Director Angela Schanelec creates an modern retelling of the Greek myth of Oedipus with beautiful camerawork, strange narrative choices and style throughout the film. Schanelec has made interesting art-house that I have enjoyed. While not every single film has wowed me, I always expect some interesting style or narrative choices regarding her work. "Music" is 100 percent going to have people who love or absolutely hate but I personally enjoyed it.
It's an interesting style about the story of Oedipus through an modern perspective. Throughout, there are some really good camerawork with some interesting choices of shot compositions and takes. The sound design and the uses of the music is well-used and felt appropriate to the movie's setting and structure of the narrative. Many of the performances were solid while some of the performances could have used some work, it was mostly solid from the direction that was provided.
There are some slow pacing which could have been improved. The dialogue that was written is purposefully trying to feel poetic and for the most part, it does work pretty well and there are some pretty good dialogue moments that are spoken.
Overall, it's 100 percent not for everyone since this is more for art-house audiences but I throughly enjoyed it.
