AUKUS, is short for Australia - United Kingdom - United States, and refers to the security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The partnership was announced in September 2021. The partnership's goal is to promote security and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
This is not the first time that the franchise shot on location in Australia. In JAG Boomerang: Part 1 (2000) and Boomerang: Part 2 (2000), the series which spun-off the various NCIS concessions, part of the episodes were filmed in Sydney.
On 16 February 2022, it was reported that a spin-off set in Sydney, Australia, was in the works. NCIS: Los Angeles producer Shane Brennan was attached to the project.
The theme song to the series seems to be a nod to the flagship series NCIS (2003). Moreover, the flashbulb sound effect marking the commercial breaks, seems to be another homage to the original series.
This particular franchise of NCIS, claims that it is telling local stories with Australian actors and producers. Olivia Swann and Sean Sagar who play members of the NCIS team are both English actors.
