"Shazam" is an acronym from the initials of the deities who gave the protectors their powers. The gods and their skills, as mentioned in this feature, are Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage) and Mercury (speed).
The Seven Deadly Sins in the Captain Marvel comics are slightly altered from their Christian religious concepts. Lust, Gluttony, Sloth and Wrath were replaced with Hatred, Selfishness, Laziness and Injustice.
In the beginning of the movie, when Billy Batson is leaving his apartment, he says, "Gee, you sure look pretty today, Miss Bambi". The woman is wearing the same outfit and short blonde wig as the prostitute Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman (1990), whose alias was Bambi.
This was the final media adaptation of Captain Marvel to call the character by that name within the story. In 2011, DC Comics changed the character's name to "Shazam", because the "Captain Marvel" title had been taken by Marvel Comics in the 1960s. However, in 2023 DC Comics started referring to the character as "The Captain".
