. I just doubt it. Every aspect is just so... stupid. The jokes would be funnier if you tried to make stupid jokes. The music is a sad attempt at a washed-up, has-been rapper to remain relevant.
But by far the worst thing is the plot. Presumably, Snoop and Wiz payed a small fortune to a group of preteen boys who just discovered weed, curse words, and girls (in the same ten-minute span) to write the first draft, forced at gunpoint a single homeless man strung out on crack to edit it, and then gave it back to the preteens for the final script.
Yes, this movie was low budget. But why? Could Snoop Dog, easily one of the most successful rappers of all time, not get a real producer? Hire someone with a tiny sliver of talent to do the effects? Hire an actor who could actually act? No. Because no self-respecting person would have anything to do with this movie. In an industry that would buy almost any script, no one would invest a nickel in this movie. It would be so much easier to just tie their career to a post and shoot it.
If you like extremely stupid pot jokes, incredible headaches, vast stretches of mind-numbing boredom, and watching a 40-year-old man pretending to be a high school-er, knock yourself out. Also, please get out of the gene pool before you manage to make humanity even worse.
But if you have even a tiny shred of self respect and/or an IQ over 7, please, just walk away. If you really, really just want to watch a terrible movie, go watch The Room. At least The Room is so awful it's funny.

At the start of the movie they are warning you that you can't watch this movie without being high. That part was true, and I should have listened.
Though I seriously doubt that being high would help, and even if it did, why not watch an actually fun movie while being high? Twice the pleasure.

Mac & Devin Go to High School is a pretty decent movie for the marijuana enthusiasts out there. Of course, any stoner movie with Snoop with a guaranteed good time. It was also cool seeing Wiz Khalifa as the nerd coming out of his shell. The movie was not made exceptionally well, and could even be deemed amateurish. But it was definitely fun to watch. I was high-ly recommend it!

I think a lot of the other reviewers missed the point of this movie... the mediocrity is what makes this movie good. The jokes are dumb and the movie plays bad stereotypes and that's why it's funny! This movie isn't about character development or conflict... its ridiculous and just for fun. The fact that we have "slow burnin" the animated joint chiming in at random points in the movie just adds to the ridiculousness. Honestly if you look at the cover and saw that you were going to watch a movie where 40 year old snoop dogg is playing a high schooler of the same age who just hasn't graduated yet, you should expect what you're about to watch.
This is the kind of movie you watch when you want to just relax and watch some low class comedy. Invite some people over, talk through the movie, drink or whatever, and just enjoy something stupid for a while.

Being a fan of the Mac and Devin Album I found the movie to be entertaining. Whilst I found many of the reviews on this site to be rather misinformed or misleading. First off Wiz's acting wasn't up to par because let's face it he's a rapper not an actor, contrary to popular belief not all entertainers can make that transition into a different medium. Considering the circumstances, his first time on screen, I think Wiz did great and if that were something he would want to continue to do it would take work and time. While some of the reviewers found Snoop's acting a little dry I would have to disagree. But with awards and even more nominations Snoop has already proved himself to be a successful actor. Check the facts, it's not up for debate.
I can't stand the comparisons to "How High" or as one reviewer even went as far as"Superbad". As far as low budget films go it was pretty good. The "movie" was an hour long, more like a TV special if you ask me, so any comparisons to a higher budgeted feature film just seems unfair. If you didn't enjoy the film because of their promotion of weed culture Im sorry to say its Wiz and Snoop. What did you expect? I found some of the jokes to be corny, predicable, or unfunny while I found myself dying from laughter at times. I could have honestly done without Andy Milonakis character.
To those of you that didn't enjoy the musical breaks in-between scenes, I regret to inform you that the movie was adapted from the concept of a collab album, not the other way around. You would really have to be a fan of the music and the album to truly enjoy the film. The film wasn't meant to sell an album that was released almost a year ago, nor was it meant to be an extended music video to songs they already have videos for. It was made to go that extra mile and give a little extra to the fans and they succeeded in that delivery.

This has got to be the most awful movie I've ever seen, the acting is terribly stupid and poorly acted, it just looks like a low budget high school movie done in drama class, they should of done screen tests be horse casting such terrible actors.this movie will put me yo sleep if I carry on watching it. A very backward movie and terrible acting.

Well, here is the one guy that actually liked watching "Soul Plane", so I also was quite into the humor of this movie at first. However about halfway through this movie started to go downhill very fast.
As the start of the movie literally tells you; in order to enjoy and appreciate this movie you really first need to smoke some weed. Now I am not saying you should take drugs before watching this movie but it should tell you something about the movie its style and type of humor. If this doesn't sound fun or appealing at all to you, then simply stay away from this movie and never even come close to it.
The comedy of the movie is quite random at times and very often has nothing to do with the movie and its main story at all. I seriously don't mind this, since most of it really cracked me up. It however starts to become tiresome after a while, especially when it becomes apparent that the movie isn't going anywhere anymore with its story and is completely starting to loose focus after some time.
There comes a point, about halfway through the movie, that it becomes too much of a drugs movie. Seriously, every characters starts doing drugs (well, only marijuana) and only good things come from it, all the time. Not that this movie is necessarily a pro-drugs movie though, it's just far too silly for that of course but in parts it's actually still advocating for legalizing and using marijuana but this movie is of course not the best way to do so and isn't exactly setting the right example for any youngsters out there, though Snoop himself will probably disagree with me on this.
The way I see it; every now and then Snoop Dogg decides to have some fun and call a couple of friends to make a movie with. Nothing too fancy or expensive, just a simple movie to make, to pass some time with and to have a great and fun time while shooting. This for most part can be seen back on the screen, which is a positive thing to say, since it makes the movie a really fun one to watch at parts but the quality and money put into is all far too little to truly consider this a good enough movie, or even to take it serious enough as one.
Snoop Dogg is actually also the reason why I sometimes watch these kind of movies. I really like him as a person and actor and his personality and comedic style always makes me laugh and smile. He also definitely is being the highlight of this movie. Without him I would had most likely absolutely hated watching it.
Not a good movie by any means but I at least still got some laughs out of it. Thanks Snoop!

This movie is only good if your high, don't expect it to be more than that. Don't watch it unless your high. If you can't get high, then don't watch it. This movie does not make sense unless your high. When high, this movie is a very cool, trippy and fun show to watch!
bad acting, bad cgi, bad storyline
only saving grace for this movie is Teairra Mari's smoking hot body, awesome tits by Carla Howe, oh and the end credits reel. why a person needs to be smoked up to enjoy a movie is totally - well to paraphrase another review - is pathetic. Smoking weed would allow a person to see how crap the movie actually is.
i love Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, but this is nothing more than a platform to promote 1 awesome song. so what we get drunk, so what we smoke weed... thanks for that, now i can no longer enjoy the song without thinking about this bad movie

This movie is just a lot of fun
It literally starts off with a talking joint giving you the instructions of how to watch the movie. It makes the comparison of watching this movie sober to watching a 3D movie without the glasses; you need to be high. And in a way it does make sense that reviewing this movie after a sober watch wouldn't be doing it justice, since that wasn't what it's intended for either.
So right off the bat you know the movie isn't taking itself too seriously, and so shouldn't you. The mere concept of two of the world's most (in)famous stoners as protagonists in a high school-movie is already entertaining, and on top of that the performances weren't too bad either! In a fun way you can see the difference between your average actor, whose acting-classes for "realistic acting" can almost be seen leaking out of their nose, to the point that it's not realistic anymore, with Wiz and Snoop, who are so much the polar opposite to that mentality, thus making them more realistic as characters. I'm making it sound worse than it is actually, as this difference is one of the movies' charms aswell, painting Mac and Devin as the good guys they intend to be.
On top of that, this movie is quite hilarious in its meta humour, of the joint coming in once in a while (and actually even giving useful information). It's got the right amount of laughs, right amount of music (kind of making it feel like a parody of both high-school movies and musicals), and it's self-aware enough to not feel awkward, but also not too self-aware, to the point that it'd become irritating.
All in all this movie is a great time, made by people who know really well what they wanted to make and definitely succeeded. Just don't watch it sober ;)

I was very disappointed with this movie. With the great cast , it had potential to be an excellent movie. 50% of the movie was about weed and the other 50% was comedy. The comedy bit was alright, although it was not all funny. It was generally a stoner film. If you weren't getting high while watching it, its pretty boring . The comedy is also targeted for a small audience.Unless your prepared to watch an hour of Snoop dogg an Wiz Khalifa pretending to get high ( and probably getting high ) , don't watch this movie unless you are high.

Absolutely one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong I like bad stoner movies.I love them in fact. I even love Mystery Science Theater 3000 so I've seen some pretty horrible movies. But, this movie is worse than "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau. At least "The Room" is unintentionally funny.
