The slasher mash-up Freddy vs. Jason just celebrated its 20th anniversary six months ago, and now we have some very sad news to share about one of its cast members: Chris Gauthier, who played the Jason victim Shack in the film, has passed away at the age of 48. Variety reports that Gauthier passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from “an unspecified short illness”.

In addition to Freddy vs. Jason, where his character was felled by a flaming machete thrown by Jason during the cornfield rave sequence, Gauthier’s acting credits included 40 Days and 40 Nights, Insomnia, Agent Cody Banks, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Dead Like Me, Riding the Bullet, Stargate: Atlantis, Masters of Horror (where he had a role in John Carpenter’s Cigarette Burns), The Butterfly Effect 2, Stargate: The Ark of Truth, Supernatural, Space Buddies, Watchmen, Harper’s Island, Sanctuary, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Iron Golem, Smallville, Continuum, Eureka, R.L. It's been over a year since we've mentioned Ghost Storm, but now the flick is set to premiere on Syfy this Saturday, November 10th, and we finally have a trailer to share!

Crystal Allen of Anaconda III & IV, Carlos Bernard of “24”, Aaron Douglas of “Battlestar Galactica”, and Cindy Busby of the popular Canadian drama “Heartland” star in this supernatural disaster flick written and directed by one of the true kings of Syfy cinema, Paul Ziller, the maker of Loch Ness Terror, Snakehead Terror, Iron Invader, and Stonehenge Apocalypse, amongst many others.

Originally titled Iron Invader, which may have been a self-conscious throwback to now gleefully cheesy monster flicks of the 1950's, Metal Shifters offers little in the way of mass monsterdom, instead focusing on one hunk of metal infected by outer space bacteria. That's the least of the film's problems really, as this SyFy channel production belongs on a long list of films that are long on ambition and woefully short on just about everything else. Wasting little time in setting up the story of a very, very small town and two brothers, Jake (Kavan Smith) and Ethan (Colby Johannson) scoring a quick buck while dumping some satellite scrap metal with Earl (Donnelly Rhodes), the town nutcase. Earl is working on a metal "golem" to commemorate the town's centennial, but when space bacteria grabs hold and enlivens the metal beast, the creature hungers for some iron-rich blood (yes) and goes on the hunt.

Much to my disappointment, Ghost Storm is not a disaster-horror hybrid about a supernatural storm cloud that rains ghostly ectoplasm which steals the souls of everyone it touches. Or is it?

No, actually, it isn’t. But doesn’t that sound like a perfect pitch for a Syfy flick? As does the actual plot of Ghost Storm, and not surprisingly, since it happens to be a Syfy original movie currently in the works.

An action packed chase led by Hal and Ashley to save the people on this small island from a strange electrical storm which is led by angry souls from a mass suicide looking for revenge.

Electrical storm? Angry souls? Mass suicide? I hope the ending involves a meteorological exorcism involving the use of Kool-Aid because that would be… I shouldn’t be giving stuff like that away for free; gotta save it for my raining ectoplasm flick.
