In this show Voltron has five configurations: each lion can form Voltron's head and torso, and provide Voltron with a specific weapon. This is based on Lightspeed Electroid Albegas (1983), known officially as the third Voltron series (as it was marketed as such but never came to the US); it had a Voltron made from three robots that could interchange its formation to provide different powers.
Garry Chalk is the second Optimus Prime actor from the Transformers franchise to appear in a Voltron show, after Peter Cullen. He had played Optimus Prime in the Transformers Unicron Trilogy (Transformers Armada, Energon and Cybertron).
The music played when the lions combine to form Voltron seems to be the very same music that was used in the original series.
