This should pique the curiosity of those who frequently lament the absence of black faces in biblical tales adapted for the film and/or TV screens. Actor Obba Babatunde and Danny Green (“Mr. Sophistication”) co-directed this upcoming feature musical take on the story of the Gospel according to John the Apostle. Titled "Revival: The Experience," this film stars 2015 double Grammy nominee Mali Music (Best Urban Contemporary Album for his debut album, "Mali Is," and Best Gospel Performance/ Song, "I Believe") as Jesus Christ. Featuring a cast of names you'll instantly recognize, the project also sees Harry Lennix (also a...

Chicago – One of the more unique independent films that worked the festival circuit in 2012 and ’13 was the drama “Mr. Sophistication.” The main character was Ron Waters, a comedian described as “Richard Pryor’s protegé.” Actor Harry Lennix took on the character, breathing in both the drama of the show business story and the particular style of stand-up.
The film was recently released in downloadable and DVD formats. While on that festival circuit, Harry Lennix and the production crew – writer/director Danny Green and producers Jon E. Edwards and Albena Dodeva – stopped by Chicago, and HollywoodChicago.com spoke to them about the film.

Last year, when he was at the 48th annual Chicago International Film Festival for the showing of his film Mr. Sophistication, I spoke with Harry Lennix, and he told that post–production had just been completed on his film project, H4, directed by Paul Quinn, and he was very excited and proud of the film.A “re-imaging”: of Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 1 and Part II, set in modern day Los Angeles, the film is described as “the first Shakespeare adaptation to deal with contemporary African-American issues.” It tells the story of Henry’s unreliable son Hal's coming of age, as events compel him to increase power and responsibility, when he becomes the face of a new...

First some background... Several months ago or so, I did an interview for another site with actor Harry Lennix, who all of you know, and was seen this summer in Warner Bros' huge Superman reboot, Man of Steel. But the interview wasn't about that; it was instead about Harry's upcoming indie projects, like the fascinating Mr. Sophistication, directed by Danny Green, in which he plays a Richard Pryor-like self-destructive comedian attempting a comeback, and his all-black version of Shakespeare's Henry IV, called H4, which has just finished post-production. And both of those are on top of 6 other pictures he's completed that are scheduled to be released next year. ...

Harry Lennix and Ilfenesh Hadera have joined NBC/Sony TV’s drama pilot The Blacklist, which centers on Red (James Spader), the world’s most wanted criminal who mysteriously turns himself in and offers to give up everyone he has ever worked with. His only condition is he will only work with a newly minted FBI agent, Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), with whom he seemingly has no connection. Lennix plays Harold Cooper, the successful yet cynical Assistant Director of Counterterrorism at the FBI. Hadera, repped by Gersh, plays FBI Agent Jennifer Palmer, who is Elizabeth’s best friend. Lennix, repped by Innovative Artists and Brookside Artist Management, will next be seen in Man Of Steel and indie Mr. Sophistication, which he stars in produced. Toby Huss has been cast in AMC‘s drama pilot Halt & Catch Fire. Set in the early 1980s, it dramatizes the personal computing boom through the eyes of a visionary,...

Chicago – In its final days, the 48th Annual Chicago International Film Festival is poised to close with a glorious bang. Chicago native Robert Zemeckis (of “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump” fame) will return to the festival for the closing night screening of “Flight,” a thriller starring Denzel Washington. It’s Zemeckis’s first live-action feature since 2000’s “Cast Away.” Here are the highlights covering the remaining days of the festival, from October 18th to October 25th, 2012.
Zemeckis isn’t the only exciting guest scheduled to attend the festival in the days ahead. David O. Russell (“Three Kings,” “The Fighter”) will be on hand for the October 23rd screening of his widely celebrated dramedy, “The Silver Linings Playbook,” which has been singled out as a major awards season player, according to festival buzz. On the heels of his Guillermo del Toro-produced chiller, “The Orphanage,” filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona...

The Chicago International Film Festival, which runs from October 11-25, announced their official schedule yesterday; and among the dozens of films which will be presented at this year's festival, are several that will, no doubt, be of interest to readers at S & A. Director Danny Green's feature film Mr. Sophistication starring Harry Lennix, which we profiled over a year ago (Here) will be presented. The film deals with, as we said, "a comedian, Ron Waters, who is a Richard Pryor-type of entertainer who makes commentary about the world rather than one-liners. After a self-imposed exile from Hollywood, Ron is back." Green, Lennix and the producers of...

Ever since Clint Eastwood first showed interest in returning to acting with Robert Lorenz‘s Trouble With the Curve, the project has been red-hot with big-name casting buzz. There were the rumors (and ensuing confirmation) that Amy Adams would replace the previously-suspected Sandra Bullock as Eastwood‘s daughter. Then came the additions of Matthew Lillard (fantastic in The Descendants) and Joe Massingill. Meanwhile, the past couple of weeks, during which Justin Timberlake and John Goodman joined the cast, have brought even more developments of their own.
We learned, too, that the project has a quick turnaround in mind (as has become customary with Eastwood-Lorenz collaborations), as the theatrical release date has been officially set for September 28. And in a recent interview promoting the newly-released Safe House (read our review of that one here), Robert Patrick revealed that he has also been added to the Trouble With the Curve cast.
