To quote the Smiths, fame fame fatale fame, it can play hideous tricks on the brain. That’s what’s happening in the album-opening title track from People Watching, the third LP by U.K. pop-rock star Sam Fender. “I people watch on the way back home/Envious of the glimmer of hope/Gives me a break from feeling alone,” he sings over the kind of hungry-hearted neo-Springsteen rock that is his sonic safety zone, before clarifying further, “I used to feel so invincible/I used to feel there was a world worth dreaming of.

The world is Jacob Elordi’s oyster after crushing his role as Felix Catton in Emerald Fennell’s sexy and psychotic thriller Saltburn and lining up projects like Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, new episodes of Euphoria, and reteaming with Fennell for her adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Unafraid to pile his plate high with promising parts, Jacob Elordi is in talks to join the cast of Ridley Scott’s pandemic thriller The Dog Stars.
The Dog Stars hails from 20th Century Studios and is based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller. Initially, Scott was reteaming with Gladiator II star Paul Mescal for The God Stars, but scheduling conflicts with his part in Sam Mendes’ Beatles anthology kept him from participating. Sources say Mescal plays Paul McCartney in Mendes’ upcoming film, making him essential to the project.

In his autobiography "Born To Run," Bruce Springsteen wrote how when he was first struggling as a musician, songwriting was the skill he chose to concentrate on refining. His writing was "the most distinctive thing [he] had going," he felt back during the early '70s — as do his legions of fans to this day.
When I listen to Springsteen, I don't just feel a story being told or a mood being conjured, I feel the characters, as if years of inner life are conveyed in a few minutes. Springsteen's 1982 song "Atlantic City" is one of the most cinematic I've ever heard, with a simple but evocative story (a desperate young man in love turning to crime). The verses of "Atlantic City" escalate the hopelessness, but one coupled with a refrain of possibility in the chorus.

Bruce Springsteen wrapped up a productive 2024 on location in New Jersey, which has included spending time on the set of the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere.
The 20th Century Studios film, about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, stars Jeremy Allen White of The Bear and began filming scenes in November. The production is scheduled for more Jersey location shoots in January, including concert scenes in East Rutherford, on its way to a 2025 release date.
Much of the filming so far has taken place in Asbury Park, with scenes involving Frank’s Deli and Restaurant on Main St., the Stone Pony, the Convention Hall, the Carousel House, and, of course, the beach. The movie has transformed Asbury Park into a 1980s version of itself, with period-appropriate cars parked on Main St. Inside the Carousel House, the production recreated the old merry-go-round, as well as the rides that were iconic on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

Back in the day, when the likes of Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and Harrison Ford were ruling Hollywood’s cinematic industry with their outstanding performances, Mel Gibson made sure he was one of the names counted among those A-listers as well. Within a few years of making his professional acting debut through The Sullivans, he earned his breakthrough with Mad Max.
Since then, he went on to score roles among numerous masterpieces, further cementing himself as a household name and establishing his reputation as one of the most admirable actors in the entertainment industry. If anything, in his prime, Gibson pulled off some really iconic wonders as he not only became the recipient of some major awards but also had some epic salary highlights.

In the early 1980s, Bruce Springsteen thought he was at the height of his career. 1975's Born to Run had catapulted him and the E Street Band to national success, and each release after that only added to Springsteen's reputation and fame. 1980's The River was his biggest album yet, with a raw sound that was an attempt to replicate the energy of a live E Street Band concert. It was on the backs of those years of success that saw Springsteen, already having earned his nickname of "The Boss," begin work on his next album.
At his home in Colts Neck, New Jersey, the singer started work on a more introspective album, focusing on the divide between his new experiences with fame and the blue-collar life he had grown up with. He wound up recording a demo tape in his house, laying down fifteen songs that he then took...

Prime Video's Cross includes a fantastic soundtrack that helps shape the setting, pacing, and story. Based on the best-selling books by James Patterson, Cross follows a forensic psychologist and detective named Alex Cross, who lost his wife and is raising two kids while solving mysteries. In season 1, he goes up against the Fanboy, a killer who idolizes serial killers and wants his victims to resemble them.
The Amazon Prime show has been well-received by audiences and critics alike, and fans can get excited because Cross season 2 was confirmed before the first season was ever released. The thriller succeeds because of Cross' A+ cast, the well-written story, and the songs that appear in each episode. Music plays an important role in the characterization of the Cross family, making the soundtrack integral to the narrative. Luckily, the creative team chose great songs that amplify every part of the show.

Having first held down one of the lead roles in The CW's 90210 sequel show, Eggold subsequently found success starring in NBC's The Blacklist and co-leading its short-lived spinoff, Redemption, while also landing a major role in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman around the same time. More recently, Eggold found acclaim leading the cast of the medical drama New Amsterdam, while also directing three episodes before it came to an end in 2023.
Much like Eggold, Mumford found early success in the world of television with her key roles in Fox's crime drama Lone Star and ABC's The River, a found-footage horror show from the creator of the Paranormal Activity franchise and produced by Jason Blum before Blumhouse fame. Since then, Mumford...

Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann and David Krumholtz have joined the cast of Jeremy Allen White’s Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere.”
Maron will play Chuck Plotkin, the music producer who mastered Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album, turning his unprocessed cassette demos into a high-quality record. Hoffmann will portray Springsteen’s mother, Adele Springsteen, a singer in her own right who died at age 98 earlier this year. Krumholtz will play Al Teller, a record label executive who oversaw the release of “Nebraska.”
From Disney’s 20th Century Studios, “Deliver Me From Nowhere” follows Springsteen during the creation of his 1982 album “Nebraska,” a stripped-down record that marked a creative shift from the anthemic “Born to Run” and “The River.” The movie is currently filming in New Jersey and New York. Springsteen, who is involved in the making of the film, visited the set earlier this week and was photographed hugging White.

Tsai Ming Liang Guide: As the 20th century drew to a close, cinema, like other art forms, was undergoing a metamorphosis. Hollywood, in a desperate attempt to keep audiences engaged, embraced new technological advancements, such as improved visual effects. It sought to captivate the masses by blurring the lines between reality and imagination, producing sci-fi blockbusters like “Terminator 2” (1991), “Jurassic Park” (1993), and “Armageddon” (1998). However, thousands of miles away from sunny Los Angeles, another group of filmmakers across Europe and Asia consciously took cinema in a different direction. Rather than helping audiences forget the fourth wall, they aimed to reinforce it, creating films that were acutely aware of their own impact, intentionally distancing viewers from the on-screen events by withholding the cut.

Thom Zimny’s “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” is quite a bit different than his past collaborations with Springsteen. In the past, like with “Western Stars” and “Letter to You,” the focus was on the project at hand. “Road Diary” isn’t about a specific album, it’s a more all-encompassing look at the E Street Band’s origins and how 50-odd years of touring informs Springsteen’s latest tour … and being well-aware he’s in his seventies now and this isn’t going to last forever.
Springsteen’s last tour ended in 2016, in support of his 1980 album “The River,” and it included the release of a set of outtakes and the band playing the double album from start to finish — before eventually moving into one the most spontaneous eras of their concerts in the history of E Street.

I’ve always found it strange how Found Footage appears more frequently in film than in television. If you think about it, most of the recovered footage that we see in real life comes from True Crime TV and investigative journalism rather than movies – or at least it used to before the internet turned the whole world into one giant Found Footage horror flick streaming live until the end of time.
Despite this, there were actually quite a few big-name TV shows that recognized the storytelling potential of the Found Footage format and decided to experiment with Pov filmmaking during their run. And in honor of these small screen pioneers, today we’d like to highlight six excellent Found Footage episodes of non-Found-Footage TV shows.

The first of Chef Gordan Ramsay's numerous cooking shows to air in the United States, Hell's Kitchen has run for more than 20 seasons. Hell's Kitchen contestants face incessant yelling and constant criticism from Chef Ramsay as they compete to win a coveted head chef position.
Episodes of the cooking reality show include more than just cooking for one of Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen restaurants. Rewards and punishments are doled when expectations are not met or a team loses a challenge. Punishments range from mundane tasks like cleaning the kitchen to mind-numbing prep work to doing laundry. Punishments can also be harsh, gross, and downright vicious.
Part of what makes punishment days so awful is the lunch the team has to eat while carrying out whatever Chef Ramsay throws at them. The lunch includes some of the most repulsive foods and food combinations possible, like duck feet sandwiches and flower salads crawling with bugs.

Of the many ’90s needle drops in this episodic epic about a smalltown, working class French youth, it is one by Bruce Springsteen that captures its spirit. It takes a special film to earn the right to play ‘Born To Run’ over the end credits, and this does. The fourth feature by twin brothers Ludovic Boukherma and Zoran Boukherma, adapted from a 2018 novel by Nicolas Mathieu, is so close to the essence of The Boss that it might have been reverse-engineered from his DNA.
Set over four summers “And Their Children After Them” drops us into a formative day in the life of 14-year-old Anthony (Paul Kircher). The first shot is of perfect blue sky; the camera pans down to reveal a vista so tranquil as to be almost banal — puffy clouds, forest, lake — until it is sullied by a cigarette butt flicked into the water. Ernest Hemingway’s final novel, Across the River and Into the Trees, isn’t exactly known to be among his best works, so it’s probably no surprise that it took quite a while for anyone to adapt it to the cinematic medium. Director Paula Ortiz’s adaptation is fine, if unremarkable, elevated by its excellent cast and impressive production values.
Across the River and Into the Trees Review
The film follows a US Army Colonel who receives a life-changing diagnosis but meets it with indifference, taking a sojourn through post-wwii Venice. Those familiar with Hemingway’s work won’t be surprised by what Across the River and Into the Trees has in store — it’s poignantly meditative and incredibly simple. However, there is an undeniable elegance in that simplicity that allows this to be a charming drama.

For over fifty years now, Stevie Van Zandt has been a central figure in rock music and popular culture across multiple genres. Starting in the 1960s music scene of New Jersey, he rose to fame as a co-founder of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and as lead guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s famous E Street Band. Ever the entrepreneur, Van Zandt also produced albums and wrote songs for other artists.
By the 1980s, his interests expanded into politics and activism. He vocally opposed apartheid in South Africa and organized the supergroup Artists United Against Apartheid. Their protest anthem, “Sun City,” united superstars like Bob Dylan and Miles Davis in creative defiance. Van Zandt’s solo career under the name Little Steven also addressed themes of justice and equality.

Jeremy Allen White says his Bruce Springsteen prep has involved a lot of YouTube rabbit holes — with some advice from the real-life rockstar peppered in.
White will play Springsteen in 20th Century and Disney’s Deliver Me From Nowhere. News of the movie’s production picked up earlier this spring, and the star of The Bear is now deep in preparation for the legendary role.
“I’m really lucky that there’s sort of a team of folks now in place to help young actors portray rock stars,” White told GQ. “I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing.”
In recent years, Austin Butler portrayed Elvis in Elvis, Rami Malek played Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, Naomi Ackie played Whitney Houston in Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Kingsley Ben-Adir played Bob Marley in Bob Marley: One Love.

Just over 40 years ago, Ronald Reagan became the first American president to name-drop Bruce Springsteen. “America’s future rests in a thousand dreams inside your hearts,” he told a crowd at a New Jersey campaign stop in September 1984. “It rests in the message of hope in the songs of a man so many young Americans admire — New Jersey’s own, Bruce Springsteen.”

Backstage at an Illinois festival last weekend, two children of pop culture legends were hashing out a set list. “We’ll do ‘The River’ and then ‘Good Morning Sun’ and then ‘Bones’ last,” says Ben Taylor, the rugged-looking son of James Taylor and Carly Simon. Luke Pisano — whose mother was Judy Belushi Pisano, the writer and artist once married to John Belushi — nods but cautions, “That’s all the time we’re going to have. The most time we have is four songs.”

They blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night but will they greenlight a movie in Hollywood? Rumors are swirling that a film may be in the works about Bruce Springsteen’s iconic album “Nebraska”, released in 1982. A Bruce biopic seems almost like a given at this point in his life and career; that this supposed project will focus on his most unique and thematically heavy album is all the more promising. Word right now is that Springsteen is in talks with director Scott Cooper, whose Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace and Black Mass had some dark influences themselves.
“Nebraska” – released between double album “The River” and his reigning best-seller “Born in the USA” – captures some of Springsteen’s darkest lyrics, with songs about people who, as he put it, “just get shot off somewhere where nothing seems to matter.” To give a more direct example, the opening...

The intense reaction to the Israel-Hamas war has spilled over into the International Documentary Film Festival, which has now seen several directors pull their films from the lineup after the IDFA released a statement condemning the slogan “From the river to the sea.”
IDFA told TheWrap that “around 10” directors have pulled their films from the lineup, while the Palestinian Film Institute has also pulled out of activities at the IDFA film market.
Artistic director Orwa Nyrabia told THR he harbored no ill will towards those who chose to pull their movies.
“We respect the choices and the decisions of all filmmakers, whether that is to speak their minds on stage or online or to withdraw their films, all forms of peaceful protest, including criticism of our work, we honor and respect,” Nyrabia said in a statement to the outlet.

Scorsese's Letterboxd list reveals his love for cinema, featuring companion movies from a wide range of genres and time periods. The list demonstrates Scorsese's role as a scholar of film, with many obscure choices that show his depth of knowledge. The cinematic elements in Scorsese's latest epic, Killers of the Flower Moon, reflect his passion for classic works and his ability to reimagine them.

Generally speaking, TV is a less frightening medium than film. (Broadcast news notwithstanding.) Part of that’s the serialized nature of the format; it can be difficult to get really scared wondering whether Scully and Mulder will make it out of any given “X-Files” nightmare when there are 18 or so installments left in the season and you know the show can’t go on without its star characters. It doesn’t help matters that network standards have also kept horror TV decidedly tamer than anything found in R-rated horror efforts for decades; you just can’t put a Rob Zombie or Eli Roth joint anywhere.
And yet, in spite of those disadvantages, the genre has positively flourished on television as of late, with plenty of creepy limited series and spooky serialized dramas bringing terror to the small screen. Audiences curious about what caused this phenomenon can thank “American Horror Story,...

A lot of articles exist on the internet listing the movies Martin Scorsese considers to be the best films of all time, but he’s not actually in favor of such rankings. Speaking to Time magazine for a video interview (see below), the “Taxi Driver” and “The Departed” icon said he is generally against top 10 best lists.
“I’ve tried to make lists over the years of films I personally feel are my favorites, whatever that means,” Scorsese said. “And then you find out that the word ‘favorite’ has different levels: Films that have impressed you the most, as opposed to films you just like to keep watching, as opposed to those you keep watching and learning from, or experiencing anew. So, they’re varied. And I’m always sort of against ’10 best’ lists.”

Where to Watch Powered by The River Wild remake was filmed in Central and Eastern Europe, including Hungary, Slovakia, and Bosnia, to capture the spooky and treacherous aesthetic of the movie. The exact filming locations in these countries, including cities and landmarks, are mostly unknown, but it's possible that some scenes were shot near the Danube River. The cast, including Taran Killam, trained at an Olympic whitewater facility in Slovakia to prepare for the intense scenes in the movie.
