It’s now been confirmed that Joel McHale will be playing Sidney’s husband, Mark, in Scream 7, a role that was previously implied to be played by Patrick Dempsey’s same-named franchise character. With Neve Campbell reprising her role as the iconic final girl Sidney Prescott in Scream 7’s cast, the franchise is returning to its focus on her family and never-ending battle with Ghosfaces. However, since Campbell was notably absent from Scream 6 (2023) and had a smaller role in Scream (2022), knowledge about her family in the reboot movies has only been revealed through brief references.
When Sidney Prescott returned after a decade-long gap between Scream 4 (2011) and Scream (2022), it was revealed that she had since gotten married, had kids, and moved away from Woodsboro. In Scream 6, Sidney’s husband was only referred to as “Mark,” with her kids still being unnamed. Even though there wasn’t...

The latest news from the Scream franchise proves that Scream 7 cant salvage the story of the series. 2026s upcoming Scream 7 wont hit cinema screens for a long time, but the slasher sequel has already endured a fairly tortured production. 2022s Scream reboot was a huge hit financially and critically, while 2023's Scream VI managed to earn positive reviews and become a massive box office success despite the absence of the franchise's original final girl, Neve Campbells Sidney Prescott. However, the luck of the Scream series soon ran out as Scream 7 entered pre-production.

Apple TV+ has added more than 50 licensed movies included in the price of the subscription service — the streamer’s biggest collection of back-catalog studio content to date. But the third-party titles will only be available for a limited time.
Apple TV+’s lineup has mostly comprised original series, movies and specials commissioned for the platform (as well as a smattering of live MLB games). Now it has added a bouquet of older film favorites to the mix, including popular and award-winning movies like “Titanic,” “300,” “Argo,” “Black Hawk Down,” “The Bodyguard,” “Jurassic World,” “Gravity,” “Fast & Furious 6,” “Kill Bill” Volume 1 and 2, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the original 2004 “Mean Girls” and “Zoolander.”
The movies are listed in a new section on the service labeled “Great Movies on Apple TV+” — however, the service notes, these are available for a “limited time.

Actors who served in the military can bring authenticity to their war movie performances, drawing on their own experiences and understanding of military life. Sidney Poitier lied about his age and served as a military hospital assistant, gaining insight into the challenges faced by soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress. Clint Eastwood's near-death experience in the military informs his role as a troubled drill sergeant in Heartbreak Ridge, adding depth to his performance.
War movies are often judged based on their accuracy, and some actors can benefit from real-life experience serving in the military. Millions of young men were conscripted to fight in World War II and the Korean War, so it's no surprise that some of these men would later go on to become successful actors. Other actors chose to join the military for other reason, either because they were seeking a better life or because they had a passion to serve their countries.

A Scream 7 fan poster imagines what the film's advertising might look like if Stu Macher returned as Ghostface. The character, who was played by Matthew Lillard, was one of the two killers in the original 1996 Scream and was killed at the end of the film by having a TV smashed on his head by Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). However, fan theories have been swirling around Stu's potential return ever since the franchise came back to theaters with 2022's Scream and 2023's Scream VI, neither of which featured Stu (though Lillard did have a voice-only cameo in Scream).

When the late Sidney Poitier embarked on a movie career in the early 1950s, he entered an industry with a history of depicting Black people in the most negative fashion. The Birth of a Nation, the seminal 1915 silent film, had set the template – portraying African American characters as sex-crazed and subhuman.
“Then Sidney Poitier comes along singlehandedly smashing decades of racist iconography and turning it all on its head,” said Reginald Hudlin, director of the Apple TV+ documentary Sidney. “Him doing it at the same time as the Civil Rights Movement is making these political gains, he changed the global image of Black people on Earth.”

Scream 6 continues its impressive box office run, hitting a domestic milestone that hasn't been hit since Scream 2 26 years ago. Released last month to mostly positive reviews, Scream 6 sees Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) face off against a new Ghostface killer in New York City. The hit sequel earned $44.5 million during its opening weekend run, exceeding expectations and setting a new opening weekend franchise record.
Now, as per Variety, Scream 6's box office has now hit a new milestone, crossing the $100 million mark domestically. This feat was last accomplished by the franchise with Wes Craven's Scream 2 back in 1997, which ended its run at $101 million. In the coming days, the latest sequel is also expected to beat the 1996 original, which remains the highest-grossing installment of the franchise in North America. Internationally, however, Scream 6 stands at $156 million, putting it well behind the first two movies,...

While we weren't looking, "Scream" newcomer Josh Segarra has slowly been infiltrating every corner of the entertainment industry. Comic-book TV fans might know him as Adrian Chase/Vigilante in the now defunct CW "Arrowverse," or the show-stealing supporting character, Pug in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." When he's not fighting alongside superheroes, he's exuding wonderful "golden retriever" energy as Lance on HBO Max's "The Other Two."
In "Scream VI," the newest reinvention of the meta-horror slasher franchise, Segarra plays Danny, the handsome, supportive neighbor to protagonist Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera). Though it's a small role in a stacked ensemble full of likable, fresh faces, his charisma goes a long way. At this point of the franchise, we know better than to trust the love interest. And yet, Segarra's effortless and disarming charm makes it a little difficult -- not just for Sam, but for the audience too.

Newly minted Oscar winner Ed Berger, director, co-writer and producer of All Quiet On the Western Front, which was named Best International Film last night, is set to direct and executive produce Helltown, an eight-episode crime thriller in development at Amazon Studios from Mohamad El Masri (Severance), Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey’s Team Downey. Oscar Issac (Moon Knight) is in discussions to star in and executive produce the project, based on the book of the same name by Casey Sherman.

Filmmakers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reginald Hudlin were celebrated Wednesday evening at the eighth pre-Oscar dinner of Icon Mann, a media and consulting company run by Tamara Houston that is dedicated to honoring the achievements of artists of color and providing a meeting place for powerful Black men, in particular.
During an elegant ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills that was hosted by CBS News anchor Errol Barnett, many of the most distinguished members of Hollywood’s Black community gathered to fete the veteran filmmakers behind two of 2022’s most acclaimed films — Prince-Bythewood’s Sony historical drama The Woman King and Hudlin’s Apple TV+ documentary feature Sidney — both of which were glaringly passed over for recognition by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Angela Bassett was the top winner at the NAACP Image Awards taking the trophy for Entertainer of the Year. The star had previously won this year for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for 9-1-1 and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which took the award for Outstanding Motion Picture.
One of the big surprises of the night was Will Smith winning the Outstanding Actor award for Emancipation. The actor was not in attendance and category presenter Janelle Monáe accepted the trophy on his behalf.
Brittney Griner appeared on stage with their wife and made a call to continue fighting for detainees overseas.

The biggest strength of the first three "Scream" films is the fact that they each follow the same core cast of characters. Each installment doesn't just give us a new mystery; it also reintroduces us to Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette), who must once again have their lives upended by a new pair of knife-wielding psychopath or psychopaths.
Over the course of the original trilogy, we watch as Dewey finds his confidence and Gale learns to be less self-centered. It's Sidney, however, who has the strongest, most consistent arc throughout the trilogy. As she transforms from a normal teenager to a hardened survivor, her trauma over her experiences is treated with surprising sincerity and thoughtfulness. Billy Loomis' (Skeet Ulrich) betrayal in the first movie led to her having serious trust issues with her boyfriend Derek (Jerry O'Connell) in the second movie, which...

The Keith mystery is coming near a head, and "Crag" will hopefully start ushering us into a conclusion with the final two episodes of the season.

“Introduce yourselves to her!”
I was having a breakfast interview in 1997 with Sidney Poitier at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel when two rather sleazy Hollywood types interrupted our conversation proffering their hands to the legendary actor. Poitier stood up and shook their hands while these two men began to blither on about the first Black actor to win a competitive Oscar for 1963’s “Lilies of the Field” and was the top box office draw in 1968. Finally, Poitier stopped them, pointed to me and in his best Virgil Tibbs voice uttered that command. They quickly shook my hand, and the conversation was soon over.
I interviewed Poitier four times from 1991-98 when I was at the Los Angeles Times. They were more than just conversations about a certain project or event. We had two-hour plus chats revolving numerous subjects including education and racism. These encounters were life changing. In fact, after our...

Exclusive: As a direct result of a suggestion at the September 17 Academy membership meeting, AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang told the 10,000+ group in an email this morning that Academy members without tickets for the actual Oscar show will now be allowed to serve as seat-fillers during the broadcast.
The idea came about because the AMPAS member who made the suggestion was frustrated by the annual lottery for tickets, especially affected the past two years due to restrictions imposed by Covid protocol. In their email Kramer and Yang also announced that the ticket lottery will be returning for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards, and actually already is in progress for the November 19 Governors Awards.
“Regarding the Oscars, we too loved the suggestion to have members serve as seat-fillers. We will enact this for the March 12 show and will provide information later this fall about seat-filler guidelines and protocols.

Oscar season has begun, and the race toward the major awards is starting to line up. Current favorites in the Best Picture category include Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans,” Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking,” Todd Field’s “Tár,” Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” and Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story.”
As usual for this point in the awards calendar, though, none of these films are available for Oscar voters to view in the Academy Screening Room, a members-only portal to aid voters in seeing the movies in contention. The multi-year agreement between Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+ has come to an end, though both sides are expected to continue working together on a “project-by-project” basis, according to Variety. Winfrey originally signed the deal with the streamer in 2018, which would see her create programming for Apple’s original content line-up. Some of these projects include The Oprah Conversation, which aired for one season in 2020, the docuseries The Me You Can’t See, and the recently released documentary Sidney, about the life of the late Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier. However, Winfrey has a jam-packed schedule, with projects across multiple networks and platforms. She co-owns the cable channel OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network with Warner Bros. Discovery, where she has helped develop hit shows, such as Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar and Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots. Discovery increased its stake in OWN to 95 in 2020, while Winfrey...

With Sidney Poitier’s own voice providing the narrative backbone to Reginald Hudlin’s documentary Sidney, we get to rediscover just what a wonderful storyteller he was. He speaks about his childhood in the Bahamas, his adolescence in Nassau, and the overnight culture clash of coming to Miami without realizing just what it meant to be a Black man in America—all with such emotion and drama that we can’t help hanging on his every word. A harrowing experience at the end of a police officer’s gun. The kindly Jewish waiter who helped him read better. The radio announcer he studied every night to lose his accent. And the outright rejection by a respected theater director when he greenly walked into an audition unprepared. They’re insights into an icon’s origins.
They’re also the early signs of how and why Poitier’s life and career would...

In Sidney, the documentary about the life and career of Sidney Poitier, the actor sits in front of a minimal gray background and addresses the camera directly. The footage gives the effect that Poitier is recounting his life story directly to the audience and is particularly affecting given that the screen legend passed away at the beginning of this year at the age of 94.
The interview itself is several years old and was captured by Oprah Winfrey, who acts as an executive producer on the movie. For Sidney director Reginald Hudlin, who signed on to the project not knowing the footage where Poitier talks about his birth story, upbringing in the Bahamas and entry into entertainment in New York City existed, the access was near miraculous. He says, “We were always like, ‘We can do this.’ But then we like, ‘Oh, we can really do this.

Sidney Poitier wasn’t solely a pioneer or merely among his generation’s best actors; he was a complicated, flawed human, prone to mistakes and foibles. But you wouldn’t know the depth of those flaws or how lasting his mistakes were by watching the Apple TV+ documentary “Sidney.”
This documentary should be better, richer, and more comprehensive. It tells the self-made, rags-to-riches story of a singular talent through his own words.

The great acting legend Sidney Poitier died in January at age 94. He did not live to see the thrilling new documentary on his life and career, Sidney, which had its world premiere Saturday night at the Toronto Film Festival. However, it had its blessing, and that of his family, for a film that has been percolating and in development and then production for five years. And although Poitier himself didn’t get to see the finished work, everyone else will beginning on September 23 when it begins streaming on Apple TV+ and playing in selected theaters.
With Oprah Winfrey on board as a producer (with Derik Murray) and Reginald Hudlin as director, Poitier gets an extraordinarily comprehensive and wide-ranging look at his life told in linear fashion and narrated by himself through the use of eight hours of interview footage done in 2012 with Winfrey, as well as other archival interviews. Jennifer Lawrence brought serious starpower to the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, appearing at the world premiere of her new film “Causeway.”
But despite the big, Hollywood name “Causeway” was a quieter character study.
Lawrence stars in and produces the film, in which she plays a soldier returning to civilian life in New Orleans. The film also stars Brian Tyree Henry, Linda Emond, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Russell Harvard. “Causeway” is the feature directorial debut of theater veteran Lila Neugebauer, with a script written by Elizabeth Sanders, Luke Goebel and Ottessa Moshfegh.
Her character in the film, Lynsey, is desperate to redeploy. When asked what drove her towards the decision, Lawrence said she found a common ground. “I felt something in my gut when I read this,” she said. “That kind of immediate, ‘We have to make this.’ I identify with that feeling of trying to find your home.

Oprah Winfrey will executive produce and Reginald Hudlin will direct Sidney, a documentary about the artistry and activism of the late Sidney Poitier.
Sidney, the sweeping doc about the Hollywood legend, which will bow in Toronto ahead of a Sept. 23 launch on AppleTV+, got off the ground thanks in large part to the persistence of the film’s Canadian co-producer Derik Murray. “This is a story that in many ways is long overdue, about an individual who really made a difference, who was a leader for all of us in how he approached his life as a role model and a mentor,” Murray tells The Hollywood Reporter.
In summer 2018, the veteran film producer first pitched Poitier and his wife Joanna after being introduced by Hollywood talent agent Barry Krost. “The first time I met him, he walked into his own living room and...
