Fragments of the World is a beautiful piece of visual art. It's really difficult for a director to convey his own point view in a short film and be able to capture the attention of the viewer, telling a story at the same time. Well, Munefusa Shimohara was able to accomplish all these goals with this one film. Fragments of the World shows a sequence of the ugliest examples of reality, yet creating a colorful and stunning beauty that keeps the eye of the spectator awake and curious even when what we see is disturbing. The short stories narrated in this film are a perfectly painted portrait of the emotional and psychological emptiness that makes the characters desperately look for pleasure through S&M encounters with the girl whose perception of reality is so beautifully explored through the voice-over. Munefusa Shimohara proves himself to be an extremely talented director, able to create beautiful, original aesthetics by mastering the visual media!
