Applause Entertainment’s Mithya: The Darker Chapter , survives ‘The Curse Of The Second Season’ and even manages to be better than the first part, in parts. Huma Qureshi Who is at best, capable of a competent performance , pull herself out of her comfort zone to play a lecturer Juhi Adhikari of Hindi literature. As for her adversary, let’s just say Avantika Dassani doesn’t bring disrepute to the culture of nepotism. She is a better actress than her mother Bhagyashree, which admittedly is not saying much.
If mother Bhagyashree did Main Pyar Kiya, daughter Avantika’s project could well be titled Maine Plan Kiya. What a schemer her Rhea Rajguru is! In the first season Rhea caught her funky Teacher Didi making out in the college washroom . In the current season Juhi is caught plagiarizing another man’s book wholesale.

Mithya season 1 was about Juhi, a Hindi professor in Darjeeling, coming across unpleasant truths about her family. Out of nowhere, she was being stalked and mentally harassed by her new student, Rhea Rajguru. It turns out that Rhea bore a strong grudge against everyone related to Juhi Adhikari. As Rhea was accused of plagiarism on her college assignment essay, a Pandora’s box is opened, and everyone learns of Juhi’s father’s shady past. Season one ended with Juhi learning Rhea was her father’s daughter from a brief affair. When Rhea tried to connect with him, he ignored her, which led to her going after Juhi. Amidst all these revelations, Juhi’s husband Neil was also killed, and Rhea confessed to killing him, claiming it was an act of self-defense. To Juhi’s shock, Rhea revealed the self-defense part was a lie, just to get a smaller sentence,...

The ending of Mithya Season 2 hinged on the rescue of Yash from the clutches of Rhea, who intended to take him to Granada, Spain, via Nepal. The first half of the series was all about Rhea using a failed writer named Amit to tarnish the reputations of both Anand Tyagi and his daughter, Juhi Adhikari. Rhea was Anand’s illegitimate daughter. So, she hated Anand because he was the reason why her biological mother had died by suicide. But she was obsessed with Juhi, Anand’s official daughter, and she wanted her all to herself so that they could be a family. Since Neil (Juhi’s husband) was coming in her way, Rhea proved that he was a lecherous man and then killed him. That didn’t convince Juhi to side with Rhea, and instead she told her half-sister to stay away from her and her family. Rhea lied about killing Neil in self-defense,...

After the success of Sacred Games and Mirzapur, the Hindi region of the Ott space was filled with all kinds of episodic crime dramas. Off the top of my head, we got Delhi Crime, Hasmukh, Your Honor, Undekhi, Flesh, Aashram, A Simple Murder, Dark 7 White, and more. Paatal Lok managed to stand out, but since it was backed by an insanely talented star cast and a team of brilliant directors and writers, its success didn’t come off as a surprise. But the crime drama show that floored me was Mithya. Sure, it had stellar actors like Huma Qureshi and Parambrata Chatterjee in it and was being helmed by Rohan Sippy. However, everything depended on a newcomer, Avantika Dassani, and boy did she deliver in spades. The writing of her character was absolutely diabolical, and the cold way in which she went about the misty mountains of Darjeeling executing...

South Asian focused streamer ZEE5 Global has ambitious growth plans for the U.S., where it has just completed a year of operations. It envisages local commissions, English- and Spanish-language dubbing and subtitling and reaching deep into the South Asian diaspora through grassroots promotions.
“We want to be the one that is at the forefront of creating the crossover for South Asian content — the one that makes South Asian content go mainstream,” Archana Anand, chief business officer, ZEE5 Global, told Variety. “We want for the global audiences sitting in the U.S. to now start watching ZEE5 Global, including the Spanish audiences. So when we dub or when we subtitle we want to start subtitling in English and Spanish, and have those stories cross over.”
To achieve this, Anand is planning a two-pronged approach — to identify the ZEE5 content that has the ability to crossover, and commission local productions, something...

Huma Qureshi, one of the stars of Zack Snyder’s Netflix film “Army of the Dead,” has wrapped the shoot of anti-body-shaming film “Double Xl.”
Qureshi, who stars in the film alongside Sonakshi Sinha, also debuts as a producer via her company Elemen3. Satram Ramani (“Helmet”) directs.
“In all cultures there are ways in which we try and standardize beauty and we try and almost tell young young girls, that [if] you don’t adhere to a certain body type, you are not beautiful, cherished, you’re not special, you’re not valued,” Qureshi told Variety. “Why do we not see models representing real women’s bodies? Why do we not see actresses of all shapes and sizes? They exist, so why are you not seeing that on the big screen? Because what it leads to is a lot of young women and men grow up with complexes as if they’re not good enough.

Mithya(Zee5, 8 Episodes)
Starring Huma S Qureshi, Avantika Dassani, Parambrata Chatterjee
Directed by Rohan Sippy
Mithya is the kind of ballsy breakneck thriller that doesn’t shy away from addressing illicit sleazy relationships, even if it brings the protagonists’ heroism down by many pegs , and I do mean pegs, as the characters drink themselves silly and get their innerwear into a budge time after time.
Every main character in Mithya is flawed and to watch one of them turn around and act holier-than-thou after another makes a cardinal error, is ironical, to say the least.
Set in an idyllic tranquil hill station, just as the Sippys’ earlier web(of deceit) series Aranya, this one is about a Hindi teacher Juhi Adhikari (Huma S Qureshi) who doesn’t look she could teach Hindi, but seems happily married to Neil(Parambrata Chatterjee) until we see her making out in the school toilet...
