The game is made especially for children, so the game controls are very simple in comparison to other Sierra games: First, the player can have only one item in possession; if the item is a person or animal, it follows the child until reaching the character who needs it, or until another item is picked up. If it is inanimate item, it is seen in the right upper corner of the screen. Second, the player does not need to type commands like "take the item" or "open the door" - walking close to an item results in picking it up, and doors are automatically opened when the player walks through them. Third, the characters talk automatically to the player when he gets closer, telling what they need. Fourth, a picture of the requested item will be displayed above the character who asks for it, making it easy for the player to search for it. Fifth, the player cannot die. Sixth, the player can choose in the beginning the character which looks most like him or her.
The characters are always in the same screens. The items are scattered randomly, except the water can which is always found two screens east of Mother Goose's house.
Some of the inanimate items can be found inside the houses. However, any item found in specific house will never be the one requested by the house occupants.
Miss Muffet is the only character who requests to take her to the item she needs (the tuffet), rather than bring it to her.
The only item which the player is not specifically requested to retrieve is the cock-horse. The player must figure by himself where to bring it according to the corresponding rhyme - to the Banbury Cross.
