Peacock has announced the lineup of movies, TV shows, and live sports that will be available on the streaming service in April. The Peacock April 2024 schedule includes Orlando Bloom: To the Edge, Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal, Migration, all six seasons of Community, and more.

Orlando Bloom: To the Edge is an original series that follows Bloom on a journey of self-discovery, pushing his physical and mental limits to reach his personal edge of what is possible.

Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal is a documentary chronicling Windham’s incredible rise to worldwide fame as a WWE superstar and the struggles and success that came with being a creative visionary.

Subscribers can also look forward to new episodes of Superbuns and Illumination’s Migration will take flight on the streaming service.

Prime Video’s big February drop is Mr. & Mrs. Smith! No, not the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie action movie, but a new TV series kinda based on it starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The set up for the show version? Glover and Erskine are two strangers who both get jobs at a shady spy agency and are asked to get married so that they can pretend to be a couple undercover, but things get more complicated when they start falling in love for real. Exclusive: Dctv, the nonprofit acclaimed as “New York City’s preeminent community of and for documentary storytellers,” is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series spotlighting the work of Dctv founders, the filmmaking couple Keiko Tsuno and Jon Alpert.

The series Dctv @ 50 kicks off September 21 at Dctv Firehouse Cinema in lower Manhattan with a screening of Third Avenue: Only the Strong Survive, a 1980 documentary directed by Tsuno and produced by Alpert. The filmmakers will participate in a Q&a as part of the evening’s program.

The September 26 program for the Dctv @ 50 series will be dedicated to exploring the documentary legacy of late actor James Gandolfini, who joined the Dctv board in 2012, a year before his untimely death at age 51.

National Geographic’s The First Wave took home the top award at the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards in New York City on Thursday.

Matthew Heineman’s documentary details the first four months of the Covid-19 pandemic in NYC, as healthcare workers at Long Island Jewish Medical Center risked their lives in the epic battle to keep the virus at bay.

Presenters at the Documentary ceremony included Frontline’s Tamara Shogaolu, In the Shadow of 9/11 and Four Hours at the Capitol’s Dan Reed, The Rescue‘s Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, Pray Away‘s Kristine Stolakis and Vice News’ Alzo Slade.

Biologist and filmmaker Sir David Attenborough received the Lifetime Achievement honors at the ceremony, which was presented to him by Louie Schwartzberg, the award-winning cinematographer, time-lapse photographer and documentarian. Dame Judi Dench also appeared via video to celebrate Attenborough.

Manhattan’s Downtown Community Television Center celebrated the opening of the media arts center’s long-anticipated nonprofit, 67-seat movie theater, Firehouse: Dctv’s Cinema for Documentary Film, on Tuesday.

The only movie theater in New York City dedicated to screening documentaries, Firehouse is an official Academy Award-qualifying theater that will screen first-run films and curated programs.

On Sept. 23, Abigail Disney and Kathleen Hughes’ self-distributed “The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales” about the growing inequalities in America and better pay for Disneyland cast members, will be the inaugural docu to play at Firehouse cinema. The week-long screening will serve as the film’s qualifying run in New York. Disney is set to appear in person for opening weekend Q&As.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”

Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

A new season of “The Boys,” the latest “Bond” movie and the entire “Twilight” franchise are among the new streaming additions to Amazon Prime Video in June. The highly anticipated “The Boys” Season 3 is set to premiere on June 3 with the first three episodes of the season, followed by one new episode weekly.

The Jenny Han adaptation “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” a new YA series, premieres on June 17. And Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie “No Time to Die” makes its streaming debut on Prime Video on June 10.

As far as noteworthy library titles go, this is also your new streaming home for the “Twilight” franchise, while “Shaun of the Dead,” “Galaxy Quest” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox” will all be streaming starting June 1.

Waters, who has background in both TV and film development, comes from Temple Hill Entertainment, where she spent six years, most recently serving as VP, Development & Production. Eleven months in to 2021, and Warner Bros. movie streaming strategy on HBO Max is still going strong. Now the list of new releases for November 2021 on HBO Max is highlighted by yet another big ticket film.

King Richard, starring Will Smith, is set to arrive on HBO Max and in theaters on Nov. 19. The movie will tell the story of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. Exclusive: HBO announced the upcoming documentary Black And Missing from Emmy Award winners Geeta Gandbhir and Soledad O’Brien that will focus on Black missing persons cases. Black And Missing will premiere on HBO with two back-to-back episodes on Nov. 23 followed by the release of the remaining pair of episodes on Nov. 24. All episodes will be available to stream after airing on HBO Max.

The four-parter, which was three years in the making, follows Black and Missing Foundation founders Derrica and Natalie Wilson as they dive into specific cases and break down how systemic behaviors and attitudes stem from centuries of deeply rooted racism. The docuseries also exposes the stark disparity in the media coverage of white and black missing persons. By keeping these stories and the missing in the news media, Derrica and Natalie put increased pressure on police departments to keep cases open and active.

The International Documentary Association came out with its shortlist of the year’s best documentaries today, a list as notable for what was left out as what made it in.

A total of 29 feature films earned a spot on the IDA shortlist, including some considered Oscar frontrunners: Summer of Soul, Ascension, and Flee—each of which earned nominations last week for both the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards and the Gotham Awards. But several other films making a strong bid for Oscar attention were snubbed, among them The Rescue, Becoming Cousteau, Attica, Procession, and My Name Is Pauli Murray.

November is a good month for saying goodbye on HBO Max. Taking place September 1 through 11, the Venice Film Festival has now unveiled its lineup, after a few teases of what it contains (the opening night selection of Madres Paralelas by Pedro Almodovar and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune). Among the selections are Jane Campion’s The Power of a Dog, Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter, Pablo Larrain’s Spencer, Ana Lily Amirpour’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter, Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, Paolo Sorrentino’s The Hand of God, and Edgar Wright’s The Last Night in Soho will premiere there, along with new shorts by Radu Jude and Tsai Ming-liang.

The 2021 Cannes Film Festival brought the international film circuit back to life in roaring fashion earlier this month (French filmmaker Julia Ducournau became the second woman director to win the Palme d’Or thanks to Neon release “Titane”), and next up are the trio of major fall film festivals in September: the Venice Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and Toronto International Film Festival. Venice is first out of the gate by launching its 78th edition Wednesday, September 1. The lineup for Venice 2021 has now been revealed.

While the first day of spring technically belongs to March, everyone knows that it kicks into high gear in April. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, Hulu is finally bringing back its signature original series for April 2021.

Season 4 of the multiple Emmy award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on April 28. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen June and her dystopian world. In fact, it’s been so long that our own world decided to endure its own dystopian pandemic in the meantime. Hopefully this series’ return will mean we can keep our political and social collapses on television where they belong.

Aside from The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu isn’t brining much else to the table in terms of originals this month. Thankfully, the one other original that Hulu has in store for April sounds completely righteous. Sasquatch, the latest docuseries from the Duplass brothers producing team, will cover exactly what the title promises.

Exclusive: The Good Wife alum Dallas Roberts, Clea Lewis (The Americans) and Nicole Chanel Williams (Boomerang) are set for recurring roles in Showtime drama series American Rust, starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney. The series is scheduled to begin production in Pittsburgh in late March.

Based on Philipp Meyer’s debut novel American Rust, the family drama will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.

In addition to Roberts and Tierney, American Rust also stars Bill Camp, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter and newcomer Julia Mayorga.

Roberts will play Jackson Berg, who is struggling to hang onto his own pharmacy through tough economic times and the rabid expansion of chain drugstores.

Bekka Bowling is adapting the screenplay for “The Switch,” which is set up at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan is set to star in and executive produce a dramedy called “The Switch” set up at Amblin Partners, in which she’ll play a woman who swaps lives with her grandmother, Amblin announced Tuesday.

Amblin acquired the rights to the novel “The Switch” by Beth O’Leary and has tapped Bekka Bowling to adapt the screenplay. “The Switch” was released in the UK last month and is already a Sunday Times Bestseller.

“The Post” producer Kristie Macosko Krieger, a two-time Oscar nominee, will produce the film, and the author of “The Switch” O’Leary will executive produce alongside Brosnahan.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to After Class, the family comedy starring Justin Long and Fran Drescher that had its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival under the title Safe Spaces.

Daniel Schechter wrote and directed the pic, which co-stars Richard Schiff, Lynn Cohen, Kate Berlant and Michael Godere. The distributor will release the pic in theaters day-and-date December 6.

Long plays a New York college professor who aims for his classroom to be a safe space for students, but a lesson plan pushes students to share more than they wish, forcing him take a deeper look at whether safe spaces live up to their name. He escapes from the college controversy to reconnect with his own unique family, who are navigating how to deal with the

emotions of having an ailing grandmother.

Courtenay Johnson, Lawrence Greenberg and Jordan Kessler are producers.

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that several of its original shows will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in December, including the second season of the Emmy-winning comedy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and the lavish costume drama “Vanity Fair.”

Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first appearances on Amazon Prime Video including those featuring Oscar-winning turns by Kevin Kline (“A Fish Called Wanda”) and Timothy Hutton (“Ordinary People”).

Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month. We’ve done some digging and unearthed a few titles that will be exiting Amazon Prime Video in the first week of December. News of these is detailed at the bottom of this post.

Justin Kelly’s “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy,” the closing-night film at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, occupies a difficult slot at the mammoth festival. Tiff’s closing-night films typically don’t go on to enjoy significant commercial or critical success, more often destined for quick obscurity in the U.S. market.

Last year’s closing film, for instance, was the French comedy “C’est La Vie!” Before that, “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Mr. Right” at least made a little noise at the box office, “A Little Chaos” and “Life of Crime” less so.

But there’s good news and bad news for “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy,” which stars Laura Dern and Kristen Stewart and had its first press screening on Monday in advance of Saturday’s closing-night gala.

Edgar Wright is going to deliver one of the best movies of the summer when “Baby Driver” opens in theaters June 28, but before he does he’s looking back at the classic car chase movies that inspired his latest high-energy genre ride. Written by Glenn Standring (“The Dead Lands”), “6 Days” chronicles the events that took place during the Iranian Embassy siege, from April 30 to May 5, 1980, when a group of terrorists occupied the Iranian Embassy in London and took everyone inside hostage. The historic standoff ended when a group of soldiers from the British Special Air Service stormed the building in what was called Operation– Nimrod. Composers Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart, aka The Newton Brothers, score Stx Entertainment’s supernatural horror thriller, The Bye Bye Man.

The film stars Douglas Smith, Lucien Laviscount, Cressida Bonas and Doug Jones. Directed by Stacy Title and written by Jonathan Penner, “The Bye Bye Man” follows the story of three college students move into an old, off-campus house. They quickly find themselves hunted by a supernatural entity called The Bye Bye Man who may be responsible for possessing various people and causing them to commit killing sprees throughout recent history. The students discover the origins of the Bye Bye Man and find that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don’t say or think his name, because once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control.

Bye Bye Man opens in theatres on January 13, 2016. The soundtrack album featuring the score is available on Sony Classical.

Mash together True Lies and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Remove all the wit and all the sexy charm. Get rid of the action thrills. Eliminate all satirical metaphoric commentary on marriage and suburban living. And then have your head examined: Who on Earth could possibly think this was the recipe for a movie that anyone would want to see? And yet here we have Keeping Up with the Joneses, which appears to have been created to precisely this plan.

Nothing is funny here. Nothing. It’s so perfectly unfunny that it almost seems deliberate.

Limp and lifeless, Joneses gives us...

How’d that beloved tune from the “pre-fab four” go? “Another Pleasant Valley Sunday, here in status-symbol land”. Well, they might’ve been crooning about the locale of this new comedy. Everybody’s lawn is perfect, right out of American Beauty. Maybe even “picture perfect”, but more than a bit dull. Some of the residents perhaps secretly hope that things will get shaken up a tad. Ah, be careful what you wish for, so goes the old saying. That’s what happened in the final John Belushi/Dan Aykroyd team-up in 1981, Neighbors. But instead of that off-kilter, way-too friendly couple, the new arrivals bore more than a passing resemblance to Mr. & Mrs. Smith (not the Hitchcock comedy, but the first pairing of Pitt and Jolie). That’s the premise, as two “normals” risk life and limb when they’re Keeping Up With The Joneses.

This is the kind of movie movies were invented for: big, visceral, and intense, a heart-stopping adventure that has you catching your breath and gasping in shock as it takes you places most of us will never get to so as to engage in the sort of life-threatening thrills that, paradoxically, remind us that we are alive. That’s an argument that safety-minded homebodies like me scoff at when risk-takers make it, but Everest makes you understand it deep in your gut.

24 hours after honoring The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones with the first prize of the 30th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Cinema Vanguard Award, Sbiff feted Cake’s Jennifer Aniston with the second, the Montecito Award, in a ceremony at the Arlington Theatre on Friday night at which the Emmy-winning Friends star was very warm and very warmly received by a packed house.

Over the course of a two-hour conversation moderated by Deadline’s Pete Hammond, Aniston, the 45-year-old daughter of a veteran soap opera star, reflected on her post-Friends jumps between commercial films (i.e. 2004’s Along Came Polly, 2005’s Rumor Has It, 2008’s Marley & Me, 2011’s Horrible Bosses and 2013’s We’re the Millers, etc.) and indies (i.e. 1999’s Office Space, 2002’s The Good Girl, 2013’s Life of Crime and her most recent, 2014’s Cake) of varying quality.

★★☆☆☆ Based on Elmore Leonard novel The Switch (presumably the rather prosaic retitling was to stop confusion with star Jennifer Aniston's 2010 comedy of that name) Life of Crime (2013) actually received a limited cinema release, although upon viewing, you'd be forgiven into thinking you had just witnessed a straight-to-video feature. Despite a fine and very able cast, this a plodding and mostly characterless affair. The DVD cover art makes reference to the film being a prequel to Jackie Brown (1997), although this is a spurious claim (the respective sources share a couple of characters) and comparisons between the two only underscore the superiority of Tarantino's adaptation.
