BET or black entertainment television although technically correct for this series is doing it a disservice as it's limiting its audience.
This is a complete blockbuster that does not miss a step.
Black white Asian Latino Martian whatever this needs to be simultaneously broadcast on additional networks.
Yes the preponderance of cast are black but that has nothing to do with this show.
Except to show that everyone faced with the similar circumstances can turn into a sociopath.
Love hate complete disbelief are all social aspects to everyday life and everyone experiences them regardless of race.

First and foremost, I love the characters and their development as the story progresses. Good writing, great acting and great casting is always a plus and will keep me interested in any show or movie. I enjoy the way the story is told. Each episode starts with a flashback to provide more background about each character. Deon Cole is a great comedian and is showing that he has range as a drama actor. I really hope this shows does not get canceled since it's on BET. I'd love to see it renewed for a season two! Is it perfect? No, however it has great potential to grow and become stronger over time.

This show is one for the books! I ordered BET+ just to give Average Joe a try and to support Deon Cole. It's a surprising breath of fresh air, well written and well acted by the entire cast. A cranky, crime dramedy that ranks up there with shows like Fargo and Breaking Bad. And it's just nice to see such a diverse cast with black folks at the helm, embroiled in a story line that is anything but typical. This Average Joe project is so far removed from what you'd expect from the BET network.
The show's creator put some serious thought into the story and it just hits on all cylinders. Not sure where this will go after the first season or if it's simply meant to be one season, as BET is notorious for greenlighting shows and cancelling after one season. Hopefully Average Joe keeps going past one season or simply goes down as one of the best original shows the network has ever seen. Either way, bravo, Deon Cole and cast...bravo!

This is a breath of fresh air!!! This show is solid, with great writing, acting, atmosphere and more. So many interesting elements- suspense, comedy, mystery. I am only going it a 7 to start because I haven't finished it yet, but I'm thinking I'm coming back to rate higher. I hope more show can evolve like this one on BET. This is HBO level! Keep this one going!!! I'm here for all of it! Love all the actors from the leads to the one liners! Every actor is solid on here! I like how this starts and develops. I wasn't expecting any of this. Deon Cole is layered. The other leads are good veterans as well. Been watching them and glad to see this hopeful successful show continue.

I do not know what I expected from this show, I hadn't seen any trailers or anything. All I knew was Deon Cole was in it and I had recently become a fan of his after I started watching Black-ish and I saw and enjoyed two of his stand up specials on Netflix. BET shows a lot the time for me have been hit and miss with some gems here and there. This show? Is most definitely a gem. It's a drama but it has an adequate mix of comedy in it for good measure, especially the character Leon he is a funny character. Everybody's reaction to the given situation feels natural and accaurate. My main critique however is that some of the action scenes felt a bit awkward, they could have redone some here and there. I had no idea Deon Cole had this level of acting range in him, he's really good as the main protaganist. If you liked those TNT crime shows like Claws or Animal Kingdom, you'll probably enjoy this show. Or maybe if you liked shows like Good Girls or maybe Ozark from Netflix, then you'll enjoy this.
I was excited to watch this because I like Deon Cole, and and I'm from Pittsburgh. I thought the premise was great and I really enjoyed the first half of the series. I'm not sure where it took a wrong turn. Maybe the last few episodes. Some of the characters started to become annoying and I found the finale to be fairly disappointing (no spoilers).
Beyond that, being from Pittsburgh, I was disappointed at how un-Pittsburgh this was. 1. there is no Highland Park Police, but I'll give them a pass on that one. That close to the city, it's all just Pittsburgh Police. 2. At one point, "Touch" the police officer, calls someone a "Jerkoff" ... Um. A white cop in the city of Pittsburgh would 100% use the term "JAGOFF" and finally, 3. Their daughter is preparing to attend CMU (Carnegie Mellon University) which they kept referring to as CARNEGIE. No one calls it that. No one. It's either CMU or Carnegie Mellon.
These little mistakes totally took me out of the show ... well, that and the few annoying characters and the sucky finale.
Do your homework next time, writers.

This show is so good I really hope it stays on for a long time. Everyone in this show show the best of their acting skills. I can't wait for the next season! I'm not going to give out any spoilers because you need to go watch for yourself, but I will say that it has Action, Thrills, Violence, Family, Love, Pain and Sorrow. Lord this show was SO FREAKING GOOD A MUST WATCH AND MY FAVORITE SHOW. The suspense alone will have you up waiting after 12 am for it to air. My husband didn't want to watch it and after about the first ten minutes of the first episode, he was all in. Just watch the show!!!!
I tried to like this.... The husband and best friend were so annoying throughout. They seemed almost mentally disabled. The state detective was a horrible actor. The daughter was a typical "I'm going to tell everyone" teen. If this has another season, please write the characters with some common sense. Loved the storyline but the characters were written poorly. I don't know if I can even continue watching this. I'm on episode 5 and getting a headache. The cinematography was great so it doesn't belong on Tubi, but jeez.!!! Joe acted as if he never been in a fight, an argument, nothing where he had to think quick !!

The whole story line was good, the video production was a step up from low budget (which I love), but other than that it's a great story line. Cole did his thing on this! His facial expressions were ugly asl lol he looked constipated but overall his acting and the casting was great. This will go down as a classic movie, I know it'll be platinum in the black household. But a great series did not expect it to be this good, this was a show I needed in my life. Hopefully we can get more shows that are this intense and great of a storyline. I could've seeing this being a movie, but I think they did a great justice by spreading it out. The 10 million really was a great concept because it exposed everyone.
I loved this show. It would be totally crazy to not have a Season 2 or more. There are so many things left hanging, and I like many are invested in these characters and need to see what happened to them. It would be a crying same if this turns out to be one of those series that just ends and leaves you wondering. If it does that would be my one and only complaint. The two bad reviews I see here must have some sort of problem to give those reviews or they weren't paying attention. Many people in this country do not want something they have to pay attention to which is why we have so many awful reality shows.

I really only watched this show because I support all
things Chicago (Deon Cole) but was thoroughly impressed. The show was not only nail biting at times but had a funny edge they kept me intrigued the entire time. The incorporation of the African American culture with the Russian culture was the most interesting part of the show. Once again proving that at the end of the day we are all human and love is love. Deon Cole did an amazing job and proved he is much more than a comedian and the next Hollywood actor to watch. Great job and kudos to the entire Average Joe cast and creators. I wish there was another season to look forward to and would love to see this added to the BET+ roster of programming.

I'm not even going to start with the generic music you hear from a 20 dollar video game menu . The writing was so bad , it's like this show tried to have edgy dialog but it comes out cringy . I sat there contemplating why am I even watching it and I realize , oh because I was drunk as hell when I viewed it . I gave it a try again and wow , I wish I was just drunk again . Everything is generic my god , they'll do a lot of obvious foreshadowing that you seen four episodes ago , it's just poorly written . The woman cop who took over the case , her acting was so bad my god , she tries to act tough and it just comes out even worse when she keeps talking . Don't watch it.

I love the actors and that It highlights black characters. Deon Cole was amazing. The entire cast did an exxellent job. Tje pace was just right and the storyline is intriguing and unpredictible. I believe the writers were very creative and designing this show. I had never seen a trailer or anything describing this. I just saw the main character Deon Cole and decided to give it a try and I am so happy that I did. This is my very first time watching him in something that wasn't just a comedy. I'm so proud of him! I set here and binge watched it in one day. My suggestion is to give it a try I think you will love it!

This was unexpectedly very good. Deon Cole? You can't take a project serious right there, or can you? Cole and the other actors and actresses in this did very well. One of the protaganists is a Dave Chapelle look alike in both speech and comedic wit and timing.
The story itself is intriguing. Its a plot that could've fell flat on its surface but is executed very well here. There is genuine suspense here. Every episode is full of plot points that draw you in and make you either hate or like a character's actions. Netflix or whoever owns the rights has to complete this by coming out with a new season.

A well written and Acted series , Deon Cole's Performance is Excellent along with the cast . A Perfectly casted cast of fellow Actors and Actresses, Such a beautifully crafted plot with unexpected twists and turns , You are pulled in and wanting more , Rooting for everyone to get the money and live to enjoy it. I'm so looking forward to Season 2 , Just to see what else they get Into and how vicious the next set of bad guys are and can be. Seeing the Average Guy get over in these times is very refreshing an enjoyable. Great work from a Cast Perfectly suited for this Series , Again looking forward to the New Season.
Just finished this series. It was a HUGE disappointment and here's why - - - - -
I could deal with the obviously low budget and the spotty acting but the storyline is downright idiotic.
I had high hopes after E1 got me hooked and I committed to watching the entire 10 episodes. Unfortunately, as the episodes progressed, the story become more and more unbelievable to the point where it was just plain dumb.
Further, when the female police sergeant is introduced, the series goes into a downward spiral. She quite simply cannot act her way out of a paperbag. She's embarrssing, she's so bad.
And then there are the totally useless segments that have next to nothing to do with the plot other than to fill out the hour. And we get more and more of those as the episodes plod on because they apparently ran out of fresh ideas.
And speaking of fresh ideas, surely I am not the only one who noticed that the writer stole entire segments from other shows, like Game of Thrones, Your Honor, etc.!!!
When we get to the end, the series has become an unbelieveable burlesque...and then there's that last episode. This has to be the worst finale I have ever seen in a TV series. None of it made sense.
And for you people who are saying you hope there's second season, did you watch the series? How is that possible, unless the producers raise the dead!
And finally, to add insult to injury, the very last scene is literally stolen from The Sopranos! I mean really?

I saw Ashley Fisher's interview on the news and decided I want to support my fellow Jamaican actress. But when I tell you I was captivated and on the edge on my seat the entire series. I literally binge watched!!! Omg the story line is amazing all the actors are phenomenal!!! My favorite by far is KATHY 😂😂 You will not regret watching this series. It is funny and dark, suspenseful and charismatic! I also love white boy Touch!! 😂😂😆 This is definitely one of the top ten series I've watched in a longtime. Please pay the writers their money!!! They deserve every cent that they need, because baybeeee this storyline is EPIC! I really hope this show get the recognition and accolades it deserves!!!
I have never watched a worse show than this! Holly Molly the writer watched too much csi 😅 and made the worst plot I've ever seen! If you really want to waste time watch this show! It's so bad I can't even point at 1 problem every single actor sucks! They all over react to everything! Specially Joe he looks like he is constipated the whole time 😂! I can't even finish the season! This is a joke! They could have made it a bit more realistic but instead they made the actors look stupid (writers fault)
I really feel like I'm owe my time, I kept watching it to see if will get better but it never did! I'm not even interested in watching the last episode.

I was truly not expecting much besides some laughs and not getting bored. And hell did it deliver that and so much more!
This is really a domino effect roller-coaster from episode one to the end, one f"#$"%& up after the other leading to another f"#%$ up that they need to address and try to fix leading to another problem that they will ultimately fix.
This kept me glued to the screen every episode.
The acting is amazing, everyone is just perfect with their parts and the script is just brilliant. Deon Cole and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams steal the show. Malcolm Barrett is also brilliant, but shadowed by the above.
The only annoying act I suppose was given from Tammy Townsend, I don't know if it was scripted or not, but for me it was very annoying.
Cant wait for season 2.
