As Netflix looks to bolster its live event programming, the streamer is in talks with BuzzFeed Inc. to stream live episodes of “Hot Ones,” TheWrap has learned.
While the negotiations are in the early stages, the scenario being discussed would see Sean Evans host several live episodes of the popular YouTube talk series created specifically for Netflix.
The show, which currently streams on Hulu and Peacock, puts celebrities in the hot seat as they eat increasingly spicy wings while being interviewed by Evans. Notable celebrities who have appeared include Sydney Sweeney, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Conan O’Brien, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Lawrence, Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn, Margot Robbie and Ariana Grande.
Netflix and BuzzFeed declined to comment.
The discussions come as Netflix has expanded its line-up of live programming in recent years as part of an effort to scale its ad tier and continue to grow its overall viewership and subscriber base.

Netflix beat Wall Street expectations with strong second-quarter financial and subscriber growth (8 million subscriber adds for 277 million in total worldwide) reported on July 18. But management forecast slower growth ahead — setting expectations for lower paid net additions next quarter compared to the year prior — partly because it has already reaped gains from its successful password-sharing crackdown, launched about a year ago.
Meanwhile, co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters discussed the potential benefits of generative artificial intelligence during their earnings chat and also gave updates on Netflix’s advertising tier, which has been in place for 18 months and now accounts for 45 percent of all signups in markets with that tier.
So Wall Street analysts had much to ponder after the earnings update, especially following stock price target hikes from several heading into the report. In pre-market trading Friday, Netflix shares were little changed, trending up around 1 percent.

Jac Cron’s Chestnut is undoubtedly more instructive than it is enjoyable. Instructive because it brings to the fore many of the dominant features of Gen Z gloom––aimless drifting, technological alienation, suppression of creativity, hook-up culture––and organizes them within a modern campus-movie structure. Relatively dull because there is little feeling or intelligence in its wallowing; no wit or humor in its dialogue; and no respite from the exhausting falsity underlying its theme, namely that being turned down by someone you just met at a bar can, or should, be raised to the level of universal angst.
The plot, such as it is, revolves around the callow, twinkly-eyed Annie, who, in the week before leaving college, strikes up a friendship with servers Danny and Tyler. The trio meets nightly, mostly to exchange suggestive looks and banal what-are-you-drinking pleasantries in the hope that one of them will make a move.

It’s easy to see why a film like “Chestnut” might appeal to leading lady Natalia Dyer. This story of a young woman on the cusp of change isn’t too dissimilar from what’s happening in her own career right now. Just as Annie ponders the future, stuck in her uni town for the summer ahead of a new life in LA come fall, so too is Dyer contemplating a new world beyond “Stranger Things,” the Netflix behemoth that’s finally set to end later this year.
Judging by this indie and previous projects such as “Mountain Rest” and “Yes, God, Yes,” life after Hawkins will be far more grounded for the most part, yet in “Chestnut,” her character Annie still floats somewhat aimlessly. With little to do in the weeks leading up to her big move, Annie finds herself often drinking alone at a bar in the historic...

Netflix will stream a winner-take-all hot-dog-eating contest on Labor Day between reigning Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champ Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, the venerable hot dog chomper Chestnut unseated. The event is being called Chestnut Vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, and while they’ve settled on September 2, they’ll announced venue and time later on.
Chestnut’s the world record-holder for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and he has won the July 4 Coney Island event eight years in a row. If he’s Muhammad Ali of hot dog gorging, his Joe Frazier would be Kobayashi, who put the “sport” on the map in 2001 when he doubled the amount consumed by the past winner, his first of six Hot Dog Eating titles.

CBS has handed a straight-to-series order to Watson, from writer Craig Sweeny (Elementary), Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and CBS Studios, for the 2024-25 broadcast season. Morris Chestnut is set to play the title role and executive produce the medical drama inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries.
Last January, CBS ordered two drama pilots, Elsbeth starring Carrie Preston and Matlock starring Kathy Bates, as well as writers rooms for two medical drama projects, Watson and The Pact.
In anticipation of a series pickup, CBS and CBS Studios recently attached Chestnut as the lead and Larry Teng as director and executive producer of the first episode, paving the way to a formal greenlight.
The Pact, from the CBS/NAACP Production Venture, has been on a different timetable. It remains in development after attaching a supervising writer just before the start of the WGA strike and...

"You know you're a really nice person." "So are you." "No, I'm not." Utopia has revealed the official trailer for an indie love triangle drama titled Chestnut, the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming filmmaker Jac Cron. This premiered at the 2023 Frameline Film Festival already, and will be playing at Newfest and other fests this fall. A recent college graduate falls into a seductive social life and triangle of attraction with two new friends, party girl Tyler and the more reserved, thoughtful Danny. Frameline adds: "Named for a street in Philly’s Castro-equivalent neighborhood, Chestnut is an emotional drama steeped in sodium street lights and bar-sign neon, following a young woman through the complex, sexually charged liminal space between college and full adulthood." Chestnut stars Natalia Dyer, Rachel Keller, and Danny Ramirez. Looks like a sultry, honest portrait of lust, a simple coming-of-age tale about sexuality and finding yourself. // Continue Reading...
