Signature Entertainment re-release three of their Tesco-exclusive creature features in a special three pack which is now available at all good retailers. We’ve previously reviewed two of the three so I thought I’d repost those together here just in case you’re wondering whether this new collection is worth picking up (Hint: If you love cheesy monster movies and crazy killer-shark flicks it most definitely is!). So without further ado, here’s reviews of Snow Beast and Swamp Shark:

Tired of seeing New York and Los Angeles get destroyed on film? Wish disaster movies could find a different metropolis to reduce to rubble? This weekend’s Swamp Volcano unleashes a lava storm on Miami. And then a month from now you can take a double-dip trip to the black forest of fairy tales in two back-to-back Syfy original premieres: Black Forest and Gretl: Witch Hunter.

Hollywood’s renewed fascination with fractured takes on classic fairy tales sure came out of nowhere, didn’t it? Now it’s everywhere on big and small screens. February 25th will see Syfy getting in on the craze with a pair of unhappily ever afters making their world premieres as part of a Saturday night double feature.

Snow Beast, shot in 2011, and not to be confused with the 1977 TV movie Snowbeast which starred Bo Svenson and Yvette Mimieux, and is set in the same locale (a snowy hillside) and featuring almost exactly the same plot, stars Smallville‘s John Schneider as wildlife researcher Jim who, along with his team head up to the mountains every year to study the Canadian Lynx. Everyone's favourite SyFy monster thriller, Monsterwolf is coming to DVD via Screen Media Films. This werewolf themed feature debuted in late 2010 on this b-movie network and fans of the off-kilter style of films will enjoy a CGIed mythical creature making dog chow of a small American town. Jason London, as Yale, does his best to ignore the coming catastrophe by bedding wayward travellers and horror fans get a hold of Monsterwolf in the hairy flesh July 19th (DVD). This is the day b-movie sales spike and coincidentally, the day that Robert Picardo gets to play a sinister capitalist. Enjoy the sharp toothed trailer inside.

Premiering tomorrow, February 26 at 9Pm on Syfy as part of "Syfy Saturday Original Movies" is Jason Connery's (interview) After Dark Originals feature 51, starring Bruce Boxleitner (Tron: Legacy, "Babylon 5"), John Shea ("Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman," Mutant X) and Jason London (Dazed and Confused, MonsterWolf). The film chronicles what happens after political pressure from the American public forces the Air Force to decide to allow a select few well-known reporters limited access to the most secretive base on the planet: Area 51. A few days ago it was announced that two of the eight films slated for this weekend's After Dark Originals theatrical release were being held off until later in the year due to a deal with Syfy. By later in the year they must have meant February 26th, the date that 51 will premiere as one of Syfy's Saturday night originals. Oh, and it looks as if the title has been changed to Area 51, too.

SyFy Channel announced today their line-up of new and returning original series, along with their original movies for the 1st Quarter. Among them were some pretty cool items. Here are the highlights.

Being Human – Premieres Monday, January 17, at 9Pm (Et/Pt) – In Syfy’s new original series Being Human, leading normal lives is a lot harder than it looks for three paranormal roommates – vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer who played Dracula in Greg Nicotero’s short The United Monster Talent Agency), ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath) and werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington from Fanboys) – who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone. Syfy is prepping for an evening with a family of werewolf hunters and an ancient vengeful creature. In Monsterwolf , premiering Saturday, October 9, at 9Pm (Et/Pt), an oil company defies a court injunction against drilling on tribal land. Their blasting releases the Kachinawaya, a Native American animal spirit meant to protect Indian lands from invaders. This past weekend gave us Dinoshark (review here), the trailer for the Syfy bound Dinocroc vs. Supergator just went live, and we're all chomping at the bit for Sharktopus; but what else does Syfy have in store for viewers? Glad you asked. A new slate of Saturday night creature features has been announced, and I can tell you about a few others, too.

First up, let's just quote from Syfy's own press announcement (note that we've previously reported on a few of these):

Mega Piranha—Premieres Saturday, April 10, at 9Pm (Et/Pt)—An unusual alliance tries to stop a mutant strain of giant ferocious piranhas that have escaped from the Amazon and are eating their way to Florida. Stars Barry Williams, Tiffany, and Paul Logan.
