No pun intended - and of course not everything can always be revealed. The movie starts off quite promising to say the least. The seemingly main female character is quite charming (and has won the posters and I reckon many viewers over no matter what). But after that, the movie takes a turn, introducing a lot of other characters and getting quite convoluted in the process.
There are worse things of course and the movie is decent overall. There is the revelation scene (no pun intended) towards the end - it works mostly. But it takes too much time and has not enough highlights (if you can call it that) like that one ... so you have decide for yourself if this is something you want to invest time in.

The concept is strong and the music flows beautifully. I do feel that the storyline could have went in a better direction but does play into some generation Z perspective. The actors could have been stronger not the most memorable . Cute love story .
Based on the same source material, this adaptation brings nothing to the table. Neither actors nor the camerawork are remarkable and if someone felt that 1999 movie was too old and we need smartphones to make it look modern, then this thing could have a right to exist. We have enough adaptations and this is not the one to pay your attention to.
Want a modern one? Cruel Intentions hits it pretty good. Want something more like the original story? The one with Malkovich from 1988 is sublime. Somehow you want it to be French? You're covered: the one from 1959 features Jeanne Moreau and Jean-Louis Trintignant. All of the above share the same name, be it in French or English and they share not only a story, but a critical reception over time. With a competition like this, this new show must be good, but sadly it's not even close to any of the movies above. Maybe we will see a nice TV show made out of the original story and we could definitely use one, but this is absolutely not the one.

Just don't waste your time with that movie. The acting is miserable. The storyline is miserable. Worst adaptation ever. I can't even find one single positive thing to say about it.

This is one of the worst book adaptations I've seen in a while.
The tone was all over the place and couldn't decide what it wanted to be.
It felt like the people who made this film has never dealt with a real teenagers in their lives or knew anything about the French Culture.
Go and watch Cruel Intentions instead if you want to see a more modern approach to this 1782 French novel adaptation.

Started out wrong with the meet cute that wasn't, and went downhill from there. None of the characters' actions made any sense in the context of the original story because this film doesn't even try to follow the original story. Big waste of time and I'm still not sure even what age group this is aimed at, since high schoolers would claim this whole thing as cringe.
People need to chill, it is clearly not intended to be a perfect adaptation of the book but it does match its main message.
Which is from my personal interpretation a representation of the malice and manipulation that society, pride, status, money and fame can bring into a relationship seen through the angle of youth and social media.
I must admit it's super cringy and sometimes weird but it's entertaining and intended for the younger crowd.
Yes there is LGBTQ+ characters, yes there is a polyamorous relationship so what ? You don't have to support it but it does not make it a terrible movie that deserves a 1 rating.
Definitely not a movie you watch at the cinema, but something you can watch at home without feeling like you wasted your time.

This is a French contemporary adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons and I am afraid that it isn't very good. There were a few bits here and there that I enjoyed...like the lead actress who plays Celene (gorgeous with her contrasting eye color), and the rap song that tells the story in a very modern way.
It was pretty wild that they would have a modern retelling and then have a theatrical production of another modern retelling of the same story within the film. It's almost as though they couldn't make up their mind about which way they wanted to go.
The contrived social media aspect was truly horrible, but the worst part of the film is the change in the ending. Did they think the modern climate couldn't handle the real deal?
I thought the film Cruel Intensions did a much better job telling the story in a modern and believable way...so I am going to recommend that film instead of this one.
Best part of the film was the French Atlantic coast setting, but you don't get to see a lot of it.

First of all, Don't take after this serie of bad ratings !!
I went to see this film having little to no expectations and I enjoyed it very much.
This is a modern-day Love and Betrayal film for teenagers but has an universal message.
I assume that people rated this film badly either because they hold some sort of hate or grudge against some of the actors? Not the case. You should check it out without comparing this film to the older Dangerous Liasons films!!
This film is a remake and a strong one who shines in its own right stop judging after the bad reviews and go see the movie.
If you ever had a first love, or even if you remained heartbroken by it it doesnt matter because this film has an universal message and that is about love.
It didnt dissapoint me and I have seen many many films in my life both very old and new :-)

Ok, I wasn't expecting anything. In the begging movie looked kind of cute, and sweet, but later to much drama and many cringe moments. Actors were hooot.
After watching this adaptation, based more in Cruel Intentions than in the actual novel, I'm entitled to write my own conspiracy theory about why Netflix keeps on releasing these outrageously bad flicks. Tall Girl, For Jojo and Marmaduke were not enough?
If Netflix really wants to survive, it should return to the pre-pandemic efforts to offer quality, but is doing the contrary with this adaptation. 0% in Rotten Tomatoes, for God's sake (compare that with the 94% of the original Dangerous Liaisons). The acting? Ella Pellegrini as Vanessa makes Cruel Intentions's Sarah Michelle Gellar look like Sarah Bernhardt. Overall, it's an agony to reach the end but if you're gonna criticize something you have to sacrifice yourself, and why? To tell you, people who hasn't still watch this, just skip it. It doesn't deserve a chance. Actually, I think Netflix is looking for the way of getting rid of its 9 billion debt... by filing for bankruptcy.

But I will give one star for the cute couple and the potential they would have, if there was a storyline, a director and some actual acting. Hopefully, even the 16yolds will cringe at this.

Here everything was trimmed on Fresh and young but forgot good actors.
The script is not well-thought-out and only people from 20 will be the target group.

Could it a movie br worse than this rubbish? Maybe yes but still this one is an absolute waste of time. You would gain nothing and regret not doing anything less awful with your time.

The french completely lost their edge, they want to be american, political. The whole film is a big pretentious american agenda pushing parody. Really sad how hard they are concentrating on being woke (american) rather than having their own identity.

I normally consider the source material when watching films (and am often disappointed by the remakes), but not having read the original French novel, I came in expecting this to be an easy to watch teen romance with fun visuals and a simple plotline. Very "10 Things I Hate About You" (obviously a better movie, but this is similar in the intended audience).
This met all of the expectations I had. Some of the characters subverted my expectations of how their storylines would play out. The dialogue was sometimes cringy, but also had a level of teenage simplicity where everything works out in the end. It wasn't trying to be more than it was.
I was entertained- is that not what film is all about? I liked the modern elements of rap (though the sound mixing made it often louder than the actual dialogue, so I toggled my sound bar frequently). The main actor is a decent rapper and for both of their first film debuts, they played their roles well. Not Oscar-worthy performances, but I was immersed at times.
My one dock is that since this movie is clearly aimed at teens, the outright sexuality and promiscuity was intense (at one point there's a literal orgy at a party, with high drug and alcohol usage highlighted). But also, French movies may be a bit more liberal in that way.
I had to skip some parts for personal preference, but if you're a parent, you may want to be mindful of who you watch this movie with.

I'm giving 1 star coz you can't give 0. It's pushing the 3some and lgbtq world. All about followers, drugs, etc. Pure nonsense! If you're planning to watch this, save yourself time. It's pure junk.

This adaptation is looking a lot like Cruel Intentions, except the two vicious people are not step-siblings, they're dating. But they are still making a bet at an elite prep school to deflower the new headmaster's daughter.
