A young man is disenchanted with the false Japanese ambiance and cuisine where he works, quits and opts to make his dream come true by finally joining a traditional establishment. Things are not as simple as they appear however and he soon quits. Still, he attends a cooking contest where his now former employer is in competition and finds out there is more to the young woman than he knew.

The proprietress for the traditional restaurant receives a surprise visit from her mother who was the original manager for the establishment. The task for the day is to make their own proprietary and sublime miso and so the staff band together to make the best product possible. This also becomes the catalyst for mending a husband's and wife's relationship.

A man exacts revenge for being unfairly maligned and fired from a job years ago by sticking Yoshio with his dinner bill. Turns out the man knows of the restaurant Yoshio works at and is a former employee himself. He is also quite handy with a knife. The proprietress learns of the story and is intrigued by who the man is and why he was let go. She seeks to find out more.

The staff receive tips and decided to spend it on trip to a restaurant. They are briefly joined by a generous stranger. The same man visits their establishment the day after and reveals himself as a businessman in charge of expansions at a new mall. He asks the owner to consider opening a second location at the mall in order to feed more people, increase brand awareness and secure the restaurant's financial future.

An earthquake hits the region and there is some damage. A neighbouring house is the subject for a debate between renovation or reconstruction and an allegory for the conflict between the old and the new or the young and the old. Osen decides to serve a high-end and traditional meal at a surprisingly cheap price.

Osen is set up for a date as a prelude for an arranged marriage and accepts - inadvertently, but nonetheless. The man is an associate professor and quite a gourmand himself. The two hit it off, but the staff is not quite as giddy as Osen is. The staff members aim to find out more about their boss' romantic inklings. The would-be groom is served at the restaurant. He receives personalized chopsticks as well.

While drinking outside Tome decides to help in a jiffy and inevitably impresses with his cooking skills, as well as willingness to help. Unfortunately, the evening works against him when it is determined that he has placed his place of employment's reputation in jeopardy. He atones by resigning. The restaurant is short-handed now.

A reunion connects two old class-mates, but when the friend blogs about a hidden menu item its popularity leads to both a revenue shortfall and the restaurant running out of ingredients for its part at a festival. The rice supplier cannot help and there is no supply or delivery of straws needed for cooking. The team is running out of options.

Upon visiting a supplier Okami finds out that their usual product is unavailable and not returning either. The product is f high quality and there is not any demand any longer. She becomes cross and visits the seaside factory only to learn of a business in debt and the intention to sell to a corporation, No other supplier's product is as good however.

As if the potential of a trusted and unique supplier going out of business was not enough, Isshouan itself is suddenly faced with a lack of a line-of-credit, which means they will have to shut down as well. A nefarious corporation's greed is at work. The staff have to work things out including keeping the memories of their restaurant and craft in their minds only.
