I really don’t understand why people keep making “Mysterious Island” into a movie. Yes, it’s a fantastic story by a brilliant writer, but it rarely makes for engaging cinema. And while I hate to jump to conclusions, I honestly feel that director Mark Sheppard’s 2010 adventure flick “Mysterious Island” will be no different. Maybe it’s because I have a hard time taking Lochlyn Munro seriously. No offense, but my initial reaction to any scene he’s in is to laugh. Seriously. The guy is walking comedy. I know that sounds terrible, and I’m sorry. Anyway, on to the plot synopsis: As famine and death ravage Richmond, Va., five northern Civil War POWs plan a daring escape by hijacking a hot air balloon. Drifting through the night, they wake to find themselves marooned on a desert island … but they’re not alone. Littered with wreckage, the island...

McLaughlin (Savages, In the Valley of Elah and Crash) will star as Mike Stone the sheriff of Stone Compound. Mike becomes the default leader of a group of survivors at the age of nine following his father's death. He has earned their respect and gratitude over the past twenty years by fighting off the hordes of undead. Together with his wife, Summer, he has carved out a life for their son and every other resident of Stone Compound under trying circumstances.
