Tamzin Rafn based her screenplay on her experiences as a precocious teenager growing up in the small seaside town of Worthing.
When Emelia (Jessica Brown Findlay) goes to purchase liquor, the store clerk asked for proof that she was 18. Emelia merely showed her breasts and exclaimed: "There. Are these not the breasts of an 18 year old?" Findlay was 22 when she acted in this film.
The green convertible sports car Jonathan drives is a Triumph TR2, produced between 1953-1955, although the modern registration suggests that it may be a replica.
