The title 1000 years a slave made me believe that this was a look at the slave trade as a whole... That Dublín was set up as a trading port by the Vikings and sold Irish slaves (none from Africa) as well as thralls was missed. That the Romans carried out this trade even earlier. To look at the snapshot of history that was the African slave trade was disappointing. That it happed was barbaric, heartbreaking stuff... but white people were transported to the West Indies as slaves too.
