I feel like I'm losing my mind reading these 9-10/10 reviews. This movie was so bad that I can only conclude those people watched something entirely different. This movie would have been a lot better if it had picked a lane. At times it was a good-times summer surfing movie, a road trip movie, and a crime thriller. The problem was that none of those things seemed to be dominant or done very well. The movie also centered around the one guy's dad who was murdered 30 years ago, which means these guys were all at least 30. They did not look 30 or act 30. I also feel like that random thing was completely unnecessary. It wasn't even like the guy needed closure or some part of his life wrapped up, it was just something that happened. That led to the road trip which barely happened. It took over 40 minutes for them to even leave town and then they spent maybe 20 minutes actually doing road trip stuff before going back to what they were already doing. This movie also had at least 8 different surfing montages, one of which wasn't even of the main characters. The biggest problem though was that the acting was terrible and the dialogue was extremely bad. Everything was so stiff and inorganic that it was impossible to pretend this was anything other than a poorly made movie. I don't think that there was really much to redeem this movie; it was poorly made and boring.
"sons of summer" movie is a movie with an extremely weak script, without observing any dramatic structure, without a single interesting story.
In this movie, no dramatic action that has the potential of a feature film happened, the acting of the actors was very poor and it was the worst movie I have seen in my life.
A film without a story, without a hero, without any attractive turning point, conflict and potential, this film had neither characterization nor dramatic characters.
I am really sorry for the creators of this work, especially with the untalented and weak actors.
I wish the makers had a bit of dramatic literacy before making the movie.

Because if you do, let me tell you, Sons of Summer isn't it.
Based on the flimsiest of pretexts, four surfers whose fathers were friends 30 years ago decide to go on a road trip together along with a huge quantity of drugs one of them has stolen from a local paint-by-numbers gangster. There's no connection between the characters, the acting is as wooden as their surfboards, the plot has holes you could drive a bus through, the cinematography reminds me of the sort found in Aussie movies from 40 years ago, and the whole thing has the feel of an overly long episode of Home and Away directed by someone who loved Baywatch as a kid.
It's not as if Sons of Summer falls into that "so bad it's good" category, it's just an awful, awful movie.

After some awfully hamfisted exposition, 4 friends (seemingly only friends because their Dads are mates) decide on a road trip for a very weakly established plot point. Along the way they make terrible decisions and act like they're in a first time community theatre production. I can't stress this enough- this is awful and my best guess is someone did this as a favour to someone who needed money laundered. There's NO reason. For this film to exist. Not so bad it's good, just bad. Not enough substance here to write anything more on the film so I'll end on saying Rasputin by Bony M is a killer track.

Horrible acting and omg that girl looks freaking sick. It was hard to watch.
I don't know what they use these sickly thin actors in the movies. The whole movie was so weak.
Weak acting, beautiful locations but still didn't make us want to watch this movie.
We stopped in the first 10 min.
Watching Isabel Lucas was just too painful.
This is not good for younger people to watch and compare themselves with these sickly thin people, thinking that's the norm.
This is just not OK.
The very weak acting, making it slow motion like it's 80s still is not OK. We don't stand for this kinda movies anymore. Stop it.

Now I have got to waste 600 letters on a review when the title should already says everything. I actually only bothered to watch this movie seeing that the score was 7.2 on Imdb. How it ever got there is a mystery to me. The whole thing is an amateurisch mess. The acting was incredibly bad. The characters behaved in a complete illogical way. The introduction and what was supposed to be the headline in this movie about a murder committed 30 years earlier played no role whatsoever in the story. We have a two man mafia going about like a chicken with no head. I can only advice against wasting your time on this trash. There are some nice shots of wave riding, but that shouldn't serve as an excuse to watch this trash.

Beautiful cinematography and considering they had a very tight budget and time frame, plus the weather gods were apparently against them - they've done a marvellous job!
Some well known faces and some up-and-coming Aussie stars. Enjoyable and easy to watch; particularly if you like surfing.

There a few movies that can mix action and surfing. I can think of three. Point Break, Liquid Bridge and Summer City.
SONS OF SUMMER cleverly mixes a Road Trip to pay tribute to a dad that was murdered 30 years ago.
The four sons, lead by actor Joe Davidson who's dad was the one murdered by a Vet and has his own problems is a likeable character warts n all. His relationship with girlfriend Isabel Lucas is at the crossroads as his deeds before they go on the trip make the journey memorable.
Enter Temeura Morrison. What a great actor, he adds the tension and moves the story into a different genre.
Next we have the visuals, the surfing sequences are the best Ive ever seen in a movie and the music was a perfect mix of today and yesterday. Ive rated this 9 stars. Highly recommended.

The scenery and surfing is great, the plot has a good story line and is carried really well by the main actors being Temura Morrison and Joe Davidson. Alex Fleri has some really good action shots and is believable in his part.
Isabel Lucas parts her part well, but her part could have had many more exciting and meaningful scenes which would have highlighted her part, I believe most movies require good female scenes to bring the movie "home".
Plently of ocean shots and some excitingly good surfing is captured - so if you like to watch surfing close to a beach with a good story line and good waves then you'll love this movie.

Part surfing movie part thriller the film is kind of a sequel to Avalon's Summer City released 46 years ago the premiere of which I attended. What I loved about it was in part the nostalgic elements as it referenced the original film which starred a few unknown actors like Steve Bisley and Mel Gibson. This film manages to work as a study of Australian mateship and the contemporary surfie culture that has existed in Australia for decades. The surf sequences are dazzling and elegant and the movie moves with a taut briskness. One hopes it gets publicity on home turf and finds an audience. In the US the movie is playing in select AMC theaters and on demand through Apple etc. Grade B.

I absolutely loved this film. The plot's a cracker - four blokes paying tribute to one of their dads who got murdered. Fair dinkum, it sets the scene perfectly. Temuera Morrison leads the pack, chasing down Joe Davidson, and he's spot on. The cinematography's a real beaut, especially the surfing scenes, and the story keeps you hooked in. The director's done a top job. It's a must-watch. Fantastic for the entire family. It's got a bit of everything: a touch of action, a dash of romance, and some truly brilliant surfing. The surfing scenes were absolutely mesmerising. We want more aussie films like this.

An Australian cast with Temura Morrison, as the bad guy and drug dealer! He plays a great and believable part, the new guy on the block - Joe Davidson does a good job and is going places.
I liked it, some action, some drama, loads of good surfing shots, and very easy to sit down and watch a down to earth movie.
Not a bad story line either.
Shot mainly on the Gold Coast, in Qld, Australia, it shows good scenery and beach views.
Enjoy the show, the views, the story, the plot, surfing and the actors doing their jobs.
I will go and see it again, when the opportunity arises or when its streamed.
Maxine Bright.

Sons of Summer is a poignant and evocative Australian film that delves deep into the themes of youth, camaraderie, and the bittersweet passage of time. Set against the backdrop of Australia's sun-drenched beaches, the film expertly captures the essence of Australian summer - a time of freedom, adventure, and the intense bonds of friendship.
The cinematography is a standout, beautifully capturing the rugged Australian coastline and the vibrant energy of youth. It complements the storytelling, adding an almost tactile sense of heat and the carefree days of summer.
Performances by the young cast are remarkable, bringing authenticity and depth to their roles. The chemistry among the actors is palpable, adding to the film's charm and believability. The script balances humor with moments of introspection, allowing each character to have their moment in the sun, quite literally.

Joe Davidson shines as the fresh face in Sons of Summer, delivering a performance that is both convincing and promising. The film strikes a fine balance between action and drama, peppered with excellent surfing sequences. It's an easy-going, down-to-earth movie that's a joy to watch.
The storyline is engaging, and the film's setting along the picturesque Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, adds to its charm with beautiful beach and scenic views. It's a complete package-great story, stunning visuals, surfing, and solid acting. I'm eager to see this again for sure. Good quality film with a solid script.

Sons of Summer is an absolute gem of an Australian film, beautifully shot on the Gold Coast. As a surfer myself, I was completely captivated by the exhilarating surfing scenes. The storyline was engaging and the music, simply brilliant. It's not just a film; it's an experience that transports you right into the heart of its spectacular scenery.
The talented cast brings the story to life in a way that's both authentic and mesmerizing. Being from the Gold Coast, this film holds a special place in my heart. It's a reminder of the beauty of my hometown and the importance of supporting Australian cinema. Sons of Summer is more than just a movie; it's a celebration of our culture and shores. Absolutely fabulous!
