Given the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2022 Thai horror/thriller "Cracked", of course I did exactly that, as I do enjoy Asian horror cinema. Sure, I had not heard about this movie from director Surapong Ploensang before sitting down to watch it, so I wasn't sure what I was in for here.
The storyline in "Cracked" was pretty straight forward. It was actually a somewhat generic storyline, where writers Eakasit Thairaat, Onusa Donsawai, Pun Homchuen and Surapong Ploensang only managed to churn out a somewhat bland storyline. Don't get me wrong, because it wasn't a bad movie or bad storyline. It just didn't pack enough punch to be impressive, and for a seasoned horror veteran such as myself, then the storyline was just lacking key elements and ingredients to be impressive. But hey, for newcomers to the Thai horror scene, then I believe that "Cracked" will be a sufficiently dark and scary movie.
Visually then "Cracked" was a sufficiently interesting movie. I liked the visual effects and the way that they made use of jump scares and such. Sure, it was somewhat generic, but it worked well enough for this particular movie.
The acting performances in "Cracked" were good. I can't claim that I was familiar with the cast ensemble here, but they did good enough jobs with their given roles, characters and dialogue.
All in all, then "Cracked" was a mediocre Thai horror/thriller experience for me. Sure, it was watchable for what it was, but this is hardly a Thai horror/thriller that I would recommend as a must-watch for fans of the Thai horror genre. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.
My rating of "Cracked" lands on a mediocre five out of ten stars.
