You can now learn how studioADI's practical effects in Harbinger Down (starring Lance Henriksen) were lovingly created in Christopher Cooksey's new book about the making of the 2015 horror film. Also in today's Horror Highlights: Blu-ray and DVD release details for Down a Dark Hall, co-starring Uma Thurman, and the impressive lineup of guests at this year's New Jersey Horror Con and Film Festival.
New Book About the Making of Harbinger Down: "Take a pictorial journey through the production of Harbinger Down, the film that set out to prove that audiences still prefer practical effects creatures over CGI. After finding their animatronic creations left on the cutting room floor one too many times in favor of digitally animated monsters and spurred on by the outcry of movie fans everywhere to keep it real, studioADI co-founders Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr. decided to take matters into their own hands. In our ongoing recap of last week's Ultimate Horror Poll -- in which over 100 genre experts helped determine the 100 greatest horror movies of all time by voting for their personal "ten best" -- the time has come to take stock of every honorable mention and clarification given by the survey's participants that weren't included in the original piece. To be clear, voters weren't asked for honorable mentions specifically; but a handful felt strongly enough about their "bubbling under" choices to list them anyway (which proved extraordinarily useful in helping break ties on the Top 100). See below for a full listing, as well as explanations from Bloody-Disgusting founder/editor-in-chief Brad Miska and director Corin Hardy ("The Hallow") on why they voted the way they did. Honorable Mentions: Barbara Crampton (Actor, "Re-Animator") Dracula (1931) Jaws (1975) Nosferatu (1922) Poltergeist (1982) Vampyr (1932) Brad Miska (Founder/Editor-in-Chief, Bloody-Disgusting.com; Producer) -- See Full Explanations Below Beetlejuice (1988) Bill & Ted's...

In honor of the Halloween season, we thought we'd chat with one of the genre's most iconic characters, the one and only Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, as portrayed by the lovely Cassandra Peterson. Read on for our ten questions with one of our favorite Scream Queens.
1. How did the Elvira character come about?
Elvira: I was with The Groundlings comedy improv group for four years before Elvira came along. My fellow Groundlings at the time were Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman), the late Phil Hartman of "Saturday Night Live" fame, Lorraine Newman, John Lovitz, Julia Sweeny, etc. etc. Many, many working actors have spawned careers at The Groundlings. (If you're ever in La, check them out at their theatre on Melrose Avenue.)
As budding actresses tend to do, I auditioned nearly every day so when I heard that a local Hollywood TV station was looking for a horror host,...

Elvira's Movie Macabre Woo hoo! I have to say I am so glad that Elvira has returned back to the small screen and hosting trashy late night horror movies. Just one little problem, the series doesn't air in my area. Bummer! Thankfully the good folks over at eOne (Entertainment One) have picked up the rights to bring Elvira and her all new episodes to DVD so that people like myself who can't catch it on TV, can at least watch on DVD. After already releasing two DVD's that included titles like Night of the Living Dead, The Satantic Rites of Dracula, etc., eOne is bringing more episodes to DVD this summer.
Presented by Elvira: Mistress of the Dark – the world’s sexiest, most outrageous and original movie hostess – Elvira’S Movie MacAbre features Elvira’s signature unflinching, tongue-in-cheek commentary of some of the “greatest” B-movies ever to unspool. EOne’s...

Entertainment One will distribute the enw Elvira’s Movie Macabre on home video and digital in North America in June, 2011.
Remember how Elvira relaunched her show this past fall? Did you not watch? I agree. It got shitty show times - often past midnight. What old person can stay up that late???
Now you can watch the new series and really enjoy it at a regular time, like 3Pm in the afternoon, with some weak tea and an egg-salad sandwich. The way Elvira meant it to be watched. Her show, Elvira's Movie Macabre, was relaunched this past fall and originally aired in the 1980s before half you little shits were even born.
The double-feature releases from Entertainment One will pair such really unwatchable public domain shit as George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead with I Eat Your Skin and a double-bill of Hammer Film’s The Satanic Rites of Dracula...
