Prime Video is hoping to launch its own extended franchise universe in April with the premiere of international spy series “Citadel” from the minds of the Russo Brothers. The show stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, and is intended to be the first block of an interconnected story with different spinoffs in countries and regions around the world. The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.

New Delhi, Nov 24 (Ians) At the moment, Richie Mehta is basking in the glory coming his way, after scooping up the first International Emmy for India with his web series, Delhi Crime. The win is all the more special for the Canadian filmmaker of Indian origin because the series marked his debut on the digital platform.
Mehta, who has tried his hand at short and feature filmmaking, as well as the documentary format, says the win comes in sync with his plan to narrate stories that have a global outlook.
His first feature film "Amal" released in 2007. Set in modernday New Delhi, the film narrates the story of a poor autorickshaw driver named Amal Kumar. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Roshan Seth, and Seema Biswas, and won over 30 international awards, and was nominated for six Genie Awards including Best Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay. I’ve got a great award winning horror short film here for you to watch today called Midnight Delivery. The film was directed by Nathan Crooker, who previously made the short film Playback a few years ago. You can watch that here if you want.
The story for Midnight Delivery “begins when a mysterious gift is delivered to an unsuspecting woman’s door at the stroke of midnight. The woman’s morbid fascination entices her to examine the gift, unleashing a sinister evil from within.”
I really liked this short, it does a fantastic job of building up the tension and horror and it ends up delivering a fun and morbid payoff at the end.
Check out Midnight Delivery below and let us know what you think of it!

Welcome to “Playback,” a Variety / iHeartRadio podcast bringing you exclusive conversations with the talents behind many of today’s hottest films.
Director Christopher McQuarrie stops by the show today to discuss his latest high-octane thrill-ride, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.” McQuarrie had a long road to this place, taking off quickly in the industry with an Academy Award but soon settling into a groove where he could not get the projects he wanted to direct through the system with him at the helm. Coming into superstar Tom Cruise’s orbit, first with 2008’s “Valkyrie” (which he developed) and then as director of 2012’s “Jack Reacher”, changed everything. His recent additions to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise have revealed a filmmaker, just four movies in, at the very top of his game.

After the underperforming live-action effort “Tomorrowland,” writer-director Brad Bird is back in the animation realm this year with “Incredibles 2.” He was eager to dive back into the world of his original 2004 creation once again because the work that went into conjuring that Pixar animated hit was some of the most fun he’s had in his career. Fifteen years later, though, animation has obviously progressed quite a bit. So some of the old headaches weren’t there to cause trouble this time around.

Director: Roger Christian. Writer: Christian Piers Betley. Cast: Christian Slater, Brendan Fehr, Amy Matysio and Michael Therriault. This reviewer is going to have to remind himself to avoid direct-to-dvd releases starring actor Christian Slater (Playback). The last several releases that have hosted this actor have not been great, or even watchable. Slater's latest, Stranded, is another lackluster effort. And this time, events take place, B-movie style, in space. Stranded borrows several sci-fi elements from other films and the delivery of this space set semi-thriller is lackluster. The film follows four crew members on the Moon Base Ark or Vargas. A meteor strike knocks out their communications (of course) and there is a general loss of power, heat and oxygen supplies. To top it off, the meteors contain an alien spore, which is soon contaminating everyone and everything, including character Ava's (Amy Matysio) womb. A creature is hatched and air ducts are used for devious.

Sylvester Stallone Bullet to the Head box office: Worst Stallone opening weekend in more than three decades? The Sylvester Stallone action movie Bullet to the Head is about to become the worst-performing Stallone star vehicle opening in wide release in North America since — at least — the box-office bomb Victory back in 1981, or possibly going all the way back to Paradise Alley in 1978. Opening-weekend figures for Victory, which cumed at $10.85m (approximately $30.5m today), are unavailable at Box Office Mojo, but Bullet in the Head is expected to gross an abysmal $5m by Sunday evening, after collecting $1.73m at 2,404 locations. (Photo: Sylvester Stallone Bullet to the Head.) Once inflation is factored in, in the last three decades no other Sylvester Stallone movie in wide release has opened as disastrously as Bullet to the Head; not even the John Landis’ crime comedy Oscar (1991), the Stallone-written action drama Over the Top (1987), the Stallone-...

Set in 1974, Freaky Deaky zeroes in on Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke, Red Riding Hood), a former member of the Detroit Police bomb squad who begins to get a real taste for juggling dynamite when he’s transferred to the sex crimes unit. After falling for the lovely Greta Wyatt (Sabina Gadecki), he gets suspended for investigating the rich, powerful and drunk Woody Ricks (Crispin Glover, Hot Tub Time Machine). Taking matters into his own hands, Mankowski quickly realizes it won’t be easy to get justice for Greta, but maybe it can happen with some unintentional assistance from former Black Panther Donnell Lewis (Michael Jai White, TV’s For Better or Worse), sexy...

Ambyr Childers (Gangster Squad, Playback) stars in the rural psychological thriller We Are What We Are alongside Julia Garner, Bill Sage, and Wyatt Russell.
We Are What We Are, picked up by eOne Entertainment this year in Berlin, is directed by Stake Land's Jim Mickle and is based on the 2010 Mexican film and Cannes Film Festival entry Somo Lo Que Hay. Andrew D. Corkin and Nicholas Shumaker produce.
Mickle moved Mexican director Jorge Michel Grau’s picture about a family of cannibals from its original setting of Mexico City to a poor part of the Catskills region in New York state.

Christian Slater's name above the title couldn't pull 'em in.
The film Playback has the dubious distinction of being the lowest-grossing movie released in 2012. Never heard of it? Apparently, only a handful of people did. The film, starring Christian Slater, took in an opening night gross of $252 with $12 earned during the week. In fairness, however, the movie only played in one theater for one week. In some cases, movies get limited theatrical releases in order to fulfill contractual obligations or to aid in the marketing of a DVD release, whereby the studio can technically say the movie played theatrically. No matter how you cut it, however, Playback offered no payback for investors: its budgeted was $7.5 million. For more click here...

When it came out in late August, Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure was the target of one joke headline after another. While the film looked like it was aiming to be the next big thing in children's entertainment, and managed to attach actors like Christopher Llyod, Cary Elwes and Cloris Leachman, it wound up only making $443,901 dollars in its opening weekend and ranked all the way back at #26 on the box office chart. But as big a disaster as Oogieloves was, it's not even close to the lowest grossing title of the year. That prestigious honor, according to Movieline, belongs to the Christian Slater-starring thriller Playback. According to the site's statistics, the movie only ever made it into one theater and it only lasted for one week, pulling in a grand total of $264 (and that number isn't missing any zeros). It sold $252 worth of tickets opening night, and...

With 2013 just around the corner, folks have been busy wrapping up their lists of both the best and worst of the year in film. But what about the movies no one cared about? Each week sees the release of more movies than anyone can care to catch up with, and inevitablysome fall through the cracks or are simply swept under the rug by their distributor. And in 2012, the dubious distinction of being the movie that audiences cared about the least falls on "Playback." Starring Christian Slater, the very low rent movie is basically a ripoff of "The Ring" about a videotape of some brutal murders that is causing some supernatural trouble years later. Perhaps it's the best we can expect from director Michael A. Nickles, whose previous claim to "fame," is "Just Peck," some family comedy starring Keir Gilchrist and Brie Larson that went straight to video earlier this year.

While 2012 has been a big year for movies, it also played host to some major box office bombs. Children's movie "Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure" famously crashed-and-burned, taking the title for the lowest-grossing wide release of all time, Tyler Perry's critically panned "Alex Cross" made $10 million less than its budget, and Gerard Butler's surfing flick "Chasing Mavericks" saw a total gross of just $5 million.
But the film that made the absolute least money this year? A little movie by the name of "Playback," starring Christian Slater. The horror film showed for one week at one movie theater, earning a total gross of $264. "Playback" played the week of March 16 - 22. Calculations from The Daily Mail show that approximately 33 people bought tickets to the movie to reach this total.

Now that 2012 is coming to an end, we're taking a look back at the highest and the lowest grossing movies of the year. "The Avengers" earned over 1.5 billion globally, becoming the highest-grossing film. Meanwhile, Christian Slater's horror thriller "Playback" became the lowest-grossing film by earning $252 when it opened in one theater back in March. It went on to take in another $12 for a worldwide total of $264. In other words, only about thirty people went to see the movie. The pathetic amount of $264 is not the record. Tom Sizemore's "Zyzzyxx Road" still holds that honor by earning $30 globally. "Playback" Trailer:...

There are many ways to determine the best and worst movies of the year. You can look at movie reviews — Rotten Tomatoes has Kirby Dick's The Invisible War at the top of the list with a rating of 100% and the Eddie Murphy vehicle A Thousand Words at the bottom with a rating of 0% — or you can tabulate box office receipts — The Avengers is the clear leader with global sales in excess of $1.46 million, while Playback starring Christian Slater earned just $264 (that's no typo!). But, we at Reelz know that the opinions of the moviegoing public — your opinions — matter just as much as those of the critics and bean-counters, which is why we took to the streets to ask which movies were the best and the worst of the year (so far).

A bit (or should we say bite?) of casting news is here for Jim Mickle's upcoming remake of the bizarre tale of cannibalism We Are What We Are (review here), and we have to say if all cannibals looked like this, there's be lots of people vying for a spot on the menu!
Ambyr Childers (pictured; Gangster Squad, Playback) is set to star in the rural psychological thriller We Are What We Are alongside Riley Keough, Julia Garner, Bill Sage, and Wyatt Russell.
We Are What We Are, picked up by eOne Entertainment this year in Berlin, is being directed by Stake Land's Jim Mickle and is based on the 2010 Mexican film and Cannes Film Festival entry Somo Lo Que Hay. Andrew D. Corkin and Nicholas Shumaker will produce.
Mickle will transpose Mexican director Jorge Michel Grau’s picture about a family of cannibals from its original setting...

Outside of the highly anticipated Rust & Bone from helmer Jacques Audiard, Celluloid Dreams is much more immersed in the market aspect of Cannes this year. Headed by Hengameh Panahi, Celluloid Dreams brings to some noteworthy Cannes this year, but outside of that doesn’t have anything to front. The Rambler, The Side Effect are noteworthy projects worth keeping tabs on, while Dormant Beauty starring the just Isabelle Huppert who is on some Cannes auteur bucket list drive and Dan Algrant’s debut Greetings from Tim Buckley (see pic above) should be top tier items drawing plenty of buyer interest.
City State (Borgriki) by Olaf De Fleur Johannesson
Dead Mine by Steven Sheil

A visual theme that falls in with a film’s plot or pace can help to further immerse the audience in the story, like Paul Greengrass’s choice of “shakey cam” giving the sense of body movement in intense action sequences, but sometimes it can work against the Director. Michael A. Nickles’s Playback is a perfect example of a style that sabotages its story; constant artificial static and film distortions might seem like an appropriate flourish for a film about a demon using a video tech to do his evil bidding through cameras and possessions, but it ultimately detracts from the viewing experience. Even without that failed visual gimmick Playback doesn’t have what it takes to get off the ground as the characters are basic teenaged victims with no real personalities to speak of and the plot succeeds in neither thrills nor chills.

This week's DVD and Blu-ray crop is definitely looking a little sparse, but on the bright side... at least it's got shrim! Underworld: Awakening and The Vow are the two major releases that will compete for shelf space in most retail stores, but if neither of those really interest you there are a handful of indie flicks including Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie, Darren Lynn Bousman's Mother's Day remake, and Playback starring Christian Slater. Oskar Jonasson's Icelandic thriller Reykjavik to Rotterdam, which was recently remade as Contraband, also finally gets a North American DVD release this week, while Gremlins 2: The New Batch and La Haine both make their debut on Blu-ray. What will you be buying or renting this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump. Amazon.com Widgets

If IMDb is anything to go by, Hiro Kanagawa makes an appearance in tonight's episode of Fairly Legal, "Ripple of Hope." He will also be appearing in Robert Redford's upcoming thriller The Company You Keep, as "FBI Agent Kanagawa."
Deadline reported this week that Grimm writers are already working on the show's second season, which might be premiering sooner than expected, in August. Here is the synopsis for tonight's episode:
Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are called to investigate the mysterious death of a wealthy matriarch, after her stepdaughter loses everything in a Ponzi scheme. Magnet Releasing is one of those companies that horror & genre fans love. They do right by us by acquiring unique films and releasing them via VOD prior to a theatrical release. Then, if you miss those releases, soon after, they hit DVD, Blu-Ray and, usually, Netflix. Playback is one of those films that I meant to check out but never got the opportunity. However, since it is Magnet, I should have plenty of options to watch it now.

It's been a while since the last proper news roundup, so some of the news today won't be all that new. Posting it anyway in case anyone missed it elsewhere.
Fairly Legal is back tonight at 9 pm on USA. Esai Morales guest stars in the season premiere and will be appearing in several more episodes. Other BSG and Caprica folks appearing on the show this season include Michael Hogan, Ben Cotton and Zak Santiago. And yeah, Michael Trucco is still a regular.
The Voice of TV has some recent Bts pics, and Buddy TV talked to Esai (more at the link):
What do we need to know about Esai Morales' character?
Esai Morales: I'm playing Aaron Davidson, thank you. No hablo espanol in this show... I am a politician, District Attorney. I am, I guess, a bit of a quintessential slimeball. Sleazebag is how I've been described,...

I strongly encourage you to check out this edition of Dead Air and it’s not because I do the write ups for the darn thing. Truth be told, this is one of the funniest episodes yet with more than just your daily fill of news, movies watch list and in depth analysis of an independent genre movie. We’re talking about Jesse Bartel and Ted Brown creating some truly entertaining audio alongside our man in the great north, Jeff Konopka. Let’s get into some of the menu items on this week’s edition so you know that I’m not fibbing.
Obviously the crew will be discussing at great length the new feature from IFC Films, Atm. You have three guys with three very different opinions who will jockey for supremacy and try to get convince you that there side of the story is correct. That’s a menage a trois of opinions.

Playback came to my attention one day with one hell of a Red Band trailer that showed off its impressive gore and good-looking cast, hinting at a fun slasher film with one of those supernatural twists.
So I decided to track it down – and does it deliver?
Writer-Director Michael A. Nickles’ feature does indeed have its unsettling moments and startling gore but what’s disappointing here is that Playback feels like it’s borrowed from several other horror films and offers little in the way of anything fresh.
Even the bunch of nameless teens – themselves making a horror film for their journalism elective at school – reference the horror films that "Playback" feels in the vein of.
The Ring and Scream are referenced at one point by the characters while another makes a cheeky jab at how the found footage genre – an element so crucial to...

It's hard to tell what's more irritating about Playback: its insistence of being an amalgam of The Ring, Scream, and a randomly tiresome slasher flick at the same time; its staunch reliance on completely unpleasant and unsavory characters; or the brief presence of Christian Slater, who was once a pretty cool actor and is now a pretty cool actor who appears in some pretty bad movies. Hardly Mr. Slater's worst horror movie, Playback is instead simply too rote, too obvious, too familiar, and too beholden to well-established horror tropes to warrant much consideration. A bunch of obnoxious teens do some digging into the history of a legendarily evil filmmaker, only to unleash a videotape that (you guessed it) can kill...

Entering multiplexes this weekend we have the first real blockbuster of the year in John Carter, but it won't be easy for Disney, as they have to compete directly with the incredibly successful animated film The Lorax in its second week. Elsewhere, horror fans can watch found footage in real time with the remake of Silent House, while the Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words could be a dark horse at the box office despite an almost complete lack of marketing. In select theatres, Ewan McGregor stars in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, several Bridesmaids cast members re-unite for Friends with Kids, and Christian Slater battles evil spirits in Playback. What will you be watching this weekend? On Friday, the dreams of thousands (hundreds?) will come true when "John Carter" comes to the big screen. But will the film have enough strength to top the previous weekend's No. 1? Last Sunday, "The Lorax" surprised everyone by tallying a $70 million opening. (Don't underestimate the power of Dr. Seuss. Also, Taylor Swift!) To find out if Mars (erm, Barsoom) can hold off the rest of the competition, lets take a look at Moviefone's Weekend Movie Preview. Nationwide Releases "John Carter" What's the story: Based on the popular Edgar Rice Burroughs' series, "John Carter of Mars," "John Carter" is the first live-action feature film from Pixar vet Andrew Stanton ("Wall-e"). The movie follows John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), a Civil War soldier who gets mysteriously transported to Mars (it's called Barsoom in the story) and winds up in a battle to save its people. Willem Defoe co-stars as a Barsoomian named Tars Tarkas.

While working on a research project, a group of high school students discover dark secrets behind a grisly set of murders in the town’s past. As the teens uncover details of the fateful account, they get caught deeper in an intricate web of paranormal happenings and pandemonium. The town’s violent past is catching up to the students. They will have to outsmart the malevolent forces at work if they intend to stand a chance against the demonic camera lenses in this bizarre horror thriller.
Written and directed by Michael A. Nickles, Playback is, overall, a disappointment. It’s well below average. Nothing about the film stands out. Writer-director Michael A. Nickles brings us Playback, a horror film (‘based on true stories’, like many horror films) starring Christian Slater (True Romance), and distributed by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing, who’ve also distributed the likes of The Troll Hunter, Hobo with a Shotgun, 13 Assassins, and Gareth Edwards’ brilliant feature debut, Monsters.

Trailers have the ability to psyche us up, freak us out, turn us off, and lead us very, very astray, but the heightened anticipation (they don’t call them teasers for nothing) is part of the fun, regardless of how accurate a representation of the film that cleverly constructed little bugger ends up being in the end. Here’s a little commentary on a selection of recent genre trailers; let’s both judge a book by its cover and appraise the cover itself.
The Snowtown Murders (Justin Kurzel, in theaters March 2nd)
I always feel wary of trailers that start off with “true story” or facts and figures and location information, as if these are the film’s strongest selling point and said framing is required to appreciate it, but this trailer definitely evokes a grittily menacing Australian suburbs vibe pretty quickly. The tension between what initially appears to be...
