The name "mara" might come from a creature in Scandinavian folklore. When people had nightmares they said that they had been ridden by the mara (the Norwegian word for nightmare is "mareritt") who took the shape of a woman.

Goofs
When Sophie is drawing a picture of her bear for the doctor under Sophie's bed, she is seen coloring the left ear completely in on one scene ,but the next scene it shows the bears ear with a triangle shape in middle of the ear and only the triangle was colored in.

Average horror movie.

The concepts behind Mara were well thought out and made sense. I had some problems with the slow pace of the story at times, but overall the movie is worth a watch.
