It’s tough to critique a film like Netflix’s The Merry Gentlemen. This is Netflix’s take on the Hallmark-style holiday movie—a genre people eagerly consume during the festive season. Films like this are typically positive, warm, and unabashedly manipulative. In short, they go down like eggnog: light, comforting, and undeniably saccharine.

You can’t exactly tear The Merry Gentlemen to shreds because it’s not trying to compete with cinematic masterpieces like Oppenheimer. This movie is made for a specific audience: those who prefer their entertainment with minimal substance, filling a void during the holiday season.

‘Agatha All Along’ continued the MCU’s tradition of inclusion and representation, especially when it comes to queer representation as one of the main characters was Joe Locke’s Wiccan who is one of the most popular gay superheroes in the comics.

Not only did the show deal with the themes in good taste, but it was also fairly accurate as Wiccan’s and Hulkling’s relationship is a major part of his identity in the comics.

Billy Maximoff has a boyfriend in the show, called Eddie. While Eddie eventually did not turn out to be MCU’s Hulkling for reasons that we will explain later, fans still developed a lot of theories surrounding the two.

ComicBookMovie recently had an opportunity to talk to Miles Gutierrez-Riley who portrayed Eddie in the show. Riley expressed gratitude for the positive response to Eddie and Billy, saying he was touched by the support.

In Smile 2, Miles Gutierrez-Riley plays Joshua, some much-needed comic relief in a movie that takes audiences to a lot of very dark places.

We'll bring you our full interview about his role in the sequel soon; however, many of you will no doubt also recognise the actor for playing Eddie, the love interest of Joe Locke's Teen/William Kaplan/Billy Maximoff in Marvel Television's Agatha All Along.

Scarlet Witch’s part of the MCU keeps growing, as her original show WandaVision is getting another spinoff, this time focused on White Vision.

In the WandaVision finale, we saw S.W.O.R.D. create a new version of Vision called White Vision. Wanda’s Vision tries to help restore White Vision’s memories by using the Mind Stone from his own forehead, which sparks a deep discussion about what makes someone the “real” Vision.

At the end, White Vision remembers who he is and flies off without explanation, leaving his future uncertain. The upcoming show is expected to take place after the events of WandaVision.

Over the weekend, it was announced by Variety that a Star Wars film was bumped off the December 2026 release date for Ice Age 6. While we don't officially know what this film was, all sources seem to point out that this was the Rey Skywalker film setting up the return of Daisy Ridley to the franchise and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

In "My Old Ass," we first meet the movie's protagonist Elliott as her younger self played by Maisy Stella as she prepares to take hallucinogenic mushrooms with her friends; when she does, she "meets" her 39-year-old self played by Plaza (who recently stunned audiences on the Marvel series "Agatha All Along"). When Older Elliott dispenses some advice — including a strangely specific note to stay away from some boy named Chad — younger Elliot is suspicious at first but realizes that following it actually helps her solve some critical problems, so she starts seeking out her older counterpart to try and get through her younger years unscathed.

The Netflix drama based on Michael Connelly’s novels recorded 1.64 billion viewing minutes for the week of Oct. 14-20 (season three premiered Oct. 17), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s the third best weekly tally in the show’s history, behind season one’s second week in May 2022 and the debut of the back half of season two in August 2023.

The Lincoln Lawyer pushed the previous week’s No. 1 show, Love Is Blind, down one spot to second overall. The Netflix dating show had 1.21 billion minutes of viewing for the week. Outer Banks (1.1 billion) was the only other title to reach a billion minutes in the United States, though Bob’s Burgers (945 million) came close.

Agatha All Along has been one of the great TV hits this year. Disney Plus tends to release its new shows all year round but this one was extra special because it actually premiered during the Fall TV season and entertained us all in the run-up to Halloween. Marvel Television truly triumphed with this one, with showrunner Jac Schaeffer delivering a series that truly felt like a TV show (and not just a six-part movie).

The Marvel Cinematic Universe show was one of the titles responsible for driving 4.4 million new subscribers to the Disney Plus streaming service, performing extremely well on a lower budget. It also received widespread acclaim from fans and critics, with many regarding it among Marvel's three best shows yet (along with parent series WandaVision and Loki).

However, two weeks after the show's completion, fans have found a gripe to have with it. The good news is...

Aubrey Plaza has been waiting to wade into John Waters’ filmography for decades, ever since she first watched his 1994 satirical film “Serial Mom.”

During a visit alongside director Sean Price Williams to Kim’s Video at Alamo Drafthouse in Downtown Manhattan for its web series, Plaza credited Waters for inspiring her comedy taste in film.

“John Waters blew my mind with ‘Serial Mom,'” she said, adding that working in a video store while in high school was how she “learned about independent films.”

The “Megalopolis” actress added, “I was getting really into John Waters. I was getting really into ‘Waiting for Guffman’ and Christopher Guest movies. Agatha All Along is the latest release in the MCU. The show was different from anything Marvel has done before, as it focused on the magical and occult side of the universe, using lesser-known characters.

Despite some fans expecting review-bombing and boycotts due to the show’s Dei focus, this didn’t happen. The show proved that what really matters is the quality of the story, not all the outside noise.

Agatha All Along ended with strong reviews, good viewership, and was the cheapest Marvel production so far, mainly using practical sets and effects. This positive reception boosts its potential for the future.

The show also had the highest viewer retention rate of all MCU shows.

However, final ratings declare the clear winner as the Colin Farrell show’s final episode trumps the ratings of Kathryn Hahn’s show’s highest-rated episode. Red One arrives with a lot of bad press. Every movie Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes with the word “red” in them has been tracked for being a bloated mess. The superstar made Red Notice in 2021 with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, which was a lot more fun than many give it credit for. For all its faults, that film eventually found a sweet spot for genre audiences to enjoy.

Now, Johnson is back with Red One, which is so relentlessly lackluster and uninspired that I wondered if it was a cruel holiday prank meant to ruin our Christmas spirit. Red One is like his family film Tooth Fairy on steroids and off its Ritalin. The film has the same endless “knock the one-liners” out-of-the-park energy as the film has a laugh track.

Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, was on hand at D23 Brazil this weekend to provide a few - admittedly vague - updates about the McU's streaming future.

Asked whether we'll see more of Agatha Harkness after Agatha All Along's huge cliffhanger, Winderbaum started, "Jac Schaeffer has an incredible imagination and she had a vision for this show and for these characters that really was unique and allowed Kathryn Hahn to embody this character so significantly. I feel like, as an actress, she is going to forever be bonded to Agatha Harkness."

There have been some exciting reveals coming out of D23 Brazil this past weekend. Most notably, Marvel Studios would release new trailers for the upcoming movies in the MCU slate — Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. Captain America: Brave New World would give fans an even more extended look at Harrison Ford’s President Ross as he turns into the Red Hulk. And the Thunderbolts* trailer would show off more of the dynamic between the team as the new look featured a good chunk of a chase scene, where our anti-heroes are being pursued by mysterious military vehicles, and Bucky Barnes comes to their rescue. Deadline is now reporting that MCU head Kevin Feige has teased some additional information from this past weekend. He tells the Brazilian website Omelete that despite the news of the Blade reboot being taken off their calendar, the studio is still “committed” to the project.

Anything can happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We've said it plenty throughout the years, but the likelihood of anything happening has increased tenfold due to the limitless possibilities of the franchise's ongoing Multiverse Saga. And we do mean limitless, for the franchise has managed to find a way to bring in characters from before its own existence, merging worlds and crossing characters over to showcase the extent of the possibilities within the universes they encounter.

One thing that the MCU has always been able to do is bring some of the biggest and most beloved Marvel characters back from the dead. From the return of Loki in recent years (due to an alternate timeline's variation escaping from his time) to the subsequent returns of all the dusted characters in Avengers: Endgame, the MCU can make all kinds of magic happen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe – for better or worse – has been the backbone of the cinematic industry for the last 20 years. The superhero franchise’s enduring existence came from its ability to merge the futuristic with the folklore, and the impossible with the mundane. But mostly, it was Kevin Feige’s brilliant execution of a 10-year-long interconnected plan.

Now, fans want Feige to look for a way to return to those glory days of the MCU without sacrificing the past that has already been built. Bringing back the Og cast would certainly be one of the greatest stunts ever pulled but it could also backfire in the worst manner possible.

2025 is shaping up to be one heck of a year for Marvel Studios. Fresh off a triumphant comeback to its box-office glory days with the release of Deadpool and Wolverine and the return to the WandaVision-levels of hype on the small screen with Disney Plus series Agatha All Along, the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks set to continue entertaining its devoted legion of worldwide fans with some epic movies and TV shows next year, too.

Shortly after releasing a teaser for the Disney Plus installments we can expect next year, the studio made its presence felt on D23 Brazil to showcase some more upcoming titles. That included short appearances from various MCU titles' cast members, as well as two action-packed trailers that spotlight two upcoming projects in particular.

There was another trailer that fans were expecting that unfortunately didn't accompany these two, but there is no denying that the teasers...

Whatever happened to the Scarlet Witch? The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) has a devoted fanbase who've stayed stanning as she went from henchvillain to Avenger to a multiverse-unraveling big bad.

Death in superhero stories follows two rules, though: if there's no shot where the light leaves someone's eye, and no corpse is seen afterward, they aren't really dead. “Agatha All Along” has come and gone, and sadly, we must march ever forward. But you don’t have to do that without some good shows to watch. In fact, showrunner Jac Schaeffer has a few recommendations for you to watch that specifically inspired “Agatha.”

Marvel’s latest series, like its predecessor, is full of twists and turns and even a few jumps in time. It draws inspiration from both real life witchcraft and witches of pop culture.

Not all of these will be witchy, but according to Schaeffer, they’re definitely “touchstones for me and the kind of storytelling I do with these puzzle box shows.
