Chu’s “In the Heights” and tepid reception for Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” and continue to live in uncertainty about whether or not there will be a third “Mamma Mia!” film (please!). These days, it seems like every movie musical is anticipated with more than a healthy dose of fear, in case it struggles to recapture the magic of on-screen song-and-dance that was once so easy for this industry.
