2017-11-06T07:23:20-08:00Lamar Odom Collapses at Night Club
Former NBA player and Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Lamar Odom collapsed at a Los Angeles nightclub over the weekend. The incident brought back memories of a near-fatal collapse that Odom suffered two years ago in a brothel in Nevada, after which he spent some time recovering in the hospital. Odom claimed that his 2015 collapse had nothing to do with alcohol or drugs, but he did check himself into rehab the following year. Sunday's collapse was blamed by Odom's publicist on dehydration and exhaustion, a malady that is the go-to explanation for nearly every mysterious celebrity health scare.

Lamar Odom collapsed at L.A. nightclub Bootsy Bellows in the early hours of Sunday, November 5.
In a video posted by TMZ, the former Lakers star fell to the ground in his VIP booth at the Sunset Strip nightclub.

Christiano Dias’ short film, “Hurricane,” cleverly uses a seemingly past time filled with xenophobic tendencies to mirror the present state of the country. Placed against the backdrop of The Cold War and the lingering panic of McCarthyism, “Hurricane” highlights the ways in which hysteria can lead to impulsive action with severe consequences.
As Dias has said of the award-winning short, “Much like the Cold War sparked the same fears of Communism in the 1950s, the growing threat of terrorism can lead many people to ‘over-react’ concerning these same insecurities. Additionally, some of the same feelings toward Russia and Communism as a whole have started to re-emerge and wanted to show that history is very capable of repeating itself yet again.” It’s a concept that seems all too familiar these days.

Richard Spencer, a prominent member of the so-called “alt-right” who has called for “peaceful ethnic cleansing,” was punched in the face following Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday. As you can imagine, a wave of sympathy (read: gifs, memes and hashtags) immediately followed after video of the incident made its way online. Among the many to chime in is Tim Heidecker of “Tim and Eric,” who recorded a song called “Richard Spencer.” Listen below.

It sounds inconceivable that the first high quality footage to come out of the Chernobyl nuclear accident site was shot by a crew of Spaniards. But that’s exactly how “Graffiti,” Participant Media’s Oscar entry for live-action short, got made.
The notorious nuclear disaster occurred in the now-abandoned town of Pripyat, Ukraine, which was the perfect setting for the post-apocalyptic drama about a man who fills his days tagging walls with graffiti and discovers he might not be as alone as he thought. Empty pools, dilapidated ferris wheels, and hollowed out Brutalist buildings provide a stunning backdrop for the messages he exchanges with a companion he never sees.

In a behind-the-scenes feature, Spanish director Lluis Quilez (“Out of the Dark”) explains how the intrepid crew surmounted understandable reservations to document the bleak and snowy town.

“Forget it, Jake. It’s Water & Power” is probably never said aloud in the Sundance-bound documentary “Water & Power: A California Heist,” but that doesn’t mean you should dismiss Marina Zenovich’s film outright. Zenovich, who previously directed “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired,” tells the Hollywood Reporter that Polanski’s 1974 neo-noir is one of her favorite movies in part because she loves “that world of greed and the lengths people will go to get what they want.” Watch the trailer for “Water & Power” below.

More than 10 years after President Bartlet left the White House, “The West Wing” continues to feel relevant — maybe now more than ever. On the eve of this Friday’s presidential inauguration, “Hamilton” creator/star Lin-Manuel Miranda has written a new song for the West Wing Weekly podcast named after one of the political drama’s most oft-repeated questions: “What’s Next?” Watch below.

“Ginger get the popcorn / The filibuster is in / I’m Toby Ziegler with the drop in / What kind of day has it been?” begins the track, which is accompanied by footage of the show. Created by Aaron Sorkin, “The West Wing” ran for seven seasons between 1999 and 2006 and took place in what increasingly seems like an alternate reality where our elected officials do their utmost to serve the American people rather than themselves.

When he isn’t composing music for filmmakers like David Fincher (“The Social Network”), Peter Berg (“Patriots Day”) or Ken Burns (“The Vietnam War”), Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor does what a lot of artists do: rage against opinionated internet users. In a new interview with Yahoo! Music, Reznor does just that — especially since he thinks it results in “made to please, vegan restaurant patron-type shit.”

“What has crept in is that everyone’s a commentator now,” Reznor laments. “The internet is giving voice to everybody thinking that someone gives a shit what they have to say and they have the right. I think, in general, that has created a toxic environment for artists and led to some very safe music. Artists are trying to make music to please the tastemakers that tell the sheep what to like.

Few bands of the last 20 years have inspired a more devoted following than Radiohead. That devotion is on full display all over the internet, most recently in a 14-minute dissection of the Paul Thomas Anderson–directed music video for “Daydreaming,” which gives the “Room 237” treatment (read: somewhere between dissertation and conspiracy theory) to the two artists’ collaboration. It’s almost like war has started in our own backyard.
With the current division between Black Lives Matter protests and law enforcement, director Craig Atkinson looks into the current state of policing in America with Do Not Resist.
The film opens with the actual on-the-scene footage of the violent protests in Ferguson, Missouri, in which the law enforcement uses complex training and heavy equipment to quell the unrest. The film observes the current and future directions of law enforcement using high-tech surveillance monitoring technology, military-grade equipment, terrorist conference training and even following a Swat raiding a home to execute a warrant.
Lrm had a phone interview last week to discuss current events and law enforcement technologies with director Craig Atkinson from his documentary Do Not Resist. We’ve covered various topics of law enforcement, his experience in the middle of the Ferguson riots and the future of policing.

It may surprise you to learn that Jeff Goldblum, star of Jurassic Park, Independence Day and more, has been performing a night club act with a band called The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, since the early 90s. But what may not surprise you is prettymuch everything you want a Jeff Goldblum Jazz night club performance to be. Goldblum has spent years cultivating an aura of the offbeat, the quirkily charming and the just kinda odd for years now, and if you were expecting Brundlefly to put on anything else when up on stage bantering with the audience you’re both crazy and in for a let down. Just a few days ago, Goldblum’s Facebook page uploaded a 90 minute performance, and it’s an hour and a half you’ll almost certainly enjoy if you’re as into Goldblum’s whole schtick as a lot of us are.

While they might not be as flashy and exciting as most other genres on the market, I’ve always had a soft spot for golfing games. They are my go to “rainy Sunday games”, which essentially boils down to games I play to completely unwind and relax, not to mention how I pass the time when it is actually raining outside. There’s a certain easygoing nature to golfing games; a good chunk of your time is spent playing on your own, and there’s a pretty simple learning curve, as most games tend to follow the same basic principles of golf. Line up your shot, hit the ball, rinse and repeat.
Still, I’ve often found that my favorite golf (and by extension, sports) games are the ones that have nailed-down and fine-tuned the controls, and the general feel of how you go about playing. You see, most sports...

Gotham Season 1, Episode 16: ‘The Blind Fortune Teller’
Written by Bruno Heller
Directed by Jeremy Hunt
Airs Mondays at 8pm Et on Fox
The season returns in stride with this week’s episode that is full of Batman mythology nods, with fun character moments that build momentum for the season’s subplots that are showing lots of promising development. At the center of the episode is the relationship of Gordon and Leslie, which is budding in interesting ways and is well integrated with the case of the week. The case of the week addresses two iconic Batman characters in one fell swoop, a bold attempt for the series that could’ve easily been a misstep. However, it is done efficiently enough that it will hold interest in the long run, as there are more stories that they could mine with the characters introduced here.

"Had you not known there was a member of the British royal family sitting there with his back to the opening, you'd have thought it was possibly a convention...

So tragic. Kim Pham, a beautiful 23-year-old university grad and inspirational blogger, was taken off life support and pronounced dead on Jan. 21 after being severely beaten outside of a nightclub three days prior.

Unbelievable. Los Angeles Times confirms that one young woman has been arrested in connection with the attack on Kim Pham, while the police continue to seek up to four more attackers. We sometimes find comedy in the least likely and or most unintentional places. But, that which is subtly satirical, or unintentionally humorous is often funnier than anything that is overtly playing for laughs. Some of the greatest examples of these types of comedy can be found in dance sequences within a variety of our favorite horror films. There is just something undeniably humorous about films that call for a dance breakdown amidst mass hysteria. Unfortunately, over the top dance numbers are not as prevalent in contemporary horror cinema as they were back in the heyday. So, to pay tribute to some of our favorites, here are our picks for the seven most awesomely bad dance sequences in eighties horror cinema. Stage Fright (1987) The Giant Owl Dance in Stagefright Easily one of the most bizarre dance sequences in film history, let alone horror film history, this garish segment plays out like...

Marvel Studios didn't take this past weekend off and continued to film scenes for Captain America: The Winter Soldier in Cleveland on the Memorial Shoreway. There are some promising locations along the highway to watch the filming and potentially take some great photos and/or video too. The section of the Shoreway that runs next to Detroit Ave. has the best spots to catch some action at establishments like Bounce Night Club, Whiskey Island, Edgewater Park and Battery Park Wine Bar to name a few. That's how a fan was able to take these great photos of the Winter Soldier over the weekend. This scene was described to The Daily SuperHero as the Winter Soldier is about to tear into the roof or the front windshield of the car he is on, Terminator-style. Stay tuned as The Daily SuperHero is your on location source for Captain America 2 in Cleveland.

A 'ballet who?' ballyhoo flares up over Portman's Oscar-winning Black Swan performance, just as the DVD comes out in the Us
The big story
Our journalistic colleagues in home news and business are used to juggling with conflicting sets of figures: crime statistics that arrive in the morning and are turned on their head by mid-afternoon; rival measures of inflation, house price indices and the like. We on the film desk don't feel quite so at home in these number-flinging fact fights, especially when half of the argument seems to be taking place in French. Our heads hurt. What's it to be? First of all we had Benjamin Millepied, Natalie Portman's choreographer partner for her Oscar-winning performance in the weird ballet film Black Swan, responding to accusations that she had taken undue credit for her dance double's work: "Honestly, 85% of that movie is Natalie." The double, according to Millepied,...

One of the main reasons why I prefer writing about movies to music is that it.s so much easier to keep track of everything going on. With only a few big budget films and several under the radar releases each week, one can reasonably stay up to speed with the majority without bypassing entire genres. Now and again though, a completed film will absolutely blindside me that I had no idea ever even went into production. The following story is one of those cases. Apparently, Ernest Borgnine and Mickey Rooney joined forces with Paul Sorvino, Rance Howard and Sally Kellerman awhile ago, and now the finished product is set to close the Phoenix Film Festival in April. According to The Toronto Star, the film is entitled Night Club, and it follows some lively nursing home patients who convince three college students to start the party every evening after the...

Upcoming film will see veteran actors star as retirement home roommates who turn their lounge into an illegal dive

Old-timers Borgnine & Rooney Team Up For Night Club
Hollywood old-timers Ernest Borgnine and Mickey Rooney have teamed up for a wacky new movie about a group of pensioners who turn their nursing home into a nightclub.
The two nonagenarians will play roommates and team up with former M*A*S*H star Sally Kellerman, Paul Sorvino and filmmaker Ron Howard's father Rance in Night Club, the first film by realtor-turned-moviemaker Larry Delrose's Italian American Films group.
The star-studded movie will also feature American Pie actress Natasha Lyonne and Clint Eastwood's Gran Turino neighbour Ahney Her.
The picture will close the upcoming Phoenix Film Festival in Arizona next month.
Delrose tells WENN, "The film presents the idea that one is never too young or too old to find inspiration and meaning in life.
"It is a unique saga about three USC (University of Southern California) students who get a job on the night shift at a nursing home. With the help of one of the home's residents, they improve things there in a very unusual way... There is music and lots of hugging and Italian singing!"
Through his new production company, Delrose hopes to make movies that portray Italian-Americans in a good light following decades of movies about the Mafia.
Rooney has hit the headlines recently after accusing his stepson Christopher Aber of elder abuse.
On Friday, a judge ruled the movie veteran's legal and financial affairs will remain under the permanent control of his lawyer, Michael Augustine, who was appointed temporary conservator in February after the Oscar-winner filed court papers claiming his stepson had been trying to convince him to sign over control of his assets.
The 90 year old alleged he feared for his safety and in a sworn declaration to the court, Augustine claimed he had found $400,000 (£250,000) missing from one of the star's bank accounts. A judge granted his request for a restraining order against Aber and his wife.
The restraining order against the Abers has not been extended, but the couple has reportedly agreed to stay away from Rooney.

Borgnine Hopes SAG Award Will Lead To More Work
Veteran movie star Ernest Borgnine is hoping his Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Lifetime Achievement Award will lead to more job offers.
The 94-year-old actor has continued working long after retirement age, recently appearing in Red with Bruce Willis and Dame Helen Mirren and an upcoming turn in Night Club opposite Sally Kellerman.
He is set to receive a trophy for his contribution to the industry at the upcoming SAG Awards on 30 January, and Borgnine hopes the honour will give him more work.
He tells the New York Post, "I'm 94. I'm lucky I know enough to show up there that day... Although this is like getting another Oscar, I'm still looking for work. I'm out soon in a picture called something like Night Club. Only one I remember is actually in it is me..."...
