This detail is barely mentioned in the marketing, though it is adapted from the same book that the classic 1968 horror movie is based on as well. Julia Garner’s new home is not quite what she expected in the first trailer for Paramount+’s Rosemary’s Baby prequel feature, Apartment 7A.

The psychological horror movie from director Natalie Erika James hits the streaming service and digital VOD on Sept. 27. The cast includes Dianne Wiest, Kevin McNally, Jim Sturgess, Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

Apartment 7A focuses on Terry Gionoffrio (Garner), an aspiring dancer in New York City who suffers an injury and moves into a luxury apartment building called the Bramford with an affluent couple (Wiest and McNally). After a Broadway producer (Sturgess) offers her a path to fame, Terry has an evening she can’t quite remember and suspects that something evil inhabits her apartment and the building itself.

“There’s something wrong with these people,” Garner says ominously in the trailer that shows her character’s concerns mounting.

From Universal and Blumhouse, Whannell’s Wolf Man will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025, and the very first teaser is now on display at Universal Orlando.

While the park gets ready for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights takeover, Inside Universal has shared the Wolf Man promo art that is currently on display outside the Fanta Bar at Lombard’s Seafood Grille. It’s been a year and a half since we learned that Universal’s planned Madonna had been scrapped. The original plan saw Juno writer Diablo Cody pen a script that would be directed by Madonna herself. Although the music legend has directed in her time, this was still a pretty unconventional arrangement.

Olivia Colman and John Lithgow head the cast of “Jimpa,” a multi-generational family tale involving a nonbinary teenager and her mother who take a trip to see their gay grandfather. The Australia- and Europe-set film is directed by Sophie Hyde, whose most recent film was the breakout “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.”

The film is now in its third week of production in Amsterdam and will later shoot in Adelaide, Australia and Helsinki, Finland.

Rights to the film are being handled by Protagonist Pictures in much of the world and by CAA Media Finance in North America, with sales kicking off at the Cannes Market next week. The film has already locked in Cineart as distributor in the Benelux region and Kismet and The Unquiet Collective for Australia and New Zealand.

Oscar winner Colman’s recent credits include “The Favourite,” “The Lost Daughter” and the hit Netflix series “The Crown.

Olivia Colman and John Lithgow are leading Jimpa, a movie about a trans non-binary teenager visiting their gay grandfather from Sophie Hyde, with Protagonist Pictures launching international sales at Cannes.

Filming on Jimpa has entered its third week in Amsterdam and a first-look image can be seen above.

The pic follows Hannah (Colman), a mother who takes her trans non-binary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to Amsterdam to visit their gay grandfather Jimpa (Lithgow). But Frances’ desire to stay with Jimpa for a year abroad means Hannah is forced to re-consider her beliefs about parenting and finally confront old stories about the past.

Julia Garner has been announced as the leading name in the ensemble for Zach Cregger’s soon-to-shoot horror project, Weapons.

We first learned about the film around a year ago when it became the subject of a heated bidding war. Cregger was coming of the back of 2022’s Barbarian, one of the buzziest horror films of that year. Barbarian didn’t just announce an exciting new voice in the horror genre, it also performed commercially earning $45m worldwide, amounting to around ten times its production budget.

With horror being seen as one of the only remaining genres to reliably pull audiences into cinemas, the success of Cregger’s film saw several studios keen to secure his future services. New Line CInema duly won out and around a year ago, the filmmaker’s next feature was announced.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Barbarian, released via 20th Century Studios, opened at No. 1 after pulling in a 93% Rotten Tomatoes critics score. The pic grossed 10 times its production budget of $4.5 million totaling more than $45M worldwide.

But before you can reach for your podcast mic and shout about how producers are ruining movies by making them all woke, please note that a female version of the Silver Surfer, known as Shalla-Bal, does exist in various splinters of the comics’ multiverse. Whether or not director Matt Shakman, whose television credits include zany shows like “You’re The Worst” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” as well as “WandaVision,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will have the sand to include a moment in which Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm serenades Shalla-Bal with a rendition of the Beach Boys’s “Surfer Girl” remains to be seen.

For a long time, there were lots of questions about which four actors would be lined up to fill the iconic blue onesies worn by the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s family of superheroes due to make their MCU debut next summer. Matt Shakman, the mind behind Marvel Studios’ WandaVision is directing the project, which might just relaunch the MCU as ‘must watch’ moviegoing following two or three years where over-saturation and questionable levels of quality control have seen the films and TV shows dip in popularity.

Back in February that casting would be confirmed and much like the studio’s choice of director, there was a feeling of real promise regarding the actors that had been selected to embody one of Marvel’s most iconic set of characters.

After seemingly eons of rumours, Marvel recently finally unveiled its official cast for the new, MCU take on the Fantastic Four. And now we know who will be joining leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn in the cast. That person is Julia Garner, who will bring the Silver Surfer to life.

"But Empire," we hear some of you prepared to argue, "I think you'll find the Silver Surfer is Norrin Radd, as portrayed by Doug Jones in the 2007 Rise Of The Silver Surfer film." And you would be right… from a certain point of view. But comic book variants are many and, well, varied, and there is a character named Shalla-Bal, a woman who was a love interest for Radd, and ended up taking over the mantle of the Surfer.

The title of Molly Manning Walker’s feature-length directorial debut seems to promise a self-help guide to navigating the knotty ins and outs of physical desire. And given how it starts, with ready-to-party besties Tara (Mia McKenna-Bruce), Skye (Lara Peake), and Em (Enva Lewis) touching down in the coastal town of Malia in Crete, Greece, for their first holiday abroad, one might also anticipate that a redux of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers is afoot.

Writer-director Manning Walker, though, has cooked up something far less ironic and fragmentary with How to Have Sex, though like Korine’s film, it’s interested in how the prospect of hardcore partying doesn’t transform from fantasy into nightmare in a flash. Rather, it oscillates from one to the other simultaneously, creating a gradual, narcotizing effect that makes sorting out one’s emotions, especially when they’re being newly felt, next to impossible.

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this one to come together, but the pieces finally seem to be falling into place for a new version of Wolf Man at Universal. What’s more, with each new nugget of information, things look more and more promising for the project.

All the way back in 2021, we heard that a new take on Universal’s werewolf character was coming, with Leigh Whannell, director of The Invisible Man in the director’s chair. However, a year later, Ryan Gosling was in the title role and Whannell was out, replaced by regular Gosling collaborator, Derek Cianfrance.

The movie reunites Julia — playing a mother whose family is being terrorised by a lethal predator — with Christopher Abbott, with whom she starred in 2011’s ‘Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene’, her first professional acting role, reports Variety.

Since then, Julia has gone on to become a major player in both film and television, winning three Emmy awards for her standout performance as Ruth Langmore in ‘Ozark’, and garnering multiple nominations for her portrayal of real-life con artist Anna Delvey in Shonda Rhimes’ limited series ‘Inventing Anna’.

As per Variety, in the film, Julia earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her impressive lead turn in Kitty Green’s ‘The Assistant’. Last year, the pair teamed up again for another critically acclaimed feature, ‘The Royal Hotel’, which Julia also produced through her Alma Margo production banner.

Guy Pearce has recently wrapped production on “Inside,” an Australian crime thriller and coming of age drama film. The picture is the debut feature of Charles Williams, whose short film “All These Creatures” won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

The story sees after a young man transferred from juvenile to adult prison, where he is taken under the wing of both Australia’s most despised criminal, and a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. A paternal triangle grows between them, suggesting that even the worst of men may have a little bit of good inside them — that will be their eventual undoing.

UK-based sales agency Film Republic has boarded world sales rights on Sweet Sorrow, the latest film from Serbian director Kosta Djordjevic.

Sweet Sorrow will have its world premiere this Sunday (November 5) in Just Film, the youth-focused section of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Poff).

The film centres on an angsty teenager who takes on organising his grandmother’s funeral, when he realises that doing so could win the affections of his crush.

Production expenditure on scripted screen production in Australia in 2022/23 was the second highest on record at $1.49Bn (A$2.34Bn) across 213 titles, according to Screen Australia’s annual drama report, but spend on Australian theatrical features declined by 54% from last year.

Spend on scripted screen production was down 4% on last year’s record expenditure but was still significantly above the five-year average, the report found. Australian titles made up $718M (A$1.13Bn) of that expenditure with decreases in spending by Australian subscription TV and SVOD services.

However Free-to-Air (Fta) TV and Broadcaster Video-On-Demand (Bvod) providers helped offset those declines with spend on titles such as Total Control Series 3, Rfds Series 2 and While The Men Are Away.
