In the scene in the film where Nikki and a group of animal rights protesters are picketing in front of the Park Ranger station, one of the protesters can be seen wearing an Electric Youth-era Debbie Gibson T-shirt and another one wearing a Tiffany "Hold An Old Friends Hand" Album Tour shirt.
In the film's Miami invasion scene, a python bites a blimp marked with The Asylum's logo.
At the end of the party brawl between Nikki (Debbie Gibson) and Terry (Tiffany), Nikki says, "I think... we're alone now." followed by Terry saying, "There doesn't seem to be anyone around." These lines are in reference to a song covered by Tiffany in her 1987 self-titled debut album. "I Think We're Alone Now" reached #1 on the Billboard charts in the U.S.
During an argument before the party brawl, Terry (Tiffany) tells Nikki (Debbie Gibson), "Only in your dreams!". This is a reference to Gibson's 1986 hit single "Only In My Dreams".
The film was made at both Griffith Park and the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Los Angeles, California, which acted as stand-in settings for Florida.
